First, the campground is difficult to reach. If you go the wrong way, you will find out that the bridge leading into the campground is only 6 ft. 6 in. You will have to turn around and head back the way you came, over another one-lane bridge to be on the correct side of the river. I understand it's not the parks fault, but better signs warning people approaching the park would be a great help. The sites are very close together, and right next to the road. Most of the sites are gravel, with almost no tree cover from the sun. The showers are outside the campground on the day use area. Men's showers where clean, but my wife did not say the same thing for the women's. Also, they don't tell you that the gate is closed at 9 PM, so if you happen to shower at night keep that in mind. We camped at Beaverkill State Park in a Travel Trailer.

I don't really understand the poor reviews for this state park campground. No this is not a KOA. It's not intended to be. What it is, is a place to camp if you like a rugged kind of outdoor trip. The park itself is a heavily wooded Catskill Mountain State Park with nice scenery and a small river or large stream however you want to look at it. Trout fishing is outstanding. If your kids need Yogi Bear and water slides this isn't it. If you want beautiful scenery, great fishing, and quiet pitch black nights of old school camping: you should rather like this place. We camped at Beaverkill State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Keep your site clean. There are skunks, coons, and a healthy bear population here.

Trout fishing is outstanding.

The price reflects the service, amenties and style of the grounds. As for me I'll happily pay a few extra bucks for family owned and operated campsite. We camped at Beaverkill State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We dry camped 20 feet from the river. Beautiful location. Very few amenities. Only the most rugged RVs attempt this. On the West side, there are small roads with potholes. Mostly paved through campground. On the East side, rugged large stones and difficult to maneuver, but easier access by highway 151. Dogs need vaccination records. Bears in the area. Beautiful covered bridge (no autos) and great trout fishing. If your rig can take it, go for it. We camped at Beaverkill State Park in a Travel Trailer.
