We stayed here for a week while seeing the area. Very nice owners. Right on Lake Champlain. Site was nice-long and level, spacious, good. Everything neat and orderly, well maintained. Laundry convenient. Not a lot to do in the area and no stores nearby. Wifi and cell signal weak. Quiet place to relax-no tv. Went to Ft. Ticonderoga and saw a reenactment and took the ferry to Burlington to the Shelburne Museum-interesting. We camped at Barber Homestead Park in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 6 nights and paid $38/night. No tax. If you pay for 6 nights, you get the 7th free but unfortunately we couldn't stay the full 7 nights. Reservation process was easy and check-in efficient. We were led to our site, which was level and spacious. We recommend to unhook your toad by the office. All hookups worked perfectly. WiFi was better than most campgrounds. Verizon cell and Verizon data service worked well. We had a clear sky for DirecTV signal. We found this campground to be a slice of heaven. The owners are lovely. There are many seasonals. By "seasonal", I'm referring to folks who live within a few hours and keep a camper here for use as a summer home. All campers are clean and well-kept, including pretty flowers and landscaping. Everyone is super friendly and helpful. There is a large grassy area for volleyball, badminton, etc (equipment is free to use). We enjoyed the beautiful grounds and our partial view of Lake Champlain. Barber Homestead was exactly what we needed at exactly the right time. We're so glad to have discovered it and would love to return one day (and next time we'll stay much longer!). Highly recommend. We camped at Barber Homestead Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The immediate area is perfect for running or cycling with beautiful views in nearly every direction. Drivers seem to be courteous and most roads aren't busy. Delicious coffee and yummy ice cream along with friendly faces can be found at Essex Ice Cream in Essex. We received excellent care on an emergency 4th of July visit at Adirondack Veterinary Hospital in Westport.

The campground owners did an excellent job in reserving our site and making sure everything was to our satisfaction. There are various full-timers and seasonal folks, and they were the friendliest I've ever met. Had a great time at their community bonfire (nice small gathering). This CG is next to Lake Champlain so it has some beautiful views from nearby trails, has very little noise from children (no offense to parents), and is very clean and well maintained. They've been around 21 years! Sites were level and spacious, and easy to get in and out. Perfect place to stay to explore the Adirondacks! We camped at Barber Homestead Park in a Motorhome.

We were in a 40 ft motorhome. One tight turn that the owner explained how to best navigate, otherwise easy to drive. Very clean, helpful owners. Site was fairly level and noticed the sites were leveled with a grader as people left the park. It's about one half hour drive to Ticonderoga and the ferry. Pretty views on Lake Champlain. Quiet area, no cable but good satellite reception. Verizon hot spot worked well. Would stay here again. We camped at Barber Homestead Park in a Motorhome.

We chose this campground based on the excellent reviews written about it earlier this year. It did not disappoint us. We were allowed to choose the site we wanted then escorted to our site by the owners. During the process of setting up, the other owner stopped by to introduce herself and welcome us to their campground. Everything is clean, well taken care of, the owners are friendly and helpful, it is very pet friendly. the campground is beautiful and right on the banks of Lake Champlain. We liked it so well, we are planning to return for a week next year. We camped at Barber Homestead Park in a Motorhome.

Wonderful family-owned and operated quaint, secluded park in the Adironacks. Park sits on the shores of Lake Champlain, and the lake is easily accessed by a short hike down stairs or along a forested path. Lake can be seen in the distance from camp.

Some sites are packed gravel, but others are dirt or grass. Our site was packed gravel and quite level. Electricity was reliable and water pressure good. Wifi was adequate, although it slowed down a little in the evening with heavier use.

The owners schedule activities throughout the season, and there is a nightly community fire. The majority of campers are seasonals, but each and every site is well maintained and clean.

We enjoyed this campground so much that we extended our stay an additional 2 weeks. Very friendly, family atmosphere where everyone knows one another. Definitely an unknown gem! We WILL return next time we're in this neck of the woods! We camped at Barber Homestead Park in a Motorhome.

