Very disappointed with this military CG! Not only did they raise the price by $8 a night because of "graduation week", the bathrooms needed updating and cleaning, the grass was overgrown, the "sites" were not well defined. No wifi. No sewer. No cable although over air got a few channels. Laundry room had both dryers "out of order" for 2 days as the man with the "keys" was off! All back-in sites! We camped at Round Pond Recreation Area (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

West Point is a very pristine military academy and definitely worth the visit. The town of Highland Falls (which supports West Point) is very quaint and very friendly. Great hardware store as well as a great wine store! Not far away in New Windsor is the Purple Heart Hall of Honor and most definitely worth the drive - about 30 minutes.

This place earns a 5 star for location; however, the sites were designed for 20' travel trailers. That being said, the sites are not well organized or standardized and definitely not very level. You never know which side the power pedestal and water hookup will be located. When it rains, puddles are everywhere because of the lack of even gravel. The laundry room and showers were dirty and didn't appear to be truly cleaned for months. And since there is no sewer hookup at the sites, you are forced to use the facilities. No WiFi and cell coverage is spotty, which is common for the area. If I were the Commander of USAG West Pont and the USMA, I would almost be embarrassed that this place is associated with the school that produces some of the finest engineers in the world. We camped at Round Pond Recreation Area (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Very winding steep hill getting in, but we managed fine with our 42.5' fifth. The campground itself is a one-way street, but there was no way we could have exited the campground going the proper way on the loop. When we left, we had to go the wrong way, which worked fine, as it wasn't busy. We were disappointed in that the couple of washing machines were all broken (laundry room completely locked). Additionally, even though campground was open another week beyond our reservation, they stopped honey wagon service during our stay, without announcement on their website or to those who had reservation. They shut it down because that's what they decided to do, not because the honey wagon was broken. Wish we had known that when we made reservations (8 days there, family of 5...need a honey wagon if no sewer). While the other sites were nice, ours was in a dirt parking lot right by the bathrooms. It made for easy in and out, but not so much for aesthetics or privacy. The park itself was beautiful and quiet. We loved visiting in the fall, with the warm days and crisp nights. Would stay there again, but would make sure to ask questions next time about the amenities. We camped at Round Pond Recreation Area (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice park. Beware of the road off 293 that goes up to the actual park. I'm from the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina and a windy road to me is different than a windy road to most other people. This road is windy in anybody's book. It climbs at a pretty steep grade and has some tight turns. Now, this isn't meant to scare anyone off because it is absolutely doable. You just need to be aware of it and stay in a low gear. We are a 40' fiver with a beast of a dually truck so about 60' total and we didn't have a problem.

Now, about the park. It is laid out around a pond. It is pretty and laid out in such a way that there is plenty of elbow room for each RV. No crowding. It is quiet and some shady sites and some open spots. I have almost no problem with park at all except 2 things: lack of sewer hook up. (I'm spoiled and like my full hookup). There is a honey wagon that comes around each day and for $8 he will pump you out. Water & electric were fine. And we had almost no cell signal for hotspot, but we could make phone calls - go figure. We wouldn't hesitate to go back. We camped at Round Pond Recreation Area (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This is not a great military campground in our opinion. It is located off base and up a steep hill with switchbacks and speed bumps. There were big rigs down in the full hook up flat part of the campground but they still had to deal with the narrow road and steep curves. Verizon cell and hot spot did not work well. Bathrooms are a long way from the tent pop up site. Laundry machines were $1.75 to wash and $1.00 to dry. There were only 2 machines each and one washer did not work but was not marked as broken. Parties are held in the campground and people were everywhere blocking road access. We did have a nice view of the lake. The campground does not sell ice because their ice machine was broken and so was the change machine in the laundry. The water lines to our site ran along the top of the ground. The Commisarry and Exchange were easy to find. We would not stay here again. We camped at Round Pond Recreation Area (Military FamCamp) in a Tent Trailer.

