Colden Lakes is an "OK" campground. The sites are very plain and have water, electric, and sewer. There is not much else beyond that as for amenities at the sites. The section that we were in had the sites on top of each other with about a 10 foot strip of grass between the sites. The premium sites that actually faced water were already taken up by the full timers. Many of those sites actually had wood decks built and sheds. The different sections have security gates for vehicles. In order to access your area, you need to have an electronic access card. You are required to pay a $20 deposit for the access card. The $20 is refunded when you turn in the card, providing there is someone there to take the card. We had to give it to the maintenance guy who gave us $20 out of his pocket so we could get on the road. The road to the campground is absolutely horrible. There are extremely steep hills to climb and descend. The roads are also in horrible condition deteriorating with numerous pot holes. - Armyret99
May 2014 - $50.00
This large campground has undergone some major improvements over the past couple of years. Although this park tends to cater more toward seasonals, there is a newer section to accommodate weekenders. However, the weekend sites tend to be very close together, so privacy at the sites is minimal. Also, the sites could use a little more grooming. We also noticed that many of the sites in the newer section are now also being rented out to more permanent, seasonal residents. This is reducing the amount of sites available to weekenders and travelers. The on-premises restaurant serves excellent food and offers live music on weekends. Swimming pool is great. Not much stock at the camp store. However, there is a large town (East Aurora) only about four miles away where you can get anything you might need. Overall, this is a nice campground. The reason that I gave it an (8) is because I felt the price is a little high for size of the sites. Nonetheless, we would stay there again. - mtrumpet
Jun 2011 - $40.00
This park has updated to 50amp full hookup sites, big rig pull through sites recently. They are open from May-Oct. There's a restaurant on the grounds along with small store that stocks every Friday. There's a large play area for baseball or frisbies and a small playground for the children. Everything is very clean and updated. We will stay again when coming through the area. - jimdee

Convenient to Darien Lake Amusement park and really not far to Buffalo or Niagara Falls. Busy park, most likely due to the proximity of the amusement park. We stayed here because it's less expensive than the campground associated with the amusement park, and from other reports, quieter--especially if there is a concert at the park. Dump station is a bit tricky with where it's located when you go to pull out from it if you have a long rig. (see comments below). A loop looked very nice, but when I booked our site, there weren't any available that could take our 40 ft rig. A loop is fine, but more open sites that have very little shade, depending on where you are in the loop. We would stay here again if visiting the amusement park. - LibraryMom
Jun 2016 - $30.00
We almost didn't stay here because previous reviewers said there was no big rig access, but there are definitely many big-rig sites, most are quite level, and we had no trouble with our 40-foot motorhome. Loop A is very shady; Loop B is open and we chose it to avoid tree branches. The on-line reservation system was quite accurate in it's choice of suitable sites. We were there before school vacation, so the park was empty during the week and nearly full on the weekend. Per the staff, when the nearby amusement park is open, the campground is packed. Water is available at many spigots, but you need to fill from the road before/after you camp. Very accessible double dump station. The park is truly lovely, and we would stay here again (off-season). - Mingo Papa

Love, love, love this campground. The staff was wonderful. Special thank you to staff and park ranger. Campground pristine, bathrooms spotless, grounds very well kept. - maxwell3816
Jul 2017 - $10.00
We stayed here as a Coast to Coast member. I agree with most of what the previous review said from 5 years ago. I think they have improved some things. They now give you a map to your site, they have a security group that patrols the park and was helpful finding our site. Our site was number 44 and was fairly close to the entrance. Our site was fairly level and clean. The interior roads are poor and the road to the dump station is the worst of them all. We did not even go to the dump station because of the road condition. We stayed three nights including a weekend and except for the barking dogs during the day the park was fine. Seems like a lot of people leave their RV there and just come up for the weekend and have lots of fires and gatherings but it was quiet and very little road noise. We would stay here again. - RayN
Jun 2012 - $10.00
We cannot recommend this park. We stayed here on Coast-to-Coast points, which made it cheap. The only virtue. Interior roads are dirt, rocks, and holes. Not maintained. In addition to the "RV" sites listed, there are several hundred seasonals. The term "Migrant Labor Camp" comes to mind. In the short term area there was not enough level ground to park my truck, much less the 35' trailer. The place was a sea of mud. We were given no map and there was no such thing as an escort. Sites appeared to be numbered at random. The dump station was a half mile from the entrance over BAD trails. Not happy??? You got it! - Little Black Dog
