Back in sites are short and not level at all. Quiet park. Pretty. 10 miles off the interstate. If a site is available, it is only for one night at a time, but still redeemable by anyone for the next night. Make reservations or you'll be moving. Verizon cell signal is 1 bar at 1x....if your lucky. Quiet, pretty, peaceful. Make reservations. A10, A14 looked level enough. A15, A17 are very sloped. A15 was shorter than stated. We camped at Santa Rosa Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

An older campground that appeared to be a KOA at one time. Check-in process was easy and guy at desk was very friendly. Called and made a reservation about 2 weeks in advance. They did not require a deposit to hold the site. Placed on site 14, a pull through which was mostly dirt with some gravel. Roads are a combination of dirt and gravel which means it is very dusty when driving or walking. Entire campground could use new gravel. Restroom in center of the campground was old and in fair condition. My site was right next to the WiFi antenna but the signal dropped in and out. Free cable with a lot of channels however, the local channels were not clear (I think this is a cable company problem rather than a campground problem). Restaurant on site. I did not eat there but the food smell in the campground office smelled wonderful. We camped at Santa Rosa Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

It appears that a lot of money has been put into developing this park, but it's certainly not being used to its potential. The road leading to Rocky Point Campground is windy. The website stated first come/first serve, but that wasn't the case when we were there in late March. If you arrive and a site is open for that particular night, you can have it that night, but you have to move along or change sites the following day if that site is reserved for the next night. So, not truly first come/first serve. Site numbers are located on the picnic table in Loop A. Loop A was the only open loop for the one night we were there. The camp host was awesome! Some sites have 30 amp and some have 50 amp electric, water is available from spigots located throughout the park, and there is a dump station. There is a covered picnic table with grill at each site; however, no fires were allowed during the time we were there. Interior roads are asphalt, as are sites. We thought the road in loop A was a bit narrow for our 40' motor home, but we managed. Some sites are more level than others. Verizon data and cell service were excellent, but we do have a booster. There was no hot water in the men's shower room. The sign stating "hot water heater not functioning" appeared to have been there quite a while. Loop B wasn't open during the time we were there, but is dry camping. Maybe that is the loop that is intended to be first come/first serve? Those sites have a covered picnic table with grill. There are a variety of sites, short/long, pull-through/backin, level/unlevel. There is another camping area that was closed too. We wouldn't stay here again. We camped at Santa Rosa Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Very quiet, a few miles off I-40. Friendly host welcomed us. All sites have electrical in first loop, but some lack water. Check before parking. Nice hiking trail around lake. Very reasonable, like all of NM parks. Perfect for an overnight stop while traveling I-40. We camped at Santa Rosa Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Stayed here over New Years holiday. Had stayed at the exact same site here almost 20 years ago and enjoyed it just as much this time. Nice view, good facilities. Got very cold but that's January. No sewer. Some sites have water, all have electric. No sewer. We camped at Santa Rosa Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

The campground was almost empty our entire visit. We pulled into a site that required a reservation for more that one night. Since we were set up & leveled I asked the Camp Host & Ranger if we could stay another night - but we were told by both that we would have to move & make the reservation online to stay in a reserved spot for more than one night! DUMB rule when the place was deserted during off-season. Other than that, the park was awesome and the facilities were immaculate. We camped at Santa Rosa Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This park was fine for a day or two, but I was not overly impressed. I saw the park ranger go through the campground only once. Lots are spacious and offer some shade. Site surface is gravel and features a fire ring and picnic table. Skunks are around. I saw one getting into an another camper's outside trash that was not put away. I don't intend on coming back to this campground. We camped at Santa Rosa Lake State Park in a Tent Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Beautiful clean park. We stayed one night passing through. Bathrooms were clean for the most part (kids went in later and trashed them out), but they were clean when we arrived. Sites were spacious, and one thing we love about NM state parks are the roofs over the picnic tables. It helps when its 103 out. We would definitely stop here again. I would have given it a 10, but they have ants all over the place. We sprayed the bottom of our tent to keep them from crawling all over it. Within seconds they were all over our dog's food dish. We would stay here again, ants and all, as its a beautiful place with the lake off in the distance from our site. We camped at Santa Rosa Lake State Park in a Tent.

Only one grocery store in town--its a Mom & Pop and on the expensive side. The Blue Hole is not far away and worth going to see. There is also an antique auto museum, and some Route 66 things to see.

