Super nice people. Tight for a 36'. Bring your tow or bikes, it is a little far to beach and town. We had our bikes so we had fun with those. Kind of far from town and it was very hot so if we had of stayed longer probably would have been a little bored. Sewer hookup is 45°, drains only fair. Would go back but only for a short period. We camped at Sands of Time Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We stayed here as a base for exploring Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The CG is off the beaten path in the Village of Avon (Kinnakeet) and is quiet. Without a pool, playground or other activities it is excellent for mature campers. The seasonal sites are scattered throughout and are well kept. Staff and service are excellent! Friendly and helpful. Shopping and services are close by. Access to the beaches and Pamlico Sound are a short bicycle ride or walk away. (5/15, respectively) We will stay here again! We camped at Sands of Time Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

This early in the year, the water temperature was warmer in the Sound (71F) v. the ocean (60F). Go spend an afternoon at Haulover Day Use Area (Canadian Hole) and watch the wind- and kite-surfers! We didn't take a beach umbrella as it was VERY breezy. Definitely take the free ferry to Ocracoke Island a spend a day there. Terrific shops, restaurants and beaches. No vehicle traffic except for ferry times!

NOTE: Cash Only! Friendly and accommodating staff an older park with ongoing upgrades including new pavement and restroom/shower upgrades. We have visited 3 of the last 5 years in October (missed 2 due to hurricanes). Everything works and you are convenient to beach, fishing pier and windsurfing. Quiet comfortable place to get away from hustle and bustle in the Fall. As with most places on the Outer Banks, MOSQUITOES can be a problem, come prepared. We camped at Sands of Time Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Pier and surf fishing. Bring it if you NEED it. While there are stores and services available in Avon, if you have special needs, bring those things with you, you are a long way from major towns out here so come prepared or face a significant trip to fing uncommon stuff.

Overall Rating:

The PA rate requires an extra charge for electricity billed at 15 cents per KWH (for our 50 amp, all electric coach, we used just under 1 KWH per hour or $12.75 for our 4 night stay.) The entrance is fairly narrow and there are some tree branches hanging over several of the roadways. The site was spacious with utilities toward the rear. The sewer connection is strange, tilled up with a 45 degree bend from a mostly horizontal pipe. The bathrooms and showers are dated, but in good shape and clean. Would stay here again if in the area. We camped at Sands of Time Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Avon is quite a ways down from Kill Devil Hill and the activity in that area, but it is very close to Cape Hatteras, the Ocracoke Island Ferry (free!) and plenty of beaches in between. Food Lion, ACE Hardware and several restaurants in Avon, as well as some very good seafood markets. Lots of construction on Route 12 on the way down as they are building new bridges and roadways along the way.

We called at the last minute and they were able to accommodate us for two nights. Very friendly, easy to park. The internet is rather slow. The showers are older but very clean. A quiet park as well. We camped at Sands of Time Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This is a good place to stay on the Outer Banks if you like an old time feel. It is very convenient to Rout 12, and Avon is a bit low key compared to the towns to the north. The facility is kept clean and is fairly quiet, which we appreciated. The restrooms and showers were clean but old. The owners are around and friendly and helpful. It's a short bike ride to the ocean or the sound. No campfires, and an add-on charge for electricity. Business is done in cash. We would consider returning, but we really liked Ocracoke and would head for the National Park campground there in the future. We camped at Sands of Time Campground in a Travel Trailer.

By all means, take the free ferry to Ocracoke and eat at Howard's. If you are there in the summer season, be ready for crowds.

We have stayed here a few times because of the location in Avon and it is usually quiet. This year there was a wolf type dog that howled all the time and woke us up almost every day. There are also lots of cats that hang around all the time, probably because people feed them. Some of the dog owners never clean up after their dogs so you have to watch where you step. The laundry room and it washers and dryers are very questionable at best. We camped at Sands of Time Campground in a Motorhome.

Check in was fast and friendly, cash only, we used PA. We were here the first week of May, CG was not full yet. The sites are level with a mix of gravel and grass, the grounds are nicely kept up. They have metered electric, I did not use my AC and paid around $12 for 8 days. The wifi worked well, the cable tv was excellent.
We did not use any facilities or the laundry. The few seasonal units that are here are very well kept up and not an eye sore like in many other CGs.
They have several free roaming cats to keep the dogs on their toes. I will definitely come stay here again.
Restaurants in the area are very nice. We camped at Sands of Time Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This campground was a great place to stay while exploring the Outer Banks. Sites were level and had ample space between each other. Sites had full-hook ups with your choice of 30 or 50 amp. Sewer was toward the rear of the trailer, but the owner came right over and literally lengthened the sewer connection to fit our rig. It appears the owner, Ms. Gracie, can do about anything that needs to be done onsite. Some trees and shrubs made this a pretty park feel very private. Everyone was incredibly friendly. We would most definitely stay here again and again. We camped at Sands of Time Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Very convenient to exploring the islands and the little city of Avon has great walking, running, biking trails. There is a small laundry facility onsite which we did not use, but it looked to be clean and in good repair.

I didn't realize this was a Passport America camp. My bad. But then again, the camp's website doesn't mention it either. It would have gotten another star or two for the added value. Our site was tight with trees touching on both sides. Sewer connection was more than 20 feet away. Baths are dilapidated with no heat and sometimes no TP! No lights outside, so bring a flashlight. Mostly fishermen and surfers. We camped at Sands of Time Campground in a Motorhome.

Nice basic park. Sites are level but a little close together. Close to restaurants and the beach is a short drive away. The dryers did not work very well. At night, there are no lights by the bathrooms. We had lots of mosquitoes but they did come in and spray for them and this just happened to be a very wet season. Easy check-in. While we had reservations, there were plenty of sites available as we camped towards the end of the season on the Outer Banks.
Close to shopping and beaches.

Great location. We paid Passport america Price so this was great for the area. There are lots of campgrounds on the outer banks. If you want to be on the water, you can go to Nags Head area which is close to 100 dollars per night. Sands is small, quiet, the martins are great to keep away bugs. We had a great site with a tree for shade. Everything worked well. The local fish places are excellent. This is a good camp ground if you have activities planned yourself. The kids don't have a huge amount to do so if you want stuff at your CG this is not for you. Great to use as a base for surfing etc. Good TV, good cell coverage, nice friendly helpful staff and a good book exchange. We camped at Sands of Time Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a small no frills campground but very nice and very quiet and great location. Getting to and from the campground was easy as was getting in and out of the all back-in sites. The sites are dirt but level with plenty of room for your slide outs and awning. Each site has a picnic table and most no shade. We had good power on our 50 amp site but they charge by the usage even on short stays. At 15 cents per KW it was cheaper to use our propane at times. The water pressure is good and tasted good. The WI-FI did not work most of the time and the host was working on it but we did have a strong signal on our Verizon link. The cable had many channels to choose from. We would stay here again. We camped at Sands of Time Campground in a Motorhome.
