The location is about 20 minutes to Lake Placid and quite a long ways off the interstate. We came in through Plattsburgh headed south on 87 and took 9N to 86. I don't normally comment on directions but I'm mentioning it specifically because the route we took avoided 12% grades on 9N through Keene and Jay. The campground is heavily wooded and quiet. Lots of walking opportunities. A great dog walk and dog park. Good cable and strong 50 amp FHU. Bathrooms were single rooms with showers and clean. The area is beautiful with lots of hiking and outdoor activities. For shopping, you'll have to head into Lake Placid for groceries or whatever you need. There's not much by the campground. Wifi was typical crappy campground speeds at about 1-2d/l. For cell hotspots, you will need your booster. - ATT unboosted was bad (1-2d/l) but boosted with Weboost we got 11d/l speeds and 2.63 u/l. Verizon was not good at 1.29 d/l with booster. We used the ATT hotspot all week and it was reliable and maintained good speeds. The site we were in was advertised as a pull thru but this was not the typical KOA quality. Roads were tight and dirt and very rutted. The site was not a pull thru it was a pull in and back out because you could not make that turn if you pulled through. The site was not level, took quite a bit of negotiating to an odd angle to get fairly level. These are things I expect for a KOA at $55 night. Minimum is level easy to navigate site. We camped at Lake Placid / Whiteface Mtn. KOA in a Motorhome.

This is a very nice KOA campground that's in a good location for Lake Placid area attractions. Level, gravel/sand sites among tall trees. Sites are fairly roomy and shaded. Amenities include pool, mini-golf, WiFi, cable TV, laundry, and more. There is a pet walking trail, and a fenced, shady, dog playground that my dogs enjoyed. We would stay here again. We camped at Lake Placid / Whiteface Mtn. KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

We LOVED this campground. We've stayed in many KOAs, and most are clean and "OK", but close to highways. This is in the beautiful Adirondack mountains, no street noise, lovely wooded campsites with plenty of space. The campground is big enough for nice walks, and there is also a lovely "dog walk" through the woods and a nice quiet dog park. It backs on the Ausable River, just below the flume, so you can also hike all along the river. A very nice "perk" for me (as the family cook) was that they serve breakfast in the lodge every morning from 8-10! We will definitely be back! We camped at Lake Placid / Whiteface Mtn. KOA in a Travel Trailer.

LOTS of hiking and fishing, shopping in Lake Placid, nearby historical sites and museums, a spectacular view from the top of Whiteface. You can drive (completely handicapped accessible) hike or ride a gondola to the top.

This is a large, beautiful campground next to the AuSable River. Campsites are set among tall trees. No highway noise. We liked it so much we extended our stay. Office staff was very helpful. We camped at Lake Placid / Whiteface Mtn. KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Great park. Very woodsy. Reminded me of State Park. Not too many people so super private. Walking trails to river. Plenty of room for big rigs. We camped at Lake Placid / Whiteface Mtn. KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a path through the woods to a road with a great restaurant across the street. Go to the river but watch out if you have kids. They also serve breakfast some days.

Nice KOA in the mountains. Only issue: it is not as "big rig" friendly as it could be. Lots of trees, and extremely tight turns. Was very hard to navigate with a 42' 5th wheel towed by a 2016 Denali 3500. Park is mostly dirt and sandy base with gravel roadways. Park has good internet but absolutely NO cell phone coverage. We camped at Lake Placid / Whiteface Mtn. KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

As with most KOA's the pull throughs are close. Well maintained and large CG -extremely busy. We were there the weekend after Labor day and they had 78 families check in on Friday. Agree with another review: get away from the front rows of pull through sites if you want some privacy. They are flat and gravel. Sites further back are more wooded and a bit sandy. The further back the more private the sites get.

Nice dog park and large enough for a lab to run around. Well maintained dog trail leading to dog park. Ohhh and pool is definitely heated. I believe it is open year round.

The only down fall was (I believe) were the campfires. I love campfires as much as anyone but this particular weekend everyone must have had campfires (we did not). Because of the canopy of trees there was no where for the smoke to go and after awhile you were suffocated with smoke. The AC even pulled in smoke. There was no way you could open a window.

Lots of staff on golf carts - very helpful and friendly.

You need to disconnect if you are towing. The interior roads are tight - definitely needed a golf cart to show the way. Parking the tow vehicle was a challenge. We camped at Lake Placid / Whiteface Mtn. KOA in a Motorhome.

This is a pretty nice campground. The lodge is impressive and the staff are really great. Because we arrived Friday afternoon, they had staff coming to your vehicle to check you in and then escort you to your site. This certainly makes your arrival less stressful, trying to find parking or maneuvering. The only catch was they forgot to tell us that we then needed to return to the office to check in. No big problem, we just didn't have our hang tag for a while and we didn't know about wifi, garbage disposal, etc.

The daily breakfast is OK but a little pricey all things considered. Maybe if the coffee was included in the price it would be a good deal.