Aug 2016 - $15.00
Family of 10 tent camped! We enjoyed the time hiking, fishing, catching baby toads, and salamanders ,wading in the creek! Camping is what you make it! Bathrooms are showing some wear, but are clean. Camp site mowed and clean. Park employees are friendly and helpful! Could supply fire wood but we brought our own! Great time until I realize I lost my husbands truck keys in the woods( I guess they fell out of my back pack while hiking) It's a good thing we weren't to far from home to get the extra set! We left a message at the shop in case they are found! Live and learn! - Conniemarie
Jun 2014 - $22.00
We were a bit skeptical about this place when no one returned my call until two days later, which was after our arrival. I looked on the web site to determine which site to set up on as you can look at availability and we then registered with the groundskeepers in the morning. Some sites (about 10 in the electric section) are good for larger rigs (we are 38 feet). We set up on site 8 and had plenty of room. We were able to get about 7 channels on the antenna. It was very quiet during our stay. It is out of the way but we found it convenient as we wanted to be between Buffalo and Ellicotville. I would NOT take a big rig to the non-electric sites (low branches; tent or pop-up sites only). For the electric bigger rig sites, I would suggest 6, 8, 9, 13, 16, 27, 29 to name a few. Not a lot for kids to do but there are tennis courts and lots of trails and nice playgrounds. No activities planned. There are a lot of trees and shade. Park is clean and mowed. - twins89
Aug 2008 - $20.00
I found this park from this website when I was in a critical need of a place to stay. The staff was exceptional in accommodating my need. The campground is very nice an spacious and great for a town owned park. We would most definitely stay there again. - Zipster
Sep 2017 - $40.00
We we checked in we were told to pull into one of 5 sites (across from the over flowing dumpsters). We were suppose to have a pull through with full hookups. Did NOT happen! Thank goodness there were few campers as we had to pull in to our back in in order to reach water and electricity. Site was not level. Fire ring was just a charred place in the ground. Probably, because of the overflowing dumpsters the flies were abundant. Very happy it was a quick overnight. - Skipp
Aug 2017 - $40.00
Some of the staff, knowledgeable, most not so much. Lots of young folks working in the office that are not familiar with anything happening around the park. Non seasonal area not laid out very well at all. Some sites had to pull into (back in site) unless you have longer utility to run under the camper, no sewer, utilities placed very willy nilly all over the place. Funny thing, had one friendly neighbor tell her husband (my windows were open) that he better march up to my camper, knock on the door and tell me to unhook my electric from her site (glad he had his head on straight as no one likes a bossy WRONG neighbor.) Fire pits (burnt spots in the grass) all over the place with folks burning anything and everything (seen one fella burning broken up pallets, nails and all.) Gated with security cards. Many seasonals did not adhere to speed limit. Watched one of the maintenance-security guys do a Dukes of Hazard donut in the grass (in a car) to run off some folks that were walking on the beach (plowed sand) area after closing time (2 hours of light left.) Very good reason to break the speed barrier. I probably would not return to this park unless they tighten up a bit (a lot). Could be a decent park otherwise. - On the way
May 2017 - $38.00
We stayed for two weeks, planned; had a pull through site with water and electric. No sewer hookups; a dump station by the restroom. Also a "pump-out" service offered for $12. which we purchased. Later, found our pump handle to be broken off. The showers were fairly primitive; inconsistent water temperature. The sites are laid out haphazardly and not well defined on a large grassy/dirt area which was quite messy in the rain. Staff gave the impression of being bothered by the guests. During an evening walk, out of the campground and entering the neighborhood street, my husband was ordered back onto campground and told he was not allowed "out" and to return to his campsite. The campground had three trash dumpsters but were overflowing constantly. - pamMJR
Sep 2012 - $31.00
Rate based upon week's stay. 90% seasonal. "F" and "G" streets is one area for over nighters. Spaces wide, but turn out to road is 90 degrees, so not ideal for big rigs. Large rv sales/service, seemed competent folks. Plenty of shade. Brand new utility in "F" and "G" area, which was nice. About 6 local TV stations. Did not like: 1) Pool closed post Labor Day when temps in 80s 2) Pay showers 3) Only 3 pull thru options that we could decipher 4) Very weak WiFi signal, but excellent near main bldgs, told they were working on it. Would stay again. - Hallock5
Aug 2010 - $33.00
