CG has a large day use are and is used by many local groups. Lots of activities for the kids and teens - swimming beach and hiking trails in the summer, snow tubing and cross country skiing in the winter. Very large park, but a small campground. One bath house was adequate facility for the small park. It was clean and well maintained. I would rate this CG a 7 (good) for a "family" camping experience and 5 for the "rustic" camping experience. If you like privacy and isolation, try to get sites 34, 12 A or one of the others along the outside of the two loops - these have excellent spacing between sites. Others (on the interior) are a little close. The closest diesel fuel is about 12 miles away, the closest (small) grocery store is approx 6 miles away. In general, the sites are level and wide enough. Roads are paved. Only 30 amp power is available. Verizon coverage is 2/5, TV reception is limited to a couple of stations. Water is not available at each site, but is available at the dump station and in the campground. We camped at Glimmerglass State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

In addition to the Baseball museum in Cooperstown, the Farmers Museum is pretty good. $15 per person, seniors a little less.

We have not camped here in over twenty years and what great improvements they have made to this park. All 39 sites are electric with a clean bathroom with showers in the middle of the two loops. The campground is not on the lake but a short bike ride to a beautiful lake with basketball courts, swimming, fishing, biking and hiking. It is only about 6.5 miles north of Cooperstown. During the winter there is ice fishing, ice skating, cross country skiing and snow tubing. We have been camping for over two weeks in NY state parks and this is the gem campground of all of them. What a beautiful park and campground! We camped at Glimmerglass State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Hyde Hall Mansion Historic Site is on the grounds to visit and Cooperstown is about a half hour away. Cooperstown is a quaint town with the Baseball Hall of Fame, restaurants, lake park, hotels, bed and breakfasts, wine trail and breweries. RVs can not park in downtown Cooperstown but they have free parking at three big lots outside of town Red, Yellow and Blue. The Yellow shuttle stop is the best for RVs and is just past the golf course and the Fenimore Art Museum on the right. The shuttle costs $2.00 per person for the day with a number of stops and narration by the driver. The OmmeGang Belgium Brewery south of town has tours, tasting and an interesting café.

Great New York State Campground only two electric loops and plenty of tent sites at the Beaver pond. The bath and showers were very clean and heated with plenty of hot water. Rated only a seven because water at sites and sewer would be nice but I do understand the states problem with winterizing. Stayed in 34" motorhome and sites have plenty of room. We camped at Glimmerglass State Park in a Motorhome.

We really cannot say anything bad about this park. It is just a park aimed more towards the local camper or tenter. We stayed here because my wife was having surgery at the hospital in Cooperstown. There are no hook ups in any of the sights, but they are very busy and we stayed in overflow which was just a big field by the pond at $12 a night. Generator hours are lousy as they are in most NY state parks (9-11 & 5-9). We ran over about 10 minutes one night and the park ranger came knocking on our door telling us to shut our generator off so keep that in mind. We would not rush back there for a vacation, but if we needed to be in the area would have no problem staying here again. Area is nice and the beach was pretty although we did not get much chance to use it. Park employees were very nice. We camped at Glimmerglass State Park in a Motorhome.
