Overall Rating:

This is an old campground and many of the sites are too small for travel trailers. A tent camper might rate this campground higher than the 4 I awarded it. We had a pull-through site--about the largest on F loop--that was nothing more than a wide spot in the road. I was concerned about someone driving down the road and hitting my trailer, so I placed bright orange tape on the road side corners of my trailer which is only 22 feet and rather small by RV standards. The site was "spacious" in that it was not close to another site and plenty of room between sites, but the site size was too small. The bathroom was not clean and old. No dryers, no soap, and no paper towels. They were doing some painting and repairs to the bathrooms, so maybe they will be improved. The showers are new and in the tent camping portion of the campground. Most people would probably drive to the showers. They were nice, clean with individual rooms for each shower. The lack of sufficient showers would mean these would be very busy during the real camping season. There were only about 3-4 tent campers when we were there. The registration staff was very friendly and helpful. We were never in the campground during generator hours, so no comments on generator noise or lack of noise. The sites are shady. We had rain both days of our stay and didn't use the outside picnic table or have a campfire. Also, we did't see mice perhaps due to the rain. Deer were nearby in the morning as we left for daily fun. The Blue Ridge Parkway has so much to offer in the area, that we just used the campground for sleeping. There was no Verizon service here. The roads on F Loop are in abysmal condition. As we said, this is an old park. There are not a lot of alternative camping locations in this area, but we would not stay here again due to the size of the campground sites. We camped at Julian Price Park in a Travel Trailer.

With so much to do in the area, the campground is only for resting between adventures. The nearby town of Blowing Rock had bountiful food and plenty of sight seeing.

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

A beautiful place! Rated 7 because of nature and access to Blue Ridge Parkway, not the condition of the campsite. Campsite rating 3 or 4 (poor) because of age and lack of maintenance. We stayed on loop E. We chose to stay away from the lake where it was near 100% fully occupied the week after 4th July. No sites have hookups. Dump station, water, and trash disposal are at the ranger station/office. There are a few water sources available through out the campground to fill containers, but none for direct connect to RV. No internet, no broadcast TV, spotty cell for voice/text and no hotspot. Loop A, by the lake, has a mix of tent and RV sites. Loops B, C, and D are wooded with a mix of tent and RV, not well maintained for years. Loops B, C, D roads are TERRIBLE, missing pavement, mud covered, gullies/potholes, TERRIBLE. Loop E is RV only with a few sites clear enough for solar. Loop F is RV all wooded. There is wildlife everywhere. Deer are fairly tame and will feed in view of the campers. Some animals had a party on our roof during the night so we could not sleep - flying squirrels I think. A raccoon was on our bumper looking in the window about midnight. We picked up some hitch hikers (mice and spiders) while we were there who rode home with us. We bring our canoe. Fishing is ok, but not a lot of action on the fish's part. A fishing license is required. We camped at Julian Price Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There was no internet on my site, intermittent one bar signal cell service on my site for text/voice but no hotspot. No broadcast tv on my site. Restaurants, shopping, fuel, etc are available nearby at Boone and Blowing Rock 15 minute drive. A few sites in loop A and most of loop E are sunny enough for solar charging.

We stayed here mid-week and had our choice of several spots on the lake. We did not make a reservation. Very quiet. Lots of trees and huge shrubs. Pretty view. We camped at Julian Price Park in a Truck Camper.

Overall Rating:

We only live 30 minutes away, and have camped in this park at various times for many years. Our trips have been in Tents, Pop-ups, Trailers, and now a Class A Motorhome. As with many Federal Parks, there are no hookups although water and sewer dump facilities are available nearby. Our best memories, however, have been camping here watching Deer, Star-gazing, Canoeing, Hiking, and generally unwinding. The Boone Fork Trail meanders through the campground, and includes a five mile loop that includes some of the most beautiful creeks and waterfalls around. If you are into amenities, go somewhere else. If your objective is to commune with nature and regenerate, this is the place to be. We camped at Julian Price Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This park is just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are no hookups. The park has a nice lake, with limited sites that have a view of it. There are lots of trees, underbrush and bugs. The camp sites are small, many too small for large RV's. Otherwise, bath-house is okay, roads and sites are paved. We stayed here for 3 days. Due to small sites, them being overgrown and no services, I would look elsewhere next time. We camped at Julian Price Park in a Travel Trailer.

Rate reflects Federal Handicap Access Pass rate of half price. We stayed here 12 nights and loved it! Bring a generator unless you are like us and have 270 watts of solar! Sure you have to fetch water, dump your holding tanks, and there is no electricity but that isn't what this park is all about. It is very quiet, well spaced and simply gorgeous. Deer wandered by our camp site almost daily; we saw chipmunks scurrying about and lots of birds. Bathrooms (no showers) were nearby as were water sources. A dump station is located at the campground entrance and is easy to get to. The campground filled up on weekends and thinned out during the week. Nearby Blowing Rock is a neat place but limited. The town of Boone is 9 miles away and has everything you need. We will certainly visit here again! We camped at Julian Price Park in a Travel Trailer.

Nice campground on the Blue Ridge Parkway MM295. Most of the sites are not level. Nice lake to canoe and several hiking trails that loop around property. No showers and the bathroom has cold water only. We camped at Julian Price Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This National Park Service campground is located in the Julian Price Memorial Park about 4 miles west of Blowing Rock, NC on the Blue Ridge Parkway. No hookups but several water faucets are located throughout the campground and a dump station is located near the entrance. Most sites are suitable for tents, small popups and class C RVs. Only a few sites can handle large motorhomes and fifth wheels. A few back-in sites could handle my 33’ fifth wheel but I would have to park my tow vehicle in an overflow parking area. About half of the sites can be reserved and the rest are first-come-first-served. Loop A is located on the south side of the parkway on the shore of Price Lake and about 12 of these sites are waterfront. Near loop A is a boat ramp and canoe rental ($6 per hour). The campground was neat and very woodsy and the trees may be a problem for satellite TV reception. This is a very nice National Park Service campground but since it offers no hookups and few amenities, I rate it a 7. We camped at Julian Price Park in a Fifth Wheel.
