Overall the park is nice, the views can't be beat. But I have to say there was just an overall feeling of the facilities being rundown. The dog park is ridiculous, barely big enough for a dog to walk in. But even though at check in I was told there was no off leash place for the dogs to swim, the pet walk is right on a very large no swimming beach and there were off leash dogs enjoying the water every day all day. If your dog is well behaved there isn't an issue and the dogs absolutely loved it. Bring what you need for your stay, closest nice grocery stores and shopping are a 30 minute drive. Skyweb was upgrading the wifi network during our stay. Water pressure and hookups were all good. We camped at 1000 Islands / Association Island KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Dear DoodleMom, thank you for taking the time to review our campgrounds. We have heard that comment many times, and are considering our dog park options. As far as the campground being run down, we are actively looking to improve our infrastructure. Understand we have the challenge of being in that awesome location, and the history of many of our structures.

If you want to see our efforts for renovations, see the before and after images in this article. https://www.newyorkupstate.com/camping/2018/06/from_general_electric_retreat_to_renovated_campround_the_rebirth_of_association.html

We hope on your return visit, you will see improvements. WE are working on the motel, a restaurant, and other options for our guests for 2019.

June 2018. We stayed in H sites that our Montana Rally reserved. The campground is surrounded by the most beautiful views that are visable any where you walk around the campground. The drive into the campground right away gives you the Wow factor. The campground is very well maintained with hard working staff. The friendly staff did over and beyond to make our stay the best experience possible we could not ask for more. They where very accommodating and eager to please. World class fishing available either with a arranged guide or bring your own boat. Thank you KOA for making our MOC fishermen a day to remember! Sites on the water are to die for but our site was 1 street over and water view was visible from our site. Pickleball courts are in the works over the summer. many buildings on site to accommodate group activities. We absolutely loved the campground, staff, and surrounding area. We will definitely return. Just loved it here! We camped at 1000 Islands / Association Island KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Thank you Montana Owners Club for giving us the honor of hosting your Northeast Rally in June. WE are so excited to know you had a wonderful stay on our Island.
The Island has been a labor of love for Doc and Sue Shim, the owners. While they have gone through some rough patches, the Island has made a great recovery from the floods of 2017, and now that the wind is to our backs, we have great plans for the future. We hope to host you all again. Thank you for your kind compliments. We will be sure to tell our staff about your praises.

This is a very picturesque campground. It is off the beaten path. You drive over a land bridge to the island. The road is narrow, but very manageable, and you are escorted to your site. We stayed here for 6 day, and hated to leave. We had site H1, which is a drive in corner lot, with the windshield facing Henderson Harbor, and the curb side facing the marina where all the boat slots are. We had all types of weather doing out stay, and did not have any issues. If I have to complain about something, it would be all the cotton wood trees, blowing all the cotton around. They were shedding so bad, that some area of the campground was covered in cotton wood cotton. It really looked like it snowed. But as long as it was not the site you are on, it was very pretty watching it float around. We loved this campground and were sadden that we did not have more time to stay longer. We camped at 1000 Islands / Association Island KOA in a Motorhome.

Our price reflects the KOA discount and a $50 credit we had earned, applied to our one-week stay. While some of the amenities look aged, everything was clean. This park has a new owner, and he seems to be working diligently to bring it back. Many of the sites had been regraded and elevated, due to flooding the previous year (we heard). The location is wonderful - the whole island is the campground, and many sites are right at the lake shore. Some sites even have two fire rings - one by the rig and one by the lake so you can take your chairs down and enjoy the sunset view. If you're into water sports - kayaking, SUP, etc. - be sure to ask for a site on the leeward side. We joined our friends at their site and enjoyed paddling out to a little island and back. The area is beautiful, and the water is SO clean. You could see fish, and they were good-sized. The season hadn't really started yet, so some of the common areas hadn't yet opened, but there seem to be lots of activities available. The may flies were ridiculous, but the office had a great informational sheet on how they are indicators of good water quality, and some tips on how to manage them. Fans work! We put a fan inside pointed at the door and it kept them out, but they will congregate on the leeward side of whatever they can find. Thank goodness they don't bite, they were just a nuisance. But that's nature! We would love to return to this area, there's so much to see and do. We camped at 1000 Islands / Association Island KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

There are lots of great little towns in the area, with good food and drink selections. Maggie's on the River in Watertown, and Sacket Harbor Brewing Co in Sacket Harbor were both good. Here it's all about the water, so get on it and have fun!

Denise and Glenn, Thank you for the wonderful review. The Ownership has not changed, but we did Hire a New General Manager, and he has really made it his mission to improve the campground. The flooding of 2017 exposed deficiencies in our processes, and we made management changes that have be received very well by new customers, but some of the prior campers are having a difficult time transitioning from the relationship with the prior Management. While we are always thankful for all who have worked for us, we are confident we have made an excellent selection with our current staff. Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback. We look forward to hosting you again the future.

