Easily accessible near Newburgh from 84 heading east from New England. Our site was on hill in a pretty and quiet setting with nice views. Very large property with areas still forested and other areas cleared. Ample space between sites and some grass. Saw lots of deer. Enjoyed pool although we had to disconnect to drive to pool as our RV was up the hill. Folks without mobility issues cop an go down a trail to pool near office and then walk back up. Seems like the RV parks I this area are all high. Only negative was employee made us sign in and then sat there, waited until 7, citing he had to lock up pool to treat it. The pool was lovely, it was hot day and would have stayed longer except for this. Bathrooms were spotless, modern, good lighting. Perfect for one night stay. Would stay longer in the future. We camped at Black Bear Campground in a Motorhome.

We visited this campground ten years ago when the interior roads were dirt. They have upgraded to black top, which is an improvement, but needs some resurfacing. It is an uphill climb to most of the sites but very doable. The sites are level with good utilities and WIFI available on site. We were surprised to find a relatively empty campground during our stay. That might be due to overpricing. There is a smallish pool near the office that is nice but requires a trip down the hill and back. There is a NYC tour available from the campground, but we did not take it. We did take in a Broadway show that required a two-hour trip via car and train to get there. But the drive and train ride were pleasant and the day in New York was fun. We camped at Black Bear Campground in a Motorhome.

This campground looks great when you pull in and start up the hill toward the campsites but when you arrive it's just one big field. Gravel sites and mostly mowed weeds. Some sites have trees but in the middle there is nothing but overhead wires. We were not impressed. Sites are close together but are long. Satellite was good and AT&T pretty good as well. Their wifi was also good. We won't stay here again. We camped at Black Bear Campground in a Motorhome.

These sites are full Hook Up (W-S-E) on well leveled sites of back-in and pull thru. They also offer free Wi-Fi, cable TV, picnic tables, & fire rings. This campsite is dog friendly, but you must have and show proof of rabbi vaccine. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We stayed before Memorial Day when it was quiet. They have a store, laundry facilities, dump station, shower, and restroom facilities. It looks like they have done a lot of work in this campground to make it presentable and bigger. A plus is, they offer NYC Bus Tours from their campground. See their activity calendar. The first hill beyond the office was a tough one until around the corner and to the top. We camped at Black Bear Campground in a Travel Trailer.

If you overlook the somewhat unattactive gravel lot and look to the horizons, this is a beautiful location, right in the middle of New York's highlands. Whether those highlands be mountains or not, they impose a roller coaster foundation for the roads, confronting me and my trailer with steep, up to 9%, grades, where I learned too late that my trailer exceeded the weight limit. My GPS, sadly, does not plan routes based on the height or weight of my rig, and I can't always rely on it to keep connected. So there were a few times when I had to find my way back to the campground by dead reckoning. My RV site was large but unprepossessing section of a gravel plateau on the slope above the office. I had full hookups, but the cellular service was so weak that my hot spot was not always able to push wifi to my tablet. Black Bear bills itself at a staging area for New York City, and that's why I stayed there, and like all things associated with the Big Apple, it was expensive. I availed myself of the opportunity once, driving in less than an hour to the Cortlandt train station, from which I got to NYC in less than another hour. My campground search revealed no satisfactory alternative closer, and it turned out to be a reasonably pleasant week. In the off chance I return to visit NYC, I would definitely consider Black Bear. We camped at Black Bear Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed there for 4 days on our way to NYC. We stayed on the bottom hill and based on other reviews that was the better loop. The staff was super friendly. The site was mostly level except at the ends and since we are about 65' and in a 60' spot it wasn't the best. We have a motorcycle and you can't have motorcycles on the upper hill, where the spaces are 90'. They have a heated swimming pool which was still a little bit cold for us. There is not much to do in the park. The surrounding areas are very nice. Just a note, when you're going through town you might get a warning on your GPS for overweight vehicles. ignore it, I checked with the campground and that's what they said. There is no sign that warns about it. We camped at Black Bear Campground in a Motorhome.

The surrounding areas were very nice and had things to do. There is an Ice cream store called the Bellvale Creamery that was rated the #2 ice cream in the united states. It was good, but we also tried the Rock Creamery in Middletown and we found it to be better

Thank you for your review. We are excited that we are now allowing motorcycles in our lower levels. We have also begun to provide the following GPS warning: If you are following GPS it may send you on a longer route than necessary. Please set your GPS to utilize Interstates and main highways.
• If coming from the West, it is often advisable to program your GPS first to Scranton, PA; once in Scranton, then reprogram to Goshen, NY; once in Goshen, then reprogram to Black Bear Campground, 197 Wheeler Rd., Florida, NY.
• If you are coming from the Northwest or Southwest into Florida, NY, it is advisable to reroute to I-84 through to Middletown, NY, and then exit to Florida, NY, to Black Bear Campground.
• If you are coming from the South, confirm that your route takes you on NJ-23, then 94 to NY to Florida, NY for the easiest route in.

