Overall Rating:

We stayed at Clute for 9 nights as a base for exploring Watkins Glen, Seneca Lake and many of the wineries located around the finger lakes. As a previous reviewer commented, the first impression of the park is not great. It fronts a busy highway and is composed of probably 2/3 full time travel trailers and fifth wheels. As you drive in with the marina on the side it looks kind of like a storage yard. We reserved a back in site on the F-Line that backs up to a baseball field. Baseball season was over so no disturbance here. The site is nice and wide and mostly sunny. Utilities were great; however, the sewer connection is to an unthreaded 4" pipe so bring a sewer donut or duct tape. The cable connection had many channels and wifi was better than most parks. Great water pressure. There was torrential rain while we were at Watkins Glen, and the park, although mostly grass and turf had a lot of mud in the area next to the gravel pad for the rv where the patio rug would go. This must be a rainy part of the country and most of the sites had this mud/dirt area. It would be great if the park, run by the city, would lay some gravel down in this area. Another consideration for the back in, F-line sites is that there are overflow sites that could be used between the back of your rv and the baseball field. Not sure how a camper would navigate this area and park without causing a crowded situation. We did not have any overflow behind us during the stay. The ladies in the front office are truly awesome. They are most helpful with the details of the park and know tons about the surrounding areas. The lakeside park across the road was unfortunately closed due to the heavy rains and standing water. We camped at Clute Park Campground (W W Clute Memorial Park) in a Motorhome.

Watkins Glen State Park is very close. Touring the Seneca Lake area is a blast with lots of wineries, breweries and a few distillers. Check out the FamousBrands store in downtown Watkins Glen for a great deal on camping shoes and clothing from many famous brands.

This was a weekend during the peak season, and we were placed on a pull though site that for most of the year serves as a driveway. It did have properly placed utilities and it was the proper size, but the site was all gravel whereas the rest of the campground sites were grassy. It was fine for a couple of nights, but my biggest objections were the people who cut through the site like it was still a driveway. I would not have stayed here if I had known ahead of time. We camped at Clute Park Campground (W W Clute Memorial Park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Our site was up front near the office. It was about 1/3 crushed rock and the rest grass. At first I thought the sight was pretty sketchy, but the ground was hard and level and the site was really long. So, I pulled in with ease and had plenty of space from my neighbors and decided I really liked the site. All of the other sites I saw looked similarly roomy. Utilities, wifi and cell reception worked great, and satellite was easy. But wait, there's more. There is a great, big park directly across the street right on Lake Seneca that is perfect for strolling and dog walking. The lake was gorgeous one night when a low fog rolled in over the lake. And, the ladies in the front office were some of the best I have met (I should have gotten names, but didn't). There are a ton of brochures, but they will help you find anything and they have great recommendations. In my case, I wanted breweries, dairies, and waterfalls and they hooked me up with maps, directions, must-do's and all that. Did I say they were terrific? There is a nearby marina and main street is about 1/2 mile away, so this is a great base for exploring the area. We camped at Clute Park Campground (W W Clute Memorial Park) in a Fifth Wheel.

In many other places this would be a basic county rv park but it's all about the location. Across the street from a beautiful park on Seneca Lake, five minutes walk across a bridge to Walmart, 10 minutes walk to downtown Watkins Glen. Level gravel spots reasonably spaced, wifi worked most of the time, especially closer to the central power poles, individual bathrooms clean. Over-priced but would definitely stay there again. We camped at Clute Park Campground (W W Clute Memorial Park) in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We stayed at Clute Memorial CG over Labor Day weekend to explore the southern Finger Lakes region. The campground is across the street from Seneca Lake and right around the corner from downtown Watkins Glen. Only a few seasonal sites appeared to have a view of the lake. The campground is nothing special (like a big grass parking lot), but was very popular; as soon as sites opened up in the morning, they were full by afternoon. Sites weren't too tight; there was plenty of room to easily back into site and park truck. Section C was back-in sites, and hookups were all at the back of the site so bring long electric cord and water hose. Sections A&B looked like pull-throughs with connections on the side. Full hookups, free wifi, cable and good cell signal. The two individual bathrooms by the office have bath/showers with locking doors. The bathhouse by the playground was more "public." Our only small complaint was that the dumpsters were overflowing every night, maybe due to holiday weekend. We wouldn't recommend this CG for a quick overnight stop unless you're already in the area or if this is your destination; access from main highway was about 20 miles of country roads, but if we were travelling in this area again, we would stay at Clute Memorial CG. We camped at Clute Park Campground (W W Clute Memorial Park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

We loved Watkins Glen State Park and the walk along the gorge (about 2-3 miles from the CG). If you like boating, the CG is right next to Glen Harbor Marina with nice access to Seneca Lake. We also enjoyed the Finger Lakes wineries and the drive to Taughannock Falls.