Stayed at this campground for 2 days while visiting friends and touring West Point. Campground is very nice. Pretty quiet, except when large groups having gatherings. However, the gatherings didn't bother us as they were over in the early evening. You can also hear firing ranges in the distance up until about 10 pm. However, having served in the Army for over 26 years, we were use to hearing firing on nearby ranges and it didn't bother us.\ at all. We had sort of missed the noise from the past. The camp staff were very friendly and helpful. Our site (C-9) was close to others but not a problem. The restroom was close to us which we did use. It was very clean. We would stay here during another visit to this area. We camped in a class C motorhome. We camped at Round Pond Recreation Area (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Lots of history in the area. You can rent paddle boats and canoes. Cabins and Lodges available. Short drives to so much history in any direction you go: Bear Mountain State Park, Sleepy Hollow, Fort Montgomery and of course West Point!

We stayed here for a weekend in July so we could tour West Point. The positives about the campground are that it's a very pretty facility that surrounds a large pond. The bathrooms were fairly modern and clean, the staff was friendly, and the sites were roomy. It was just a few minutes from West Point so it was perfect for our purposes. Unfortunately, as much as we liked the positives, the negatives were also substantial. First off, the campground is right next to several artillery ranges. We heard gunfire and heavy artillery almost non-stop from 7 AM until late in the evening (at least 10:30 some nights). Although we thought it was rather funny and part of the ambiance, if you have kids that are light sleepers or dogs afraid of fireworks or thunder, rethink coming here. Also, we were at a site at the back side of the pond which was very tight to park in. We had to make a 90 degree turn into a driveway with a fence on each side, and a sheer drop down the side of a hill on the other side of the road. Also, the bathrooms were a very long walk down a narrow road for the few sites that were past it. The dump station was near the bathrooms and the road around the campground is one-way, so if you are in the sites past it, you need to actually leave the campground and come back in to use the dump station on the way out (and back in to it!). Next, we thought we'd be fine using our own facilities for the weekend since the web site states that they have honey wagon service for $5. When we showed up, however, we were told that it was actually $8, and only offered on Fridays and Mondays. Doesn't do weekenders a lot of good. Lastly, as others have mentioned, the road into the campground is very steep and very winding. We camped at Round Pond Recreation Area (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

This is a really nice setting on a small mountain lake, some distant artillery and firing range noise during the day. Verizon wireless phone coverage was good but data connection is slow. Great for visiting West Point. No swimming pool, but they have a nice swimming beach. Access road maybe intimidating to some, but presented no problems for 36 footer with toad (53 ft total). We would definitely stay again. We camped at Round Pond Recreation Area (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

A return visit for us. Nice, no frills campground but not near anything. Steep and windy entrance. Big rigs need to be careful of the s-turns. We used the campground as a "base" to visit New York City (55 miles) and to do laundry. We would stay here again. We camped at Round Pond Recreation Area (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

Nice campground, but the road up to it can be a challenge for larger RVs. Site areas are not marked and staff not very helpful in ensuring you know where to go. The CG is beautiful with a mountain lake setting and lots of activities to include lake swimming, volleyball and hiking. If we were to return to the West Point area we would stay again. Nice campground and a good place to spend a few days. No satellite TV access but local channels off our digital antenna was adequate. The facility is relatively old but it is in very good shape and well care for. The drive up to the campground off the highway was fairly steep but the road is recently paved and we had no trouble towing our Honda in our 40' motorhome. The office personnel were friendly and efficient and it was no trouble getting into our campsite. The campsite could have been cramped but it was only 1/2 full. It again was adequate and we had a nice view of the lake. The campground was very convenient for spending the day at West Point touring the grounds and seeing the terrific museums on campus. We would stay here again. We camped at Round Pond Recreation Area (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Campground was adequate. The drive up and down to/from the highway and campground was about as steep as I want to try. However, the road was recently re-paved, and it was no problem. The staff was efficient, and we had no issues with our time at the campground. The campsite was in a large gravel U-shaped area that we had to back into at a diagonal, but we did that with no problem. We had a view of the lake. We were there to see the USMA at West Point and the campground served its purpose. We would do it again. We camped at Round Pond Recreation Area (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.