Don't understand the negative reviews, this place ticked all my boxes! Spacious sites, level, good wifi, clean restrooms with hot water at good pressure, great views from all sides. Yes, it can be a bit noisy because it is a family campground but quiet hours were observed. Would definitely stay here again! We camped at 1000 Islands / Association Island KOA in a Motorhome.

After reading all of the negative reviews I must admit I was very worried about our upcoming reservation. All my fears were set aside when we checked in and met the gentleman at the front desk. Very friendly staff. While the campground has received a lot of rain which created some difficulties, we saw a beautiful campground with the staff working very hard to please. The grass has been mowed, we saw no rutted road and everything seem very clean. They have lost some of their amenities like the bounce house and some things do look a little tired, but nothing like the bad reviews. We are looking forward to a wonderful stay here. Went there with concerns. Attendant took time to show me around the entire park, went out again to show me what was available for 3 less nights than arranged 2 months ago. Selected L 15 with the best sunset view. Got grass and weeds under control but swarming lake flies and mosquitos are pests. Rained all night long which left a lot of standing water through out the park. My site is mostly good. We camped at 1000 Islands / Association Island KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Pull through waterfront spots were very nice, we were on the windy side of the Island and it stayed so cool we did not have to run the air conditioner. The spots that are not waterfront are very rutted and uneven, and they stay a lot warmer without the wind. Front desk staff are polite, but appear to be a little poorly trained. The rental golf carts running laps of the park were not appropriate, and the speeds should be limited. We camped at 1000 Islands / Association Island KOA in a Travel Trailer.

If this is what KOA's are becoming, count us out. This place has such potential, but looks more like a campground facility that is shutting down. The grass is not cut, ruts and low spots to hold water across the landscape. Delapidated buildings in various states of disrepair. Our first and last visit. The staff in the office was nice. Nice campground. Ample, level sites. Good views of the water. This is a fairly large campground where all units are removed for the winter. There are units parked for the summer, but none of the usual signs of full time campsites. The staff is friendly, the manager is quite helpful. We enjoyed our stay so we extended it by another day. It is a relatively quiet park even when filling up for the weekend. The only down side of our stay was the lack of water on our last day. Not sure how long it lasted, but there was no water when we left around 11:00. Until then the pressure and quality of water was excellent. All hookups were easy and well placed. Definitely plan a return visit. We camped at 1000 Islands / Association Island KOA in a Travel Trailer.

The only thing this place has going for it is the view of Lake Ontario. You pay a premium for a "lakefront" site but most of them are blocked by bushes and are peripheral at best. The entire park is filthy. There is goose poop everywhere and the sites located at the front of the park smell like sewage and rotten lake matter. There is trash all along the lakefront. There was an old tire along the road the entire time we were here, and no one removed it. The dog park was disgusting: very small and full of waste.

The second day we were here, there was a dead fish in the dog park and it was never removed either.

The manager came out and yelled at the children on the jump pillow with a bullhorn. The staff was mostly rude and was not very happy to be asked about anything. The park was very overpriced and the sites were extremely narrow. I would never stay here again. We camped at 1000 Islands / Association Island KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

"Not ready for business"

Reserved a week , may 14- 21. Campground opened on the 13th. Upon arrival waited without even being acknowledged to check in. Asian lady on phone would not even make eye contact, only when manager came in did someone even speak to me.

Got the site we requested, weather was bad but that is fine.

Cable not working, and unless we stopped and asked at the office, got no info. What we were told is they know it is broke , only part of island did it work on, no ETA for repairs or even suggestion to move to a site with working cable.

Water pressure problems from Saturday on, still not working well on Tuesday. Suggestion was to fill our tanks and use our pump.

Massive issue started on Monday with hordes of some sort of bug, looked like flying ants. Swarms of them all over the island. Could not walk the dog or even be outside without being swarmed. Difficult seeing as you tried to avoid the goose crap all over the campground. Which basically looked like a renovation project gone horribly wrong. Construction material, equipment all over, from large piles of stone to roofing projects half complete.

We pulled out today without even bothering to see about a refund for unused days. Bugs were so bad we drove the car out instead of hooking up to avoid the swarming bugs.

WiFi is free but worthless. You get one hour gratis, but it kicks you off after 10 minutes, and when connected it is extremely slow. We were one of less than 5 people on the entire campground so slowness was not do to heavy traffic.

Gives the area and all KOAs a bad name, won't ever go back regardless of the views. We camped at 1000 Islands / Association Island KOA in a Motorhome.