There are a couple of playgrounds (we don't have small kids so can't speak to its quality). There's an arcade that looks like it's pretty fun if you have quarters but the pool table is pretty run down (one functional cue, battered balls). There's a pool that we didn't go in because it was packed. If we'd stayed longer we would have tracked down a beach instead.

We found the sites small and very exposed compared to state/provincial parks. But the neighbors were pretty considerate (we were in the cheap seats around the loop so there were lots of little children). The bathhouses have kitchens where you can cook (stovetop only) or wash your dishes.

The biggest downside was the dust. The roads and sites are very dusty and this tracks everywhere, particularly the bathhouses, and turns to mud on the floors. They mop a couple of times each day but don't dry the floors, which results in a slurry for your pant cuffs to soak up. It rained the morning we were leaving and that turned the site to dirt soup. It was a very messy pack up - everything inside was dusty and outside was muddy. Our friends were over in the full service sites and it was a dust bowl. We camped at Lake Placid / Whiteface Mtn. KOA in a Tent Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Adirondak Wildlife Rescue 5 minutes away really great. There are easy walking trails around the area. Whiteface Mountain Memorial Highway 10 minute drive away. If you walk to the summit instead of taking the elevator, wear well-soled shoes. The trail is exposed granite, extremely uneven and often slippery. Lake Placid 25 minutes from the campground with plenty of hike/bike trails and things to do on the way. The town is lovely but very busy so don't plan to park along the main street.

Really enjoyed our stay at this large and well maintained park. Lots of level sites for larger rigs. Lots of smaller RVs, pop ups and tents also. Nice pool, playground. Lots of shade, forest. Hiking trail to river with falls and flume. Dog hiking trail and small dog park. Good hookups. Wifi fair, but no ATT cell. Rained all day one day. Not really muddy. More like wet sand. Close to Whiteface Mtn drive and not far from Lake Placid. One of the nicest KOAs we've been to. We camped at Lake Placid / Whiteface Mtn. KOA in a Motorhome.

This campground is a destination because it is quite a trek off I-87. The roads are fine even for a big rig (45). It's a very popular campground so be sure you have reservations. Sites are level dirt/gravel and the surrounding area is dirt. Vehicles going by stir up the dust. Lots of trees so no satellite but good cable. With that being said it is a very pleasant campground with ample space between sites. Lots of tent areas. WES all fine. Picnic table and fire ring. Lots of activities for kids, breakfast served daily and a snack bar. Nice pool and playground and bathrooms were very clean. River runs along side the campground. Staff very helpful. Wifi worked surprisingly well. Would return to enjoy the area more thoroughly. We camped at Lake Placid / Whiteface Mtn. KOA in a Motorhome.

Hungry Trout Restaurant is close by with good trout dishes and great view of Whiteface Mountain. Staff is exceptionally helpful. If you're here on a Sunday, be sure to go to the church service run by college students. Very encouraging. Some turns are tight for 45 rig but doable.

A very large campground with all the typical KOA services. Looks like they try to make improvements every year.
We selected a premium site which included a cement patio and gravel for the camper to park on. Most of the other sites only have dirt and as others have said will become muddy when it rains.
I would recommend the premium sites as the are quite comfortable. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Lake Placid / Whiteface Mtn. KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Lovely, large, wooded sites. The best thing about this campground is the Ausable River running behind it. Just a short walk and you hit cliffs and hear the roaring waterfall (be careful not to fall - it is steep). Just a ways down from that is a great swimming spot, with pools of water to relax in, rocks to climb, and small cliffs to jump off of. A super spot on a hot day. The lodge at the campground is beautiful, bathrooms are clean, good dog walk area and the staff hustles! The pool needs updating and they need to add a hot tub and biking area. But, that really isn't the draw - it is the area. Go to Whiteface and go up the gondala - worth the money! We camped at Lake Placid / Whiteface Mtn. KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Great campground, just get away from the front rows of pull through sites if you want some privacy. They are flat and gravel. Sites further back are more wooded and a bit sandy. The further back the more private the sites get.

Lots of staff golf carts going around, but that means they are out cleaning and helping people out. Beautiful setting in the trees and a great path to hike by the waterfalls. This is our go to when we want full service in the region. I was solo camping and they were very friendly escorting me to my site, helping guide me parking as well as letting me know which cable hookup to use.

Well stocked store for all your needs. We camped at Lake Placid / Whiteface Mtn. KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Nice park in the process of being fixed up. Lots of shade trees. It didn't rain while we were there but if it did it would be a muddy mess. Big camp building if needed for a group gathering. Lots for kids to do with pool and game room. Friendly manager and camp host. We would stay again if in the area. We camped at Lake Placid / Whiteface Mtn. KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Great park. The nicest KOA we have been to thus far. Staff are polite and knowledgeable. The " lodge " is a fabulous place to relax by the fireplace or just hang out. Sites are level and spacious with services in the correct locations. WiFi is strong and usable. Their snack bar food is very good as is the weekend fresh cooked breakfast in the lodge. Close to Lake Placid and a lot of attractions. We will return as often as possible. We camped at Lake Placid / Whiteface Mtn. KOA in a Motorhome.
