It's a small property but tucked away next to a bubbling creek shrouded under cozy, fragrant balsams and pretty camping cabins nearby. The reasonably priced overnight RV slot (20/30, water) was very accessible to both the office and bath house that was new, clean and readily accessible. I immediately realized I'd stayed here 17 years ago; my stay was as favorable then as now. Everyone -- guests and proprietors alike -- were genuinely friendly and welcoming, a final touch rare these days. We camped at Flintlock Campground in a Tent Trailer.

very friendly front desk check in. Only one way in or out and its a tight S turn and very steep all the way to the road. Sites were OK, all gravel, small concrete slab, a little close and your tow vehicle must park on the drive in front. Lots of shade, but road noise is bad! Good local, only 6 miles to town. Because the sites are close together the fire ring is close to neighbors, we were concerned enough to not use it. We camped at Flintlock Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Know exactly where the entry road is before you come here the first time. Westbound slow down and put your turn signal on when you get to the Hot Tubs sign.

As first time campers we were fortunate enough to make this our home for a few weeks. It is a family run campground nestled in a hallow of mountains. A sweet little brook runs through the campground where if you are on that side of the camp site your fire pit sits so you can enjoy the sound of water. The laundromat is clean and has a nice big dryer that makes drying clothes an easy job. The lodge is quaint, with a huge stone fire place where they have comfortable chairs and couch for your comfort. The front porch has several rocking chairs where people gather to share chit chat and coffee. The staff is excellent, willing to help you with your camper if you need it, emptying the trash can that sits on your site, and they are super friendly. It would be nice if they had a fenced area for dogs but not sure where they would put it as most all the area has something it is used for. They have events that go on at holiday times, however we were not there for that. As others said the drive way is tough to get out of, but the way I look at, that campsite was there before long before the intense traffic. We are going back this summer....hope to see you there. We camped at Flintlock Campground in a Travel Trailer.

As others have said, tricky navigating on or off the highway. An added obstacle is the "speed bump" just at the entrance, which may easily re-arrange your refer and/or your clothes closet. It's a nice old park with many sites along a brook, but only a handful of the bigger rigs can get next to it. Our space (#90) the fire ring was under our camper so it was unusable and we had about 2' behind us and our nose was hanging a bit out in the roadway. It's only a 36' motorhome. We had to squeeze our toad into the space between our motorhome and the camper next to us, which fortunately was not occupied the three days we stayed there. We might stay there again. We camped at Flintlock Campground in a Motorhome.

You're in the mountains. Routes 321 and 105 from Lenoir to the campground are up-down-left-right then more up and down and as of this post, there is significant construction along US-321 going into Blowing Rock, as they are widening the road. I'd guess that construction will last well into 2017. Campground is at the bottom of a steep hill then with an additional, very steep access road. Campground is old and tired. Most sites are gravel, full hookup, with all utilities at the rear of the sites. Just a few concrete pull-through sites. Prevosts need not apply. Narrow, gravel roads with angled and straight back-in sites, and sites are close together. Picnic tables, stone fire rings, no patios. No landscaping. Lots of old-growth trees. Free WiFi and cable. I got lucky and my satellite antenna found an open gap through the forest at site #47. The campground does have cabins for rent. We camped at Flintlock Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Searching on a variety of on-line sources found very few campgrounds in the Boone and Blowing Rock area. Boone is becoming a very up-and-coming city with major restaurant chains, lots of local and big chain hotels, just about every fast food eatery known to travelers. A thriving community. Fuel costs seem reasonable for a mountain town.

Flintlock is a older, rustic campground with typical amenities that is nicely wooded. We stayed there for a week in September to visit the Boone area. The management and staff were very helpful and friendly and even remembered my name during our stay. They have typical water and sewer and also 50amp service. All was fine except the water pressure was only around 20lbs, so we needed to use our water pump for showers. The campground has a very nice steam running through it and we did have stream side site. The sound of the stream was very soothing and great to hear out our window. Cable TV worked pretty well as did the wireless. If I have a complaint - and not one the campground can fix - is the road noise from rt 105. It is an incline as it passes by the campground and trucks use their engines to slow down (or go up the hill) and can be heard pretty clearly. We had to run the AC to mask the noise at night. Also, If you come to the campground, be aware that if you are coming from Boone, the entrance does come up in you quickly and then is a curved downward hill. Other than that, I really don't have any complaints. It's a basic campground at a decent price. We camped at Flintlock Campground in a Motorhome.

