Tired. Picked a Tucumcari as overnight. 2 choices. Passport Parks. One was full.
Cactus was empty. Almost twice the price as other park with PA ?... but, quiet, clean , ez in/out, FHU 50,
Long enough for my 40’ fiver and truck without unhooking.
I’m not tired anymore. One night-moving on. Fine for our needs. We camped at Cactus RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We found it clean quite and easy in/out all pull though sites. The person helps you pull in; she likes to have the RVs with their slideouts opposite each other. Only a few sites right on old route 66 at an old moto lodge. Would stop there again. We camped at Cactus RV Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Pretty basic desert RV park. All gravel, but not really dusty. All the sites with really nice shade were taken, but we did have one tree that provided some shade for a while. Sites are all level and hookups worked well. Wi-fi was on limited hours, but worked well during those times. I'd stay again if in the area. We camped at Cactus RV Park in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

It is truly no frills but fairly organized. Looks to be an old motel as there are strips of old run down buildings with door with numbers on them. Was told they rent them out to permanent locals but saw no cars in front of them. The park has good elec/w/s. Fairly busy park. I found it odd that full price is $42.00, Good Sams, Veterans, AAA etc usually get 10% off, but they give them a $28.00 rate. PA was given $25.00 rate, Plus tax, plus $3 for using CC. There is no amenities, pool, bathrooms, showers. No children. Spaces are nice and wide and we were in a long pull through. We could have fit car beside RV but had plenty of room behind. We would return if we had to stay in this town as they are the lowest. We camped at Cactus RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a dinosaur museum in town but not much else. Small, quiet town. Get your shopping done before you get here. There isn't even a Walmart.

Appears to be in the parking area for a decaying motel. Spaces very close. Staff was friendly and escorted us to our site. If the town was more interesting, we would probably stayed another night. However, Tucumcari appears to be a dying town. Cable TV provided, including coax. Our slide had to fit between 2 trees, as a result the power pole was too far away for built in power cable to reach, we used heavy duty extension cord. We camped at Cactus RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Tucumcari appears to be falling into decay since the Interstate bypasses the original Route 66. However, if you enjoy looking at or photographing old motels and decaying buildings, the town is interesting for a couple of hours. Gas/fuel about a mile south of CG, near the Interstate.

Descent place to spend the night. PA discount wasn't much as they give a "discount" for just about everything. Neat and clean. Got a little attitude when I called to make the reservation, but they were very nice once we arrived. They escorted us to our site which was right in front - adjacent to the road. This was somewhat strange since the park was almost empty - and when the only two other RVs came in, they were put immediately to either side of us. Couldn't you space us out just a bit since there were so many empty sites? Power was just ok, breaker kept tripping so I plugged in next door and asked them to take a look. They did promptly, and he had me move my plug back to our site so it didn't "mess them up". Again, couldn't you have put the next guy in one of the many open spots and not right next to us? Anyway, we plugged back in and it only tripped three or four times the rest of the two-day stay. The heat pump was on most of the night as it was chilly, so the road noise didn't bother us much. For an over-nighter, it's sufficient. The layout of the front part is somewhat strange. Our site didn't allow for our toad behind the RV as that was access to the site next to us. We parked adjacent to the rig. We camped at Cactus RV Park in a Motorhome.

Not much to do in the town - it's pretty depressing. Would have liked to see it in its "Route 66" days.

Their website says it all: no amenities. No laundry, or showers, or recreation or store. Only offering low rates. It is in the parking of a long-abandoned motor court on old Route 66. We camped at Cactus RV Park in a Motorhome.

The ratings are based on how well a park delivers what they advertise. This park states up front they are a no frills, clean park and they are. The grounds are well maintained, pea gravel mostly level with full hookup. No restrooms, showers, laundry and they advertise as an overnight facility. The staff asks you tons of questions with regard to your needs to include satellite antenna and then personally escort your to a site matching your needs. 100% pull-through sites. Price included retired military and cash discounts. We camped at Cactus RV Park in a Motorhome.

Route 66 through Tucumcari is kind of depressing. A few attempts at renovation scattered amongst derelict buildings. That said, this park delivers high value if you want a place to park with hook-ups. Its obvious the owners care about keeping it a decent place to stay. You can have trees or not, all utilities worked as they're supposed to, sites are level and easily accessible. Ignore the surroundings and you've got a deal. Overall Rating:

First Impression: Web site says "no frills" and they mean it. Office building looks trashy but inside was clean. Safety: No night lighting but no concerns. Access: We took exit 333 off I-40, north to Tucumcari Blvd, turn left. CG is across from Tractor Supply. Municipal road in good condition, good signage but a tree is in the way, Garmin GPS is accurate. Office: Used for sign-in only. No store. Credit cards accepted. Online reservations not available. Good Sam discount. Facilities: No pool, spa, fitness room or rec center. No laundry room, restrooms or showers. No propane sales, playground, or off-leash dog run. Campground: Not in a flood plain. No storm shelter available. Lightly wooded. Interior roads are wide dirt/gravel in good condition with gentle turns and no overhead obstacles. Big rig and long coach friendly. Prevosts shouldn't have problems. No tent area, yurts, or cabins. Sites are all generous, level, dirt/gravel, all pull-through, minimal desert landscaping. Pedestals at middle of site with electric 20/30/50; no meters. High water pressure BUT TASTES ACRID - drinking not recommended. Sewer pipe is 4" threaded, at ground level. No patios; no picnic tables. Fires not permitted; no fire rings. Fair satellite views. Free cable TV. Free Wi-Fi but poor coverage away from the office building. Verizon phone at 4 bars; 4G at 3 bars. No recycle bins. Noise: Distant railroad, no aircraft or interstate noise but local traffic is notable. Bug Report (mid October): biting, black mosquitoes - a serious problem. Runners: CG roads marginal for running. Yoga: mat would have to go on the dirt/gravel. Conclusion: Score 5-Acceptable. Okay for a night or two. We camped at Cactus RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Sadly, Tucumcari, NM, is a dying, tired, little town. Boarded businesses, abandoned local hotels. Fast food next to interstate exits: Pizza Hut, Sonic, McDonalds. Now it's a stop along the interstate, multiple exits with gas/diesel, fast food, and a convenience store or two. Residential roads are tattered and rutted with a lot of derelict houses.

This is our third stay at this park. A great place to pull off the road and spend a comfortable night for a fair price. The folks that operate the park are especially nice. Each time I've called on the day of arrival and a site was reserved for me. The RV park is built around an old Route 66 tourist court. It brings back lots of nostalgia of that era of traveling. Always there will be several large motor homes and 5th wheels, most being just over nighters. Pull throughs are gravel with a little grass. Sites are pretty close together, but no noise. Not a fancy park but safe and comfortable, and you can't beat the price and ease of getting into and out of. We camped at Cactus RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
