No grass, all gravel sites and roads. Some have trees, most don't. Cable at all sites, no antenna TV. On Historic Route 66, in town. No laundry, but a reasonable one about 1/2 mile away. WiFi is the real negative....works fine, but NOT available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. or from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. Real bummer. We camped at Cactus RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Talk about turning a sows ear into a silk purse this "campground" is an old Route 66 Motel which is no longer a motel but the camping facilities have been built around the motel to the extent that one unit has been "removed" to allow a drive through circuit. The lady who met us was very helpful and the campground it self is very tidy. Services are all good and we were lucky to get one of the sites with some shade (95F/35C day). Sites are close together but as 99% of campers are overnighters passing through this is not a biggy. We camped at Cactus RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

It's a former motor hotel that has been closed for probably 25 years. The old rooms and garages are historical landmarks. I-40 closed this hotel like hundreds of other motels along the main streets interstates bypassed. You need a self contained RV for showers/bathroom. The electrical, water and sewers were in great shape and level. The woman on duty was very helpful in directing me to set up. It's a good price for an overnight stay. I had no issues with road noise or dogs barking. We camped at Cactus RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

It was just an overnight stay but I would recommend Del's restaurant, a very short walk down main street. It's been around 60 years and the service and food was very good. I recommend the green chili stew. Outstanding! I would like to visit some of the historical sites down old Hiway 66 in this town next time I drive through.

This was our third stay at this park. This stay, as well as the first two, was pleasant, as we usually stop here on our way east or west, depending on the season.

We return here for a variety of reasons. It's clean, the management is a no-nonsense, but a very friendly group. If you stay here, it will be a nice, quiet stay without any loud or obnoxious campers in the park. The owners are slowly upgrading their facilities and expanding their park. It's quiet and well-lighted.

WiFi is excellent. We did not use any other amenities because we are self-contained and don't need them. AT&T is worthless in this park, and Verizon is OK, which is why we used their WiFi.

It's easy off/easy on I-40, regardless of which direction you're traveling. We hit the Pilot/Flying J fuel stop on our way in, so we get off at that exit, which is on the east side of town, closer to Cactus RV Park than from the west side of town.

Most of the eateries, fast food in particular, are on the west side.

We highly recommend this park. We camped at Cactus RV Park in a Motorhome.

This tidy park is located on the site of a historic motor hotel which is still standing and provides a nostalgic atmosphere for your stay in Tucumcari. The town has declined in size and it is a wee bit sad to see the boarded up buildings so close to the main part of town. A couple of good restaurants within walking distance. (Especially Dell's) We camped at Cactus RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a bare bones park in a less than desirable part of town. Dogs bark all night, cars speeding down Rte 66, and terrible Wi-Fi. Owner's will show you to your site but don't expect anything else from them. Even a sign in their "office" that says "don't ask questions". Real nice way to treat your guests. We camped at Cactus RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a nice campground for one or two nights to see the Old Route 66 main street. They have some nice long pull thru sites that allow big rigs to stay hooked up. They have 50 Amp FHU available. The park is older but clean and tidy. ATT & Verizon work well. Plenty of clear sky for satellite set up. No restrooms or laundry. No train or Hwy noise. Free WiFi works OK but is turned off after 10PM and on from AM 7-10 then off during the day until 3PM. Internal roads are gravel as are pads. Sites are well spaced. Old Motel Facade is quiet nice and not an eyesore even has individual garages with each room (Never seen that before). Del's and the Chinese were both very good. Will stay again. We camped at Cactus RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Owners very accommodating...will set you up with a space conducive to satellite it you want, or provide cable service.
Location outstanding. Within walking distance to a Lowes Grocery Store and several diners.
Several murals were on many of the businesses relating to Route 66.

Owners make it very clear on their website this is a no frills campground.

Biggest assets are easy in and out off the freeway, without the freeway noise, and nice level sites. We camped at Cactus RV Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed here in a 42' FifthWheel and did not unhook. Very nice area, level site, plenty of room for slides, big rig friendly, monitor showed good electric, wifi, cable, and full hook up. Behind the office area and connecting structures was a very large RV park. We were pleasantly surprised. Staff are informative. Great place for an overnight. We camped at Cactus RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

I realize the options in Tucumcari are slim but this place is near the bottom of the barrel. It's redeeming feature is it is cheap. IF you have Passport America. There is no way this place is worth it's full price.

When you first pull in you are faced with a dilapidated early '50s motor inn. In near complete disrepair with a hole punched in the building directly in front of you. The office is run down and loaded with hand made signs to direct you to the office. Once they unlock the door to let you in you are hit with the smell of curry. The woman is very helpful and courteous. Once checked in she will walk you to your site. They aren't numbered.

Our site's cable TV was provided by a coax cable buried in the ground with barely enough length to reach our coach. The sites are all gravel with a few small trees. No dumpster for trash. There was a handmade sign above a plastic trash can instead. We camped at Cactus RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a real gem on Route 66. An old motel with brick walls made in to a RV Park. Looks like a facade but it is the real old motel you see. Newer utilities worked fine except for a low flow of water. One very strange thing was that the free and working WiFi only was open a few hours in the morning and a few hours in the evening because of heat (?). Never heard that before. Staff excellent, easy in and out, great for a overnight stay. VERY quiet at night. We camped at Cactus RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

A few restaurants around the corner. Old diners style. Just to walk on Route 66 is kind of fantastic. Small motels with ColorTV signs etc. I timepiece and a bit of America that most likely has its years counted for, so go there while you can!

Easy access off freeway. The office is very run down looking and the strip of old motel buildings can give you pause when you first arrive, however, the office staff was very accommodating and the site we were given off to the back side of the office was spacious and level. All of the gravel looked to have been recently raked and there wasn't one pot hole in site. The wifi worked well but they only have it on for a couple of hours in the morning and evening - odd. We paid the PA rate which was a good value as not a lot of choices in this area. I wouldn't likely stay here for the full rate as there are no amenities at all as others have mentioned. Note there are a lot of stickers in the far back lot so walk your dogs on the side or along the street. We camped at Cactus RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

If you are staying here on a Sunday, be aware that most of the restaurants and many stores are not open on Sundays or they close at 2 PM so plan accordingly for meals or shopping. THere is a grocery store several blocks away and some interesting nostalgia to take in along Route 66. Many of the buildings are closed or run down but some are still open.
