Campground roads can only fit one vehicle. Sites are poorly numbered. Ground is not level and wood debris strewn all over. Campsites are much too close. I could hear personal conversations from neighboring campers. Broken curtains on shower stalls. No dressing room and must dress in front of everyone who is using the toilets- I left the campground earlier than planned because I could not shower. We camped at Mills Norrie State Park in a Truck Camper.

We have experienced NY state parks that are well set up and well run. This is not one of them. The sites are strewn all over a hill side with cross roads that are steep and barely wide enough for a vehicle. Each site is identified with a number, but there is no indication at each "road" what sites are along that "road." Once the office closes around 6:00 pm, according to the signs posted, there is no one on site overnight. Of course, there are no hookups whatsoever. The place was OK for two mid-week overnights of dry-camping while exploring the area, but there's not much to recommend the place. The trash barrel at my site was packed full for two nights. The $5 surcharge for non-residents plus the $2.50 "transaction fee" (for showing up?) is the frosting on a lousy cake. I don't think I'd stay there again. We camped at Mills Norrie State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

In Hyde Park, visit the Franklin D. Roosevelt home and museum and library. Also, just up the road is the Vanderbilt mansion open for tours. Both are managed by the National Park Service.

The campground is only five miles north of Hyde Park, where the FDR and Vanderbilt National Historic Site is located on beautiful route 9. So we stayed two nights without hookups near the Hudson River. The sites are not level but you can find some that will take RVs under 30 feet. There are bathrooms with showers but we arrived on Memorial Day and they were dirty and stayed that way for our two day stay. The host site was not filled and I think maybe the hosts are responsible for the cleaning? Nice hiking trails high up along the Hudson River going to the Marina and north of the park. Cottages are available for rent. This is a big complex of over 1,000 acres. In the park there are picnic areas, trails, bridle paths, fishing, two 9 hole golf courses, cross country skiing, sledding hills, snowmobiling and the Mills Mansion. We camped at Mills Norrie State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Points of Interests - FDR Historic site with his library, home he was born and lived in, his wife retreat and other structures. Golden age pass accepted and this is a must stop. The Vanderbilt Mansion is just north of this and is part of this National Historic Site. Also coming in from the north on route 9 the cute town of Rhinebeck is located with inns, historic section, quaint stores and restaurants.
