This park has been upgraded since the last time(15 yrs)I was here. Newer looking shower house, and playground for kids. Sites are level, nice size, mixed open and shady, mostly shaded. No fire rings I would think due to droughty summer, but folks with fire bowl were flame on. I use an LP faux fire for the fun of it,and no smoke. - Kennest

We spent a week here while visiting friends and family on Long Island. It is a rustic campground with very few amenities in a lovely wooded setting. There were many seasonal RVers here, though not having a sewer hook-up must be inconvenient! Our site was asphalt, but we had a very hard time getting our RV level. There is no wifi or cable; very poor TV reception. The restrooms were clean, but there are no laundry facilities. We would probably return for a one-week stay. - Lyn T
Jul 2015 - $53.00
This was a decent campground, with a number of permanent residents with campers that looked quite run down. A few conversations with other campers indicated that satellite reception is only possible with carryout dishes, due to trees close to most of the sites. There are garbage barrels located throughout the park that are emptied every morning. Our site was rather short, and even with our 30' 5er back as far as we could go without leaving the pavement there was no room for our tow vehicle. The cost of camping here is greatly increased for out of towners, as seems to be the case at every county owned park on Long Island. I guess they don't want NYC people to consume all the spaces that the locals taxes pay for.
Overall, this is a good choice for anyone wanting to visit NYC, as the train can take you into Manhattan to Penn Station cheaply. There you can access the subway to anywhere in the city. - Thorfinn
Sep 2015 - $54.00
This is a county run RV park between Long Beach and Point Lookout. It is convient to the Long Island RR to catch the train to Penn Station, the center of New York City. Sites are back-in only with full hookups. There are no amenities, no wi-fi or cable, but your antenna can get local TV. They have a picnic table, no fire pit but you can use your own, wood burning or propane. The sites are spaceous but there is no shade. It boarders sand dunes that provide access to the ocean, about a 1/4 mile or so. - Michael Kibler
Sep 2010 - $49.00
We enjoyed our stay there, very good location for doing, Gold coast, Manhattan, Montauk Light, Hamptons, and to go for a nice walk on the beach. I can not imagine being hear during the summer. It has to be chaotic; there are 500 Beach cabanas right next door and lots of beach clubs in the immediate area. - rontrem
Jul 2010 - $49.00
The resident camper was amazing and I would give her a 10! It was a really nice campground with large sites, also a 10. However, it was a terribly, long walk to the beach mostly on sand which was a huge challenge with small children, so that's why I only gave it a 6. They send good directions ahead of time. Be sure to follow them because there is a low bridge very close to the campground. Of course, the hassle of getting there from anywhere other than Long Island, makes it a challenge. The gate locks at 9pm, so if you arrive later, you will need to park in the adjacent lot and walk to your site. Because it is a county park, additional cars/visitors are very expensive ($30/day for non-county residents). There is 24-hour security and the 5 mile/hour speed limit is strictly enforced as are quiet hours. Overall, an excellent campground. We would stay here again. - WollyCampers
