Beautiful park. No individual site water. Hard to back in the camper. Angle of most sites seem to be in the opposite direction of what they should be. Be prepared to drive the wrong direction in order to back in correctly. We camped at Watkins Glen State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Watkins Glen State Park is a beautiful park at the south end of Seneca Lake, in the Finger Lakes region of New York. The park is centered around a beautiful gorge that would be a mistake to miss, and the Finger Lakes area is the wine region of New York. It reminds me very much of a woodsy Napa or Sonoma. The campground is huge, about 300 widely spaced sites cut into the forest. Every site is pretty much in full shade all day. Sites in the Mohawk loop have 30 amp electric. The entire campground has occasional water spigots, and there are two dump stations. Sites are gravel and dirt. Most of the sites that are intended for RV's are fairly level, but this isn't universal. A problem with a number of the sites is that the trees make it hard to maneuver. We have a small class C, and had some difficulty wrapping our motorhome around one particular tree to get into the site (90). The roads are in similar condition. Big rigs might be able to get in, but it will be a challenge. AT&T service was good enough to stream video. Verizon was good enough for email, but that's about all. We camped at Watkins Glen State Park in a Motorhome.

This was a last minute overnight stop as we were trying to dodge rainstorms. Tried calling ahead and could never get through, but there were 4 sites left in the electric loop when we arrived. We chose #68 because it was so private but was pretty unlevel. Some sites were very spacious and some seemed very crowded, although all are shaded. We are in a 21' Class B so navigating the loop was no problem but I could see that bigger rigs may have trouble with the twisty-turny roads. There were water usage restrictions due to flooding in all of Watkins Glen (not just the park) so we did not use the restrooms. Great upper gorge hiking trails but the Gorge Trail is beyond beautiful! All can be accessed from the campground loop next door. We camped at Watkins Glen State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a beautiful state park close to all the delicious wineries. The only problem is that the sites and roads are tight. A very quiet park. We camped at Watkins Glen State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We arrived without a reservation but they had a site available. The park ranger was helpful. The campsites are roomy but not private. We had to move after day 1 to a different non-reserved site. Some sites are laid out with difficult back-in access but no problems if nose first. Quiet. Very close to the town but still feels remote. Electric only. We camped at Watkins Glen State Park in a Motorhome.

This state park is conveniently located near the village of Watkins Glen. We found the sites quite spacious although not terribly private. The bathrooms really needed cleaning. The area is beautiful, but this park would benefit with more maintenance (both daily and long-term). We camped in a loop without electricity. Tips for other Campers:

Hiking the Gorge is beautiful, but try to do it early in the day before the guided tours start. Lots of great wineries and craft breweries around Seneca Lake. You can drive around the whole lake in 2-3 hours, depending on how often and how long you stop. I'd skip the town(?) of Geneva: pretty dead on a Tuesday afternoon.

Memorial Day May 30, 2016 Site 99 Tuesday/Wed May 31 and June 1 Watkins Glen is located on Seneca Lake with the State Park right in town on the west side. Cute town and on the Finger Lakes Seneca Wine Trail. The international race way was just west of the park and you could hear them warming up on some mornings but it was not a problem. This campground was rated one of the top five in the Nation last year and I could see why. There are six camping loops with only one Mohawk Village having electric. Bath houses were clean and there were two showers in each one. There is a dump station, water fill, playgrounds, picnic tables, fire pits and trails from the Onondaga Village loop to the Gorge itself. If you are camping your pass is good for parking in town at the Gorge entrance and for the swimming pool within the campground which is huge. There is an Inn in the park as well. There are trails and they are very hilly. Pets are allowed in the camping loops (with proof of rabies) and on many trails but not on the Gorge Trail. The two trails on the rim are allowed for walking pets and there are two small bridges that connect to the Gorge Trail. We were in the electric loop and there were many huge sites which a large RV could fit. Our loop was very quiet during the day and most nights. Walking from the entrance to the loops is all up hill. The park itself is beautiful and everyone should see part of the Gorge. In the summer for a fee shuttles from the main entrance in the village will take you to the top so that you only have to walk down. There are many waterfalls (19-24) along the Gorge Trail. In the village there are shops, restaurants and a beautiful park for picnicking, parking, boating and there might be some swimming . Seneca Lake has a wine trail with about 19 wineries on the east side and over 29 on the west side. The Finger Lake region is beautiful with rolling hills and t. We camped at Watkins Glen State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Walking the Gorge is a must. You go up a campground loop and connect to it. Pets can not walk on the Gorge trail but on the upper rim trails which do look down on spots of the Gorge. There are two connections to the Gorge trail where you can stand with your pet and look up and down.

Beautiful park with wonderful scenic hike through slot canyon gorge. Park is older, needs some trees trimmed and some removed. Trees on the CG roads require 90 degree turn into sites and not wide enough to maneuver tow vehicle. Little maintenance at sites, ie: cig butts. Very busy with many campers partying, music and lots of smoke from campfires. We camped at Watkins Glen State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Very large sites with plenty of shade. Nice restrooms/showers. We camped in a Class C so we come and go with our unit. Left for a few hours and when we returned our chairs, table and camp wood was stolen. Very disappointed that a fellow camper would do this in a state park. Great park. Stayed in the loop with electric. Some sites can be tricky with bigger rigs. Stayed here in a 26' RV and had no problems. Bathrooms were nice with fully tiled showers which appeared fairly new. Staff was very helpful. Had a large limb come down in a storm between sites. Staff came the next day with a lift to cut it down. Pool is nice with plenty of room. Best is that town is at bottom of hill with great restaurants and a Supercenter Walmart. Plenty to do in area. We camped at Watkins Glen State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We were really looking forward to camping here and enjoying the gorge and falls, but were really disappointed with the campground overall. The restrooms/shower houses were absolutely filthy and disgusting. This campground has a lot of potential but is poorly run in my opinion. The swimming pool is very nice and large which was a plus. And the gorge and falls were really neat to see. But it gets very crowded in the campground and surrounding areas. Been there, done that, and won't be back (at least to this park). We camped at Watkins Glen State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a very nice park. We like wooded, shady campsites, and that is what you get here. We stayed in site 91 on the Mohawk Trail loop. Our motorhome is 33 ft, and the sites on the electric loop limit to 30, but we were able to fit. The trick is in getting into the sites, as the sites themselves are plenty roomy. The roads are narrow with lots of mature trees. For some reason the direction they have you take onto the loop puts you at the opposite angle for backing into the site. We were there during the week with little traffic so we went the other way on the loop each time we returned from an outing, and it made it much easier to back in. There were no "one way" signs, so we felt okay about doing that. Hiking the gorge is a MUST - and bring your camera. We also had a boat tour of Seneca Lake from Capt. Bill's - dogs can go for free! Also visited the Corning Museum of Glass - highly recommend! Pool was nice and also free. Another plus was the 2 parking lots at the entrance to the park. As campers we had free use of the lots which was so handy since we do not tow. We could drive the motorhome down and park in the lot then explore town, etc. from there. We camped at Watkins Glen State Park in a Motorhome.

This was our second visit to this campground. (The last was at least 15 years ago!) It was well maintained, and in a lovely, shaded area with mature trees. While the electric loop was full, it was very quiet. We hiked the gorge trail and visited the nearby Corning Museum of Glass. The pool was large and clean and there was a large playground by the pool as well as another in the campground. We would camp here again. We camped at Watkins Glen State Park in a Travel Trailer.
