Nice state park, although it would have been nicer to have a water spigot at the site where we camped. The spot was a little difficult to get in, because of a stump we had to back over, that stuck up a few inches, but we still got in without too much trouble. Electricity worked fine, even when a thunderstorm blew through. Sites had decent separation between them, but closer than we have seen in other state parks. Lots to do - a swimming pool, boat ramp into the lake, kayak and boat rentals, a nice little museum on site, Morrow Mountain scenic views interesting history of why it was a popular site for native Americans even 10,000 years ago. We were surprised it wasn't at a higher elevation ("mountain" to me something over 4,500 feet). Morrow Mountain was supposedly an ancient mountain that had eroded away, so it wasn't much over 1,000' elevation. Friendly host - came to check on us about the time we were unhooking. Lot was level, and barely long enough for the 37' 5th wheel and dually. We camped at Morrow Mountain State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Plenty of shopping and good restaurants in Albemarle. Off the Square Restaurant was excellent. Also ate breakfast at the Donut Diner. The breakfast was excellent, and the chocolate iced doughnut was the best doughnut I have EVER had in my life. Visit Badin, NC and the museum there. This was a town built to process aluminum, and the museum there (created by a retired ALCOA employee) is excellent and fascinating.

We stayed in Family Campground Loop C for 3 nights. There is no check in to your campsite. Just drive to the campsite and set up. The camp host will come to you. Not all the sites would be easy for us to get into. The restrooms were down the hill requiring an uphill climb to return to our trailer. The park was full while we were there yet we barely knew it as the sights are very spacious. The water spigot was conveniently located. The camp host drove his golf cart through the campgrounds frequently with wood for sale. There is lots to do here with trails, the museum and the vista at the top of the mountain. This is one of our favorite campgrounds and we will certainly return. We camped at Morrow Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Do not attempt to drive up to the vista pulling a trailer or with a larger RV. There are hairpin turns and narrow roads with no shoulder and drop offs. There are no warning signs. Making a wrong turn heading up the mountain might require you to back down. Use caution.

To date this is my favorite NC state park. There is lots to do in the park. The view from the mountain was great and there is a nice loop trail to take at the top. Lots of trails overall, nice waterfront, canoe rental, historic sites and a pool (closed while we were there, but looked decent). The campground was nice, one of the few NC parks with some electric sites (only a few) but nice sites. My only issues were the bathhouse was fairly far from our site and there was a big hill up & down between us (could not tell on a 2D map) and they said the host could assist us with getting firewood but we could never find a host. I am busy trying out new parks but I would like to return here sometime, maybe in the fall. We camped at Morrow Mountain State Park in a Tent Trailer.

High voltage keeps tripping our surge protector. Only 23 sites have electric, loop C. Many sites are not level and really not suitable for a motorhome over 25 - 30 feet. Narrow park road into campground with no shoulder in one part. Heavily treed. Didn't use the bathrooms so don't know about those. Don't think we will come back due to power and level issues. Got handicapped site and fire ring and picnic table on wrong site. Had to park towed car across the road from site (so unable to plug in mobility scooter at night in the car). No real room to use scooter in site - have to go around gravel area to get to patio. We camped at Morrow Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a nice park however I was disappointed with the electric feed. North Carolina State Parks often do not have hookups so I was happy to find that there was electric hookup at this park. I had a nice pull thru site but then the trouble with the electricity started. The feed was set too high - 127 volts with spikes and as a result my unit kept tripping. I also had the error message the AC had Reverse Polarity, which I've been told means some wires were crossed during installation. Not a critical error on my panel board but perhaps part of the overall problem. I gave up trying to resolve the issue and just turned the power off. Park staff told me feed into the system had been elevated to accommodate the sites further away from the control box. I'm not an electrician but if this configuration was installed to save money on the installation then it might hurt in the end. The staff member said they get a lot of complaints about the electric hookups. Maybe they should install multiple control boxes over the park area and bring the load feed down. I doubt if I will return for a multi night stay but may return for one night. We camped at Morrow Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

I wrote a review last November pointing out the low power voltage. In our stay this year, I discovered the voltage was normal. The camp host told us they worked on the electrical service earlier this year. Apparently they fixed the problem. We camped at Morrow Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Pros:

Beautiful state park

Cheap

Quiet

Cons (All of these I was aware of except the first upon arrival):

No water at site

No sewer hookup

No Wi-Fi

No cable

Site not level at all; do not get Site #100

If you are not into glamping you will love this place. If you like the woods and shade this is the place for you. If you have a boat, bring it. The place is nice. I will be back. We camped at Morrow Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

My wife and I stayed here for a weekend, having stayed here last year. We stayed in Loop C, which is the electric loop. This is a beautiful campground, and the fall foliage added to the ambiance. There is no water at each individual site, so we went prepared for that. The bath house in Loop C is heated, which was nice this time of year. We enjoyed the hiking trails very much. Loop C is not quite as nice looking as the two non-electric loops, but it is still nice.

My only complaint of the services at Morrow Mountain is the low voltage at the sites. We stayed on two different sites the past two years, and the voltage has varied from 99 to 110 volts. Anything below 105 can damage your a/c unit. So be careful if you are there in the warmer months. Fortunately, we didn't need a/c in November. We camped at Morrow Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This was our first time camping at Morrow Mountain and we enjoyed a fun Easter Weekend with two other families. The sites were spacious with nice pads, fire grates, lamp posts, and picnic tables. We were close enough together to share meals, but far enough apart not to hear conversations. One of the sites was difficult to navigate due to trees, so I needed to move my pop-up to allow our friends with a 32' TT to back in to the site. Power was adequate for our needs and provided multiple plug-ins. The bath house was clean and stocked, but a walk from our sites. Water spigots were located throughout the campground. The state park has a beautiful pool (built by the CCC) available in the summer, a lake front with boat rentals and concessions, and great hiking. The deer made daily visits and were enjoyed by all. We camped at Morrow Mountain State Park in a Tent Trailer.

This was an awesome campground. We were very happy with the large shady sites. Our site # 82 felt very private even though it was pretty close to the bath house. This is a great park with lots to do. The camp hosts were friendly and kept a good eye on things, but not too intrusive. Our site was ADA accessible and we choose it because it had a paved park area. The bathrooms were okay. What you expect from a state park. Dump area was easily accessible with potable water. We camped at Morrow Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.
