We stayed two nights at this state park on the southern shore of Cayuga Lake in the Finger Lakes Region of NY. There were 78 sites, many not level, in the woods with clean bathhouses including showers. A number of water spigots in the two loop camping area. The camping area is not easy to find. One needs to stop by the park office on the lake side of 89 to register then head north for a little bit and find the park road and start to head up. The camping road will be on the left. If you reach the parking area for the falls you have gone too far. There is also a parking area on 89 for the lower falls. A number of trails to the falls and one can be found at the end of loop two in the campground. Check-in was easy and we enjoyed our stay even though it was a rainy day. The falls are considered one of the outstanding natural attractions of the northeast. They plunge 215 feet over rocky cliffs into the gorge, and what a fantastic sight it is. There is a picnic area, swimming and boat dock with slips on the lake side of 89. The park is also used for cross country skiing, sledding and skating. Summer concerts are held on the lake side. We would return to camp here. We camped at Taughannock Falls State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Points of interest: There are over 120 wineries in the Finger Lakes Region with detail wine trail maps and there are wineries not listed on the wine trail. The Cayuga Creamery is just north of the campground and the ice cream is excellent. Ithaca is a few miles south and it is considered the number one college town in the nation but do not try to see the colleges in an RV; small roads and some height restrictions, so beware. So much to do in this beautiful area in the summer and winter.

We loved the water area of the park, which is down on the lake. Tons of things to do and very enjoyable. We did not like the camp sites, too small and placed too close to each other. The traffic in the camp went on all night, along with very loud fellow campers, barking dogs, screaming kids, and pets running loose, which caused fights. Limited shade on our site and NO grass what so ever. We will not be visiting again. We camped at Taughannock Falls State Park in a Tent.

We stayed here to see Taughannock Falls (which wasn't too impressive). We drove around the camp site first looking for the check in. We had to exit the park and back track to find the park office. This should be noted when you register on line or have better signs. The office worker was VERY UNFRIENDLY and not helpful. I had to go back later in the day to get a map of the camp grounds. The sites are very tight with not much room to back in. There is NO SECURITY which I did not like. I only saw one park police drive by one time. We would NOT stay here again. We camped at Taughannock Falls State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a great campground for which to explore the Finger Lakes area. We were lucky enough to get a site with electricity and we filled up our water tank at a nearby spout before setting up. Although there is not any kind of security, the park rangers cruised through the campground on a regular basis during the day and evening hours. The signage around the campground and park is not very helpful. We found the campground first, but couldn't find the office until driving back and doing some searching. That was weird for any state campground. They need better signs. The walk to the 400 foot falls is great, you're close to the nice little town of Trumansburg and there are more wineries in the area than you would ever need to go to, unless you love wine like my wife. This campground may be better off for people like tenter's that don't require electricity, but we would definitely stay here again in the future if we could get the electrical hook up. We camped at Taughannock Falls State Park in a Tent Trailer.

The campground's best feature is it's location. From the campground you can walk down the hill and hike back to the falls which are beautiful. You are also a quick drive from the beach/playground/park on Cayuga Lake. We also went to see the falls at Buttermilk State Park and Robert Treman State Park which are not very far away. However, the sites were rather tight for our 29' trailer. The park ranger was super nice and had me jump into his golf cart to see if we could find a larger one open, but we stayed with our original site as most sites were taken. We had electric but like most state parks, we had to fill our water tank since there are no water hookups. The campground is on a hill with tiers of sites connected by short steep roads which did not make for very good bike riding for the kids. My son crashed his bike trying to negotiate a turn on a steep hill, but luckily was OK. Convenient campground but we would probably look for something different next time. We camped at Taughannock Falls State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice, basic state park. Restrooms decent and regularly cleaned. Sites not designed for biggest units, but you can fit. Hiking trails among most beautiful in country. Waterfalls are everywhere in this region. Campground very quiet at night. Walk to trails, Cayuga Lake from your site. Great place for families. We camped at Taughannock Falls State Park in a Tent Trailer.