No host on duty, but park and facilities were clean. There is construction throughout the loop A with electrical, but it's to upgrade to 50 amp, so great. Most sites back in, currently no reservations due to construction so right now ( June 2017) it's first come first serve basis. That will change I'm sure when they get project done ( looks like 1/2 approx. To me). Nice, quiet,. Convenient for motorhome with tow. Had to unhook of course. Would stay again. Good rate, but no water/ sewer at sites. We camped at Santa Rosa Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

This is a clean and quiet park, but as is typical of NM state parks, the layout and sites are a bit outdated. It took us a solid hour to get our triple-slideout 32ft travel trailer backed into A5 with leveling blocks because of the tree, rear charcoal grill, and wooden sideposts to maintain a dinette view of something other than the tree while having enough width for our opposing slideouts. One slideout is 1 inch from a side pole and the other is slightly touching the juniper on the other side.

Many sites are on the short side and many have front-to-back slope issues for longer trailers.

The host was very kind and helpful and I always saw him out picking up dog poop from empty sites. Verizon signal varies from site to site. In A5 we had a somewhat useable 3G signal which was a good 4G signal on our booster.

Sites A2, A4, A5, and A7 in the Rocky Point Electric loop have 50 amps, the rest in the loop have 30. The sites tending towards the southeastern half of the loop have water, the others do not, though there is a pullover in the loop to fill your tank. Only a few sites in this loop have a lake view. We camped at Santa Rosa Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.

There are several camping loops in this park, but only a few have electricity. About half of those also have water. Sites are well-spaced and good sized for the most part. A couple of the sites are a bit on the short side, however. Dish TV worked well here as did AT&T cell phone and Verizon MiFi. Most sites have covered picnic tables and grills. We will consider staying here again if we are in the area. We camped at Santa Rosa Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We booked this online for one night while traveling through the area and were pleased with the park. We booked a pull through site that was easy to get into and was long enough for our 5th wheel and our truck to park. They had a covered picnic table and BBQ grill available, but it was too hot to even consider going outside! There were also a lot of flies around. We thought the site would be 30 amp but discovered that it had adequate 50 amp service. There is water, but there was no sewer. There was a nice view of the lake from the site, but we did not drive down to it. The park is approx eight miles from town and was very quiet. We stayed in loop Rocky Point Electric, space A7. We camped at Santa Rosa Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We visited The Blue Hole and found it interesting. It is small and was very crowded. There were a line of kids waiting their turn to jump in and having a great time. The water is very blue and pretty! Glad we only planned to go and see it and not stay. It still cost us to park, but it was for charity so I can't complain!

This was a wonderful State Park. I would go back late in the fall or in the spring. It was too hot for us when we visited. The lake is beautiful. The campground was full but almost everyone left in the morning.

This campground is well worth the cost an excellent value. We camped at Santa Rosa Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We were here in January when snow was on the ground. Roads and sites were kept clear in the Rocky Point A Loop. There was power at every site but water was at a central fill point. Camp host on site. Restrooms and showers were clean; we were one of three campers in park, including host.

Sites have covered picnic tables.

We were treated to a beautiful sunset view of the lake. Campground is about 20 minutes from town. Nice road to campground. We camped at Santa Rosa Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We enjoyed our 2 night stay at Santa Rosa Lake State Park. The park is quite beautiful in a peaceful setting. Campsites are fairly well spaced apart, and, though the park was full following 4th of July, the other campers quieted down "on time".

Though the flush toilets in the bathhouses were clean, the showers were exceptionally dirty. Despite wearing flip-flops and taking precautions not to touch walls or floors, we still managed to picked up a nasty case of body ringworm (fungus). I am giving the cleanliness a "bad" rating for this reason. There was visible mold on the shower curtains and debris left behind by previous bathers (hair clumps on floors and walls).

FYI: The showers are communal with little privacy. One changing room serves two showers.

We arrived in the dark after a pretty good rainstorm and it was quite buggy (mosquitoes, knats and lots of June bugs). Be sure to keep your screens closed and bring bug spray!

Our site was fairly level, with water and electric hookups. It had a covered picnic table area and fire pit and there were some bushes but no shade trees. The weather during our stay was monsoonal and the skies were always changing from bits of blue to silvery gray. Just beautiful!

We didn't have any luck fishing, but completely enjoyed the peace and quiet it afforded. The pit toilets for the day camp areas were very clean.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would return again, but next time we will use our own trailer shower! We camped at Santa Rosa Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The Blue Hole is worth a visit. Located in the town of Santa Rosa, it is a tourist attraction for which they do charge a parking fee. Bring a bathing suit and towel to take a dip from walk in stairs or jump in from the rocks above. Arrive early to beat the crowds!

Otherwise the small town of Santa Rosa is quiet with a lot of businesses boarded up and closed. You'll find more activity the closer you are to Interstate 40.