Beautiful, quiet park a little off the beaten path, but fairly close to transportation to NYC. The staff was pleasant and helpful. They had information on the various modes of transportation. The bus stop in Warwick was about 20 minutes away, had free parking and took about 2 hours into the Port Authority. The train station in Peekskill was closer, didn't have free parking, and went into Grand Central Station. There are over 150 sites spread over a large area you can see your neighbor, but they are not that close. Our site had a table and fire pit. We had a back-in site that provided plenty of shade. The pull-thru sites were in full sun. There are daily activities and miniature golf, basketball, shuffle board. An added bonus one evening when returning to our site we saw a doe and her two fawns in the meadow. The doe ran off right away but the fawns were very curious and didn't run away until the engine of our hybrid car switched on. Laundry was $2.50 and dryer was $2.00. We camped at Black Bear Campground in a Motorhome.

The train station in Peekskill was deceiving. In large print the lot said FREE PARKING. Underneath in tiny print it said weekends and holidays. We returned from our trip into NYC to find a $75 ticket. The meters were only good for 3 hours and we did not find any public parking

A bit off the beaten path, but there aren't many choices in this area. The park is very clean, office staff were nice. Our site was way up on top of a hill. Signs said to drive 20mph and "maintain speed" due to the steep incline. Unless your rig is seriously underpowered don't drive up that fast. It isn't THAT steep and there is a savage dip on one side of the road near the top. If you are going 20mph in a large motor home you WILL fling open cabinets and doors when you hit that dip. Ask me how I know.

Otherwise, the site was flat, water and electrical were conveniently located, sewer was too. Trees around the edges of the campsites, but no problem getting satellite reception. Site was gravel. Wifi worked and allowed unlimited devices which is nice for laptops, iPads, phones all connecting. Quiet too - zero road noise. As others have said the office and pool are a hike from the campsites. No escort to site, but sites were very easy to find. We had a back in site and it was fairly easy to back into. We camped at Black Bear Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Small town of Florida has some interesting restaurants. Beware the weight limits on local roads. Most large class A will exceed them. However they make exceptions for "local deliveries" which I assume includes RVs staying at Black Bear. Your RV GPS may take you on a very circuitous route as a result.

NYC is a a longer commute than you might think so if you plan to use this to tour NYC just be prepared for a 2 hour trip each way. There aren't many other choices for touring NY though, and you don't want to try to get your motor home much closer to NY traffic anyway.

We stayed 4 nights. 40 Foot Class A Diesel Pusher with 4 slides and pulling our toad. We have our own satellite dish, use our OTA antenna and seldom use cable. We have 2 in our party with a small dog. Hook ups were acceptable with no issues on electricity, water or sewage. We use the WIFI for basic, seemed OK. We have our own MIFI. What we liked: The staff was courteous / friendly on arrival. The site is crushed rock which did the job. There was plenty of room all around. We spent most of our time doing day trips so spent little time at the RV Park. We enjoyed the countryside for walks in the evening and morning. Dislikes: Loud long time guest feeling the need to warm up their unattended diesel welding trucks at 5AM! The roads nearby have weight limits in the city so the GPS takes you in such way to enter and exit with low hanging limbs and branches. All my top clearance lights were broken and had to unhitch the toad to make through some of the U Turns. Could never get a straight answer from authorities if OK to travel on the main road. Seemed like a set up to me. Price was right with what was offered and for the area. We would stay here again but can the park obtain clarity on the weight limit taking the better route? We camped at Black Bear Campground in a Motorhome.

Stayed here primarily due to location (close to NYC) and the tour package. The tour package is well worth the price ($115 per person), especially if this is your first time to NY. Park was fine EXCEPT all of the current pipe fitters living there and working in the area. Nice people, don't get me wrong, but for the life of me I don't understand their ridiculous need for loud exhaust systems on their trucks. Park owners should make an effort to keep all of the workers in the lower portion of the park, since most of them leave for work between 5 and 6 AM. If you don't mind the noise or wake up at this time of day, then your fine. Out of fairness to the park, nice park overall....just lots of vehicle noise and traffic. WiFi was good when everyone was at work. We camped at Black Bear Campground in a Motorhome.

Stayed for 3 nights in a pull through site. No shade and close to neighbor. Not worth the money and very noisy. Other campers staying on site for jobs left early in morning and started vehicles and left them running until they left at which time they peeled out of the park. So much for speed limits. No courtesy for others in park. We camped at Black Bear Campground in a Motorhome.

Somewhat expensive but understandable being close to NYC where everything is expensive.

They offer a guided tour to NYC which we took and was well worth the $115.00. Our tour was on a weekend so traffic was lighter than normal so our guide and driver took us for a short drive though Manhattan to see some extra sites like the Ed Sullivan Theatre and Radio City Music Hall. The balance of the tour was Time Square, Ground Zero, Ellis Island and of course the Statue of Liberty.

We stayed in a pull thru close to the office but most of the sites are up on the hill which is a steep climb to get there plus it's a long ways back to the office or pool so most people would drive there than walk. We camped at Black Bear Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