The park was nice, but like others have commented, the sites are very small and very close together. Most sites lacked grass, they were usually gravel or dirt. The sites that had grass were seasonal sites, and most likely planted or brought by the renters. The site had several pools, including a wading pool and a pretty good playground. My son enjoyed all of these. The camp store was pretty small, and didn't have too many supplies. Interaction with the staff was pleasant and most seemed happy to help. The big thing that I found annoying was all of the golf carts that people use to get around. Maybe it was because we were on a corner lot, but it seemed like people were always going somewhere. It was hard to enjoy the quiet and campfire when golf carts with head lights were constantly passing by. - penberth
Jun 2010 - $40.00
Very nice seasonal campground with some short term sites, most of which are good for RVs of 32 feet or less. Very well kept. Two decent sized lifeguarded swimming pools with adult swim 5-6 pm daily. Nice activities building, and space for lawn games such as volleyball, rustic mini golf. Not much to do in the area, but that's OK since we were visiting family. We were fortunate to get site 38, an unrented seasonal site, that was more than large enough for our 40' rig with 4 slides, awning and toad. Some woodsy side screening. Excellent 50 amp, OK water pressure, good sewer, no cable TV but enough over-the-air TV. Verizon cell and air card worked great. No road noise. Quiet during the week, busy but reasonable on the weekends. - Phaetonman
Aug 2017 - $17.00
This is a well manicured park that makes a good stop over. There is very little to do in this rural area. There is a single bar & grill and a single pump gas station less than 2 miles from the park. The park is very family-oriented with playground and pool. Clean laundry. Security gate. Pleasant staff. Site was gravel and mostly level. Gravel interior roads easy to navigate. Big Rig friendly. Some road noise from highway bordering park. Minimal shade. Picnic table and fire ring. The rate above is Passport America. - SunStar203
Jul 2017 - $46.00
This was out first time here and it was very pleasant. The sites are wide and to be honest probably among the wider ones we've encountered in campgrounds. Office staff was friendly and helpful. The roads are very narrow which made backing our 41 foot class A into it's spot challenging considering there were sites bordering the other side of the road. It was impossible to back into our spot without driving on the site across the road. Our Verizon smartphones had slow data connections at times. - CaSm1993
Jul 2016 - $30.00
stayed 3 nights in 43 motor home plus tow; located is very quiet rural area, about 15 miles to store; looks like a giant pasture, well kept and mowed. site grassy with gravel pad. Widely spaced nice sites with tables and fire rings. Offfice was not warm and fuzzy nor informative. Gated and a very large park. - ritag
May 2016 - $65.00
Darien Lake's campground exists in support of the theme park. Some areas are tight. You can find low hanging branches. There are few patio sites and only two non patio pull-throughs.
Great security, good water pressure and over-the-air TV. No WiFi.
Our site required blocks with the auto levelers to get settled.
The upper area by Apple Lake is quiet but you need a bike, cart or car to get down to the park unless you want a LONG walk. - wdw
Jul 2015 - $75.00
We stayed twice this summer - alway a great value for your dollar. Both times we camped using a half price promo deal. Sites are nicely shaded, bathrooms do the job - but they really need to be tended to several times a day...and need a good scrub down daily....I don't think that happens. The staff are very friendly and the check in process is quick. I've already booked for next year! - User3551
Jul 2014 - $250.00
I've stayed here in the past and had a wonderful experience. This past time I was not as impressed. They've changed the way you book the campsites. I used to be able to choose the sites, but this time it was by "tier" levels. I was really disappointed with the spot we were at. No trees. I felt it was quite a hike to the park even though it was a "top tier". One of the toilets in the bathroom was continually overflowing, and my daughter was quite upset when she used that bathroom and it overflowed. I suppose if I got to choose my spot I would not be as disappointed. Other than that, it is a nice spot to park and camp next to the amusement park. - User3551
Jul 2016 - $40.00
This isn't a typical campground. About 80-90% of the campers are permanent with porches and/or add-a-rooms. Sites are only rented on a weekly basis at $250/week with a full 30 amp hookup. Water, water pressure and electric were all very good. Very clean with lots of activities. Two in ground pools plus kiddie pools.
The permanent sites are leased and the community has elections and determines what the seasonal rates will be. Pretty unique in our experience. We stayed from a Friday until the following Wednesday. I believe this was the quietest site we've ever stayed at. And there were kids around. It is a gated park. No charge for guests, but they do need to sign in.
It's about 10 minutes from the outskirts of Buffalo with plenty of good restaurants and entertainment available.
We would definitely recommend checking out Leisurewood. - pitman44