Great park, our new favorite. Quiet and secluded with some waterfront on Lake Champlain (walk down a short shady path). Family owned and run park. Well maintained, restrooms and showers are always spotless. Owners are polite and friendly and will go out of their to help a camper in need. The campground hosts a fire every night. Quite a few sites are occupied by weekend seasonal campers, so the park is pretty empty during the week. The seasonal sites are well done with 11- 15 miles to the nearest grocery store or Walmart. Kid activities are limited to swimming in the lake, pool or fishing. Wifi is a little slow but has a strong signal.. The owners make a point of letting you know this both verbally and in the camp brochure. We tow a 22' long trailer behind our 40' coach, so making the turn down into the main camping, where the pull throughs are located, was a little hairy which is why I gave it an overall rating of 9. The roads are hard packed gravel and make wide enough turns for a 45' rig. My wife wants to make this park our summer home when we finish exploring the northern part of the country. We camped at Barber Homestead Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed at this gorgeous small campground on our way to Maine, and it was wonderful. Our site was in a meadow and there were quite a few other campers in our area, mostly there for the weekend. On the perimeter of the CG were seasonals, all friendly and welcoming. The owner, was a charming and very helpful woman who escorted us to our site. We had 50 Amp, and cable and the WiFi was adequate. The bathrooms were immaculate !!! and very well maintained. I strongly recommend this CG to anyone traveling thru up state NY who wants some peace and quiet and a wonderful setting very near Lake Champlain and the ferry in Essex to take you east to Vermont. We camped at Barber Homestead Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The drive into Lake Placid and Wilmington was extremely scenic and on the weekend we found a few Farmers Markets that we stopped at. All in all, very nice as a base to explore the area from.

Campground is on a country road with no traffic noise and located close to lake. Road to campground use to be a dirt road but was paved in 2013. Sites are large and accommodated my 39 foot RV and tow vehicle with room to spare. Campground is very well maintained with friendly owners. Will differently camp there again. We camped at Barber Homestead Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Park is on shore of Lake Champlain, limited water access. Off of main highway, no highway or R/R noise. Good dirt road to campground. Dirt/gravel roads and sites. Sites are wide on long enough for 37' M/H with toad. Water, power good. Cell (AT&T) was weak. Limited shopping and restaurants nearby. Many seasonal campers in park. We would camp here again. We camped at Barber Homestead Park in a Motorhome.

At first glance, this park looks small and older, but we discovered that it is well maintained. The bathrooms were immaculate! Friendly owners, were awesome: gave us good information for great touring sites, a great dinning sites, and even let our dogs out to use the bathroom. We stayed for two weeks. The rate we got was for two weeks with a senior discount. We camped at Barber Homestead Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Well run family RV campground. Check-in was professional, friendly, and efficient. Owner gave us a preview tour in a golf cart and allowed us to make our own site selection. Mostly summer seasonals in park. All were quite friendly. Swimming pool small and shallow (only 1 meter deep) but clean and fun, with spacious deck to sit on. The bathroom and shower facilities were the cleanest we have ever seen in five years of camping. Toilet and lavatories are separate from completely private shower rooms. Large laundry, dish washing and reading room. Huge pavilion loaded with picnic tables, great for gatherings. Campsites are okay with space between campers, and consist of gravel. Lots of well mowed lawn, along with numerous shade trees. Electric service excellent. Outstanding Wi-Fi service, free. Picnic table and fire ring at each site. Interior roads are unpaved and during our stay, dusty. View of Lake Champlain very limited, "beach" is nothing to write home about. Good birdwatching. Recreation fields had horseshoes, volleyball, and tetherball, equipment provided. Ice cream in office, along with limited supplies. Great base of operations away from the hustle of Lake Placid and Burlington if you want a quiet campground. We would most assuredly stay here again. We camped at Barber Homestead Park in a Travel Trailer.

Awesome park. We had a pull through site with full hookups. Everything was great. The bathrooms and showers were spotless. The laundry is in the little rec room so you could watch TV while doing your laundry. We were there Mon - Thurs so didn't experience the weekend crowd. Would definitely stay here again. This campground was very quiet. The bathrooms and showers were exceptional - clean and plenty of water pressure (town water). We had a pull through site in the lower part of the campground. There were quite a few open sites. Phone coverage was spotty but the phone in the rec hall could be used with a calling card. Tent people would like this campground (if it rains) due to the large covered area with picnic tables and the recreation area is available for use. Management was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Barber Homestead Park in a Motorhome.

Nice, family-owned campground located on a family farm. Beautiful green grass between the sites, most of which are well-kept seasonals. The road from the upper level where the office is located down to the campsites is quite narrow, as are all the roads in the campground. Although we didn't use them, the bathrooms and shower rooms are immaculate! Two washers and two dryers. Walk down to a "beach" area on Lake Champlain. Hard to do when we were there as there had just been 4-6 inches of rain. Our rig was literally an island. The owners came to our aid and helped us build up a small "porch" with wooden pallets and plywood so we wouldn't step out into the ankle-deep water. Everyone at this park was friendly and helpful. Would stay again. We camped at Barber Homestead Park in a Fifth Wheel.