This is a perfect location. You can walk to town and Walmart, Seneca Lake is right across the street, The State park is close, and the gorge is absolutely beautiful. The Corning Museum isn't too far, and you can visit wineries to you hearts content. The park itself is plain Jane, but functional, and the staff is very helpful and pleasant. Clute Park Memorial Park campground is all about location. The campground is just across the street from the lakeshore. We walked downtown to restaurants and shopping. We also walked to and from Watkins Glen State Park. The campground itself is fine, nothing special or nothing unacceptable. Sites are fairly close together with little to no shade. Memorial Park is very conveniently located in the tourist town of Watkins Glen, NY. We were able to walk or ride our bikes to many local attractions (including a WalMart with grocery next door), and could easily reach some world-class tourist spots by car. We stayed two weeks and could have entertained ourselves for another week. This park is located on a canal and across the road from Seneca Lake, so boating/fishing are popular passtimes for guests. Our assigned back-in site proved a bit unlevel, so we had to use additional blocks. Staff are friendly, and this park does recycle. Cable TV service is excellent, however we opted to use our own Verison Internet service. We camped at Clute Park Campground (W W Clute Memorial Park) in a Motorhome.

The camping area is fine, a basically open area with some trees. Site spacing is decent. Sites are level and easy to get into. Wifi when we were there was outstanding, with speeds from 5-20 Mbs, the highest we've ever experienced at a campground. . Staff was very friendly and helpful. The park location worked well for our explorations of the southern Finger Lakes region and we'd return if we came here again. Price reflects a two week stay. Asphalt/gravel interior roads. Grass/gravel sites. Have straight back-ins and straight pull-throughs. Has two speed bumps. Quiet park. Unfortunately allows campfires and unable to have windows open much due to them. Over 100 channels of cable TV with a guide channel. Internet was great when it worked, but was slow and limited a lot. Easy in and out with a 60 foot combo. We camped at Clute Park Campground (W W Clute Memorial Park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Best place to get fuel is Dandy's Mini Mart in Burdett, NY. Three miles northeast of the campground on Hwy 79. Lots more room and safer for vehicles pulling trailers and for motorhomes then any of the stations in Watkins Glen. Wal-Mart within walking distance. Food vendors at the park across the street on different days, plus a farmers market on Wednesday afternoon. Lots of state parks in the area for hiking. Liked Watkins Glen State Park the best.

The campground itself is small and has few amenities but across the street is the park, wonderful for families with many options. A short jaunt on the crosswalk brings you to W.W. Clute Park which has a small beach with lifeguard stand, tons of playground equipment, a large pavilion perfect for a family reunion or club meetings, horseshoe pits, tons of shade, grills, picnic tables and benches with an outstanding view of Seneca Lake. The campground is also conveniently located adjacent to the Glen Harbor Marina and boat launch. Lots of fast food and full service restaurants, Walmart, and other shops are within a mile or two drive. The campground only has two showers but they are clean and equipped for wheelchair access. There are no laundry facilities but there is a laundromat nearby in town. The sites are gravel and fairly level. The WIFI is better than most and the cable brings in many stations. My AT&T service gets full bars here. Hurray! We camped at Clute Park Campground (W W Clute Memorial Park) in a Travel Trailer.

As others have mentioned, location is the main draw for this RV Park. It is an easy walk to Walmart or into town, and across the street is a small park right on the lake. We walked our dog there daily and he loved to get wet at the little beach. The RV park itself we found to be rather cramped and unattractive. It's basically rows of RVs on a grassy field with not much spacing between them (though we have definitely seen smaller sites elsewhere). They have lines spray painted on the grass and you need to park within those lines. Unfortunately for us, staying within the lines meant the front/side of our motorhome was smushed into the tree on our site. We had someone trim a few branches so we could open our door, but we couldn't open our awning at all. Our fire ring was all the way at the front of the site, right next to the road, which was strange. Most of the sites are occupied by semi-permanent trailers and fifth wheels (and a few mobile homes) that appear to get intermittent use (e.g. weekend visits). The WiFi worked decently during the day, and we had strong Verizon and AT&T for evenings and weekends. Given the high price ($55 daily or $47 weekly) we found that the "near town" location didn't make up for the averageness of the campsites/campground. If you really want to be walking distance from town and don't mind somewhat cramped sites, this may be a good option. We camped at Clute Park Campground (W W Clute Memorial Park) in a Motorhome.

If location is your first priority, this is the place to stay. Friendly staff, reasonable prices, next to a beautiful park on the lake, walk to Walmart, quiet, clean, dry wood for campfires so no smoke, pet friendly, level sites. No real negatives. They do have lots of seasonal people and the spaces are a little snug if you have several big rigs in a row but we loved the location and the peaceful quiet at night so we will return.
