Location, location, location. If this park were anywhere else I'd give it a 4 or 5 and call it adequate for an overnight stop, nothing more. But, given that it is right on the edge of Bosque de Apache Wildlife Refuge, we are very happy it is there and has good working utilities and tons of space. You could easily park your 80 foot mega-rig in the wide open gravel lot. The owner is uber-friendly and will show up eventually; pay him when you see him or catch him at his house. He lets local field workers clean up in the showers in off hours; good for him. No wifi, no cable. I was desperate to watch NFL playoffs, so I drove to the Capitol Bar in nearby Socorro to get my fix. If you stay here, it should be for the outstanding birding. Enjoy. We camped at Bosque Birdwatchers RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

September 26- Adequate camp for what we needed for the night. Check in is whenever the owner shows up to meet you at the site you've chosen. Single stall men and women restroom. One of the spools laying around worked good as a platform to do some work on the side of my RV. We camped at Bosque Birdwatchers RV Park in a Motorhome.

Besides being a mostly open dirt/gravel parking lot, we got a warm welcome from the other campers, a very friendly chatty group. I think the owner fosters this environment, he was a card. It was quiet. Hook ups worked as expected. No picnic tables, but a few cable spools that you could roll over to your site. We camped at Bosque Birdwatchers RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Right outside the Bosque Del Apache National Wildlife Refuge. Dogs are not allowed in the refuge, but we noticed a trailhead prior to the refuge sign. There was no sign saying no-dogs so we were able to do a nice hike in the area.

This park is OPEN. No one will answer the telephone. It's about a 3 acre gravel lot. You just pull into an empty spot and the owner will come to you.All spots are pretty level. Bare minimum amenities with full hookups. It is right next door to Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge. We have stayed here many times. We camped at Bosque Birdwatchers RV Park in a Motorhome.

Numerous 50 gallon trash cans around park were full. But we used dumpster on way out. Thunder storm hit us at night but good drainage and no prblem in morning. Small campground so get reservations especially during crane festival. We camped at Bosque Birdwatchers RV Park in a Motorhome.

Bosque del Apache NWR for birds during winter migration. Not birders but love to visit to see them.

Convenient park for going to the wildlife reserve...it's the only park! Basic full hookups of electric, water, and sewer. No TV or wifi. Didn't use the restrooms, so can't comment or rate them. The owner was great, though he may be selling the place soon. Could be a good investment for someone looking for one! We would stay there again. We camped at Bosque Birdwatchers RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

As others have mentioned, try the green chile burgers at The Buckhead and The Owl restaurants in San Antonio. We liked the grilled taste of the burger at The Owl best.

Bosque del Apache NWR is not to be missed! If the 3hour park tour is offered, take it! The volunteers there are friendly and knowledgeable.

Park is straight gravel, no trees, no picnic tables, no fire pits, no amenities other than a bath house. Owner is friendly, but other than at check in out of sight.

Try to park facing north, then the afternoon shade is on your door side. We camped at Bosque Birdwatchers RV Park in a Motorhome.

This bare-bones park's claims to fame are the nearby Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge and in-town restaurants featuring green chile cheeseburgers. Its also a couple hours' drive to the Very Large Array of radio telescopes in the New Mexico desert. The Refuge is a birdwatcher's winter paradise with a Festival of the Cranes annually the week before Thanksgiving. The RV Park has full hookups and little else; the sites aren't even numbered. The picnic tables are old cable spools. We camped at Bosque Birdwatchers RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The Buckhorn Tavern advertises itself as "#7 in America". Its very spicy green chile cheesburger once beat Bobby Flay's version in a Food Channel throwdown. The Owl Bar & Cafe across the street has a similar product it claims was a favorite of "prospectors" during World War II (actually scientists and engineers working on the world's first atomic bomb at the nearby Trinity Site). Beers have names such as "Isotope" and "Alien". The timid may order the green chile on the side.

This is a great little park to stay while you visit the Basque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge. It's basically a gravel lot with big spaces and 30 amp service. We had two 30 amp plugs on our pedestal and one kept dying on us so we switched to other and everything was fine. Bathrooms adequate. Shower's $2.00. Owner very friendly and aims to please. Located on the edge of the refuge. Would definitely stay here again if visiting the refuge. The picnic table was a cable spool. We camped at Bosque Birdwatchers RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

If here don't forget to have a chili hamburger from Buckhorn's and the Owl Cafe. Buckhorn's had a burger throw down with Bobby Flay. The Owl has a lot of history of it's own. We thought both great.

A short distance from the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, this campground may seem a little funky, but it is convenient, and the owner is great. If you need help, he's your guy. The area is gravel with adjacent sites but plenty of room. We stay there whenever we're in the area. We camped at Bosque Birdwatchers RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Just down the rode from Bosque Del Apache NWR. Pretty much by gravel lot. Sites spaced apart okay. 30 amp service only. Price reflects type of park - low end. Would stay again. Train horns up into nighttime. We camped at Bosque Birdwatchers RV Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

There are three great things about this park: Location, Location, Location. Actually, I should add that the owner is also very nice. The only reason that I can come up with to stay at this park is the proximity to Basque del Apache Wildlife Refuge - a wonderful refuge. This park is as close as you can can get to the refuge without being inside, and it is pretty much the only game in town. The park is basic with the only amenity being bathrooms. We had originally planned on visiting during the Crane Festival, but it was full, as was everything else in the area, so we visited immediately after the Festival. The park has only 30 amp service and it is very weak. Apparently during the festival folks had issue with the power when the park was full. When we hooked up our voltage was very low, but acceptable. We had very good Verizon signal and data. No problem with satellite since there are few trees. The park is gravel and when we visited there were high winds with dust - not the parks fault but a reality. This is not a destination park but an OK place to stay for a few days while visiting the refuge. We camped at Bosque Birdwatchers RV Park in a Motorhome.

We have stayed here several times because it is convenient to the wildlife refuge and is often on our traveling route. It's a funky place, behind a family home; an open, gravel area with hookups but no frills. The refuge has great hiking, and the burgers in San Antonio are hard to beat. We will stay there again when in the area. We camped at Bosque Birdwatchers RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

No frills park very close to the Bosque del Apache, where we were attending the Festival of Cranes. No Internet, but our MiFi worked very well. Manager was very helpful and friendly. Restroom was clean and had a portable heater (much needed, as it snowed while we were there). No picnic tables, but large manufacturing spools for tables; it was too cold to sit outside anyway. Railroad very close with train whistles day and night, though not every night. Nice views of rural area, but rigs very close together so essentially no view to either side. We stayed a week and would return when we want to visit the Bosque again. We camped at Bosque Birdwatchers RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Really just a gravel lot in back of a home. They have 30 and 50 amp sites, but they are not marked and we set up at a 30 before we discovered the mistake. Friendly, but large, intrusive dog from neighbors stalked our dog and made walking difficult. Closest park to Bosque. We camped at Bosque Birdwatchers RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