The owner was very friendly and staff was helpful. The park is located just off a busy road and the entrance is a bit steep. You must make a fairly tight turn before arriving at the office, but once we were in we didn't have a problem getting to our site. I must say the sites are tight with large trees. Nice for the shade on hot days, but we weren't able to extend our awning completely because of a nearby tree. We did have one of the few pull-through sites and that was nice because the sites WERE tight. Boone doesn't seem to have many campground options, so we were happy to find this one. It wasn't far from downtown and the outdoor drama, Horn in the West, was an easy drive as well. They offer cable, which was fine and wifi too, but we didn't use it. We used our Verizon Hotspot. If you have a satellite dish, you could have some difficulty due to large trees throughout the CG. Due to the hill at the entrance, it can be a bit difficult to pull out onto the busy road when leaving but we managed. We camped at Flintlock Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice campground! We had booked at a different local campground and it was so terrible we came here. The sites are spacious and the grounds are well kept. Each campsite backs up to the creek. The Wifi is fabulous! As fast as our cable internet at home. They have a pool table in the registration office, and the staff was superb! We would definitely stay here again. The location is great, only 10-15 minutes from Tweetsie Railroad. I gave this park a 6 because it is so very tight. To be fair, I booked my site the night before. The person on the phone asked me three times about the size of my fifth wheel and was told repeatedly, it was 40 feet long and had four slides. We were given a very narrow site with a tight back-in. Cars and trailers were parked up against the road and in some cases hanging into the road. We were unable to get into the site and had to be given another site. At first we were told there was no where else to put us. This was after 9 pm and we were three hours from home. They did eventually give us one of their seasonal sites by the creek. It was tight but we got in after someone moved a car. The site was so small we had to park the truck by the office instead of at the site. Leaving we had to squeeze between trucks hanging in the road with about six inches to spare on either side of the rig. Lots of seasonal campers here who were very nice. They had a nice little playground and a pleasant walking trail in the woods. This campground is better for smaller rigs. If you have a big rig, I wouldn't stay here as you will have trouble getting into your spot. We camped at Flintlock Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This was our first time camping for 4 days to do a little fall leaf watching. We got there at 6PM and was able to check in at the office. The office staff was very friendly and helpful. I wanted to use my satellite dish but tree canopy is very thick. But, they offer a free cable box. They put us in site # 49 which is on the creek with full hookups. I have a 30 foot RV, and with a little patience, I was able to get my rig into the back-in site. The site are a bit tight but this campground was built in 1970 when the rigs where a bit smaller. The sites are bit un-level so you’ll need some leveling blocks to make rig level. The WiFi is strong near the office but gets very weak as you move away from the office and non-existent at our site. The campground does have a very large green sign at the bottom of the hill on the right going down NC Hwy 105 at the entrance of the campground. It’s not hard to find but does take a trained eye to spot the road sign. NC Hwy 105 does have a lot of truck traffic so it's a bit tricky pulling out with your rig heading back toward Boone which is a left-hand turn on to NC Hwy 105. Yes, there's a bit of engine braking noise from the trucks but no different than a near by train with other campgrounds. The road down into the campground is a steep hill but slow down and you'll have no problems getting in or out of the campground. If you have time and you're heading toward Grandfather Mountain and/or Linville Falls which is a right-hand turn out of the campground, I would highly recommend that you visit Famous Louise's Rock House Restaurant located in Linville Falls directly off NC Hwy 221 S. We enjoyed the campground and we would come back! We camped at Flintlock Campground in a Travel Trailer.

rate based on $197 for 7 days. 1st the good. Excellent service from staff, very friendly and helpful, outstanding! Lots of shade and a great stream running through the camp. Restrooms were great. The not so good. Tight spots. I only bought my 20' rig with no slide and there was no extra room. The cable TV system was out the 1980's. You had to have a box for each TV, but the staff warned me it was hit and miss. But the service from the staff made this family owned park all worth it. If you are coming get a river front site, we will be back. We camped at Flintlock Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This is a clean campground, with friendly staff. It's in a beautiful area. It's been mentioned before, but the entrance does come up quickly, but if you know the general area to look for, you will be fine. The sites are small, but ample to do what you need to do. This was the first trip with a much longer trailer than I was used to. The other campers were very helpful and nice in assisting us with getting into our spot. The creek is nice, but will try to stay at a pull through site next time. Yes, we will go back. The cable had better reception than we are used to. The campground is nice, quite and relaxing. Even our 16 month old made a friend with another child in the campground he also enjoyed his time at the campground and nearby Tweetsie railroad for the Thomas weekend. We returned because the campground is pleasant with lots of mature trees and some attractive, stream-side sites. We had to split between sites to get a full week, a reflection of the camp's popularity - some come here for the whole summer. We enjoyed getting together with relatives and were fairly well accommodated, given the holiday limited site availability. There are a surprising number of cultural activities in Boone, a university town, and nearby Banner Elk, an upscale community. Emphasis is on country music, but there's summer theater at Lees-Mcrae College. However, I down graded to a 7 because: dryer out of order for weeks. Wi-Fi throughout is poor to none in evening and some times in non-peak / daytime hours. Water pressure is low - small pipes just don't get the flow to more distant sites. But, yes, we would return. We camped at Flintlock Campground in a Travel Trailer.
