This is just a beautiful campground, That is why I rate it excellent. Pick what is important to you. No water hookup at any site, cell reception (Verizon) sketchy. We had reserved a site with electric, but most have no hookups. The bathrooms are old but reasonably clean. They have a seemingly large staff, but in my experience they were not to engaged with the customers. They did not mention that there is a WiFi hotspot. When I asked about hiking available I got a curt "you have to go to the ranger station for that." The spot I had was beautiful, but when I mentioned that it would be nice if some of the trees could be trimmed back so they didn't brush the sides I was told "It's a forest service campground." We camped at Davidson River Campground, USFS in a Fifth Wheel.

Sites were easy to get into. We had a site with no water or power. There are very few sites with power and none with water. If you want power sign up very early. We were there 5 nights and had to be very careful about water use unless we wanted to hook up and drive to dump and refill water tank.

We had a small generator we used to recharge the batteries each day. Generator hours are 8 AM to 8 PM. Over all the campsite was nice enough we didn't mind the inconvenience of no power or water hookups.

If you are into hiking and waterfalls this is the place to go. Beautiful area with hikes that range from very easy to Lord Don't Let Me Die. We camped at Davidson River Campground, USFS in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

If you like horses visit the Tryon International Horseshow grounds near Tryon, NC: it is about 30 miles away but worth the trip. Hendersonville is about 18 miles away and a good place to do some shopping and they had several good restaurants. The waterfalls in the area are worth the hike to see.

There is NO WATER at the site. But, you can fill up your fresh water tank just to the left as you pull in. The front staff are unbelievable and truly love their jobs. They staffed the front gate, I believe, 24 hours. We were passing through from Myrtle Beach and stayed one night. We loved this place so much that we are going to stay two nights next year. The bike/hiking path is awesome and runs right along the river. Easy access to grocery stores, Dolly's ice cream and quite a few restaurants if you aren't cooking. The bathhouses are small. In the sycamore loop, there is only one shower for each sex and one bathroom stall. It could be different in other loops. The water thing was strange for us, but we knew ahead of time and were only staying the one day. We actually didn't have a plug in the bottom of our freshwater tank, so we weren't able to fill and it was actually fine. We used the bathhouse and bought jugs of water at the grocery for drinking. This place is so beautiful, I really recommend. We camped at Davidson River Campground, USFS in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

If you're up for some adventure, drive up to sliding rocks. It's a waterfall that you can slide down like a water slide. The water at the bottom is freezing, it's easy to get out and lifeguards are there until 6pm. It's $2 per person to slide but you can go for as long as you want. We ALWAYS stop here on our way back home. Also, you have to try the ice cream at Dolly's. You'll pass it on your way in.

Campground is fairly level and mostly on the floodplain of a mountain river. Heavily forested, typical eastern deciduous mixed, very biodiverse. Sites are back-in, generously spaced. All sites are paved, but you are allowed to pull onto the level graveled site when the asphalt ends. Most sites are for dry camping, although a limited number have 30/50 amp service. No water hookups anywhere. Fill your tank at checkin or fill containers at numerous nearby spigots. The closer you camp to the river, the noisier it will be (jogging trails, tubers, waders, and US 276 traffic). More families with children at back of campground due to swimming area. Good wifi service at the overflow parking kiosk. Away from there, wifi is sporadic to absent. DTV surprisingly good. Most major networks. Sprint service was 3 bar for phone, 1x for data. Great bicycling on park road system and the Loeb trail. Guard gate strictly enforced. No campground cruisers here. People unbelievably friendly. Concession employed hosts and staff were some of the best we've encountered in ten years of camping. Apparently good trout fishing in the Davidson River. Dark, quiet, cool at night. No AC needed. Lots of pets, but a well organized "pick up the poo" effort keeps the park clean. Convenient to Brevard. We would camp here again in a heartbeat. We camped at Davidson River Campground, USFS in a Travel Trailer.

They have 160 sites. 12 are for host. 32 are double sites, so you must rent both sites to stay in them. 28 are first come, but two of those are closed! The rest are reservation required, although I was told that if a site has not been reserved by 4 day out that it would become available for drive up. I strongly suggest that you make reservations ahead of time as they are often booked up. It is still to me a shame that they have made so much of it reservable, kinda ruins it for us locals, plus when you make reservations be prepared to pay an additional $10.00 for processing. Another thing is even though we have used them for years and Saturday night nothing was said, but Sunday Mr. Rules and regulations came by and said we could not use our smudge pots! So no citralla candles, tiki torches, ECT. This is not posted on any brochure or their rules and regulations posted on bulliten boards throughout the park. Over all nice place to stay but staff is very anal about everything. We camped at Davidson River Campground, USFS in a Tent.

One of the best maintained USFS areas I've seen. Roads and parking pads are paved and sites are level. Very generous spacing between sites, though you will see your neighbors. In the off-season (including late March), the majority of the campground is closed so everyone was concentrated in the front three loops and it filled up during nice weather. Bathrooms are a little old, but the push-button showers are nice and hot. Weak Verizon signal only works for text messages. Free WiFi if you hang around the gatehouse or amphitheater. We camped at Davidson River Campground, USFS in a Motorhome.

This campground is in a wonderful location in the Pisgah National Forest. If you like to hike, motorcycle, float, view waterfalls and camp in a more rustic setting you will love this campground. There are multiple loops with a wide variety of sites. The first loop nearest the entrance has electric hookups. The other loops have a very limited number of electric hookups and those sites require reservations. You can creek swim in the campground or travel 8 miles to Sliding Rock to slide and swim in a wonderful setting. There are numerous opportunities to hike. The Blue Ridge Parkway is close by and the ride southbound will give you excellent views. We camped at Davidson River Campground, USFS in a Travel Trailer.

One of our favorite campgrounds despite electric only and some bathroom issues. Beautiful, roomy, level, wooded campsites with plenty of level hiking and paved biking opportunities and a short ride to Blue Ridge Parkway. Excellent ranger station close by, as well numerous hiking, biking trails and waterfalls. You can bike from campground right into Brevard on paved bike path. Town of Brevard is just outside the campground and has all you'll need for restaurants and groceries. No cell coverage except in the central parking lot and just outside the camp. Horrible (dated and not very clean) bathrooms and push-button showers. We camped at Davidson River Campground, USFS in a Tent Trailer.

Huge campground with multiple loops, but you'd never know it when staying in any of the loops. We were in a loop with lots of foliage cover and privacy. We had planned on only staying a couple days but enjoyed our stay so much we extended it. It was quiet during the weekend, but when the weekend arrived it did get busier with families and kids on bikes. Showers were spacious and very clean. Our loop had two bathrooms, although we were told the shower in one of them had no hot water. Limited or no cell service but wifi available in the parking area near the amphitheater. Would definitely return if we find ourselves in the area again. We camped at Davidson River Campground, USFS in a Travel Trailer.

Davidson River Campground is located in the edge of the Pisgah National Forest, next to the Davidson River. The campground has several loops with some electric only sites. Most sites have no hookups. A dump station is available with potable water available at the station. The sites are shaded and spacious with trees and forest separating them from each other. Campground staff patrol the grounds at night and enforce quite times. We have enjoyed several stays at Davidson River and will return in the near future. WOW! Can't believe it has been so long since somebody last reviewed this one. Rate reflects the power loop (50 amp), which is $6 over the base $22 rate for dry camping. Extremely beautiful CG with very long paved parking pads and roomy sites which are well separated and very easy to back into. Wi-Fi is available in a small central area of the CG. Cell service is very weak to nonexistent. We camped at Davidson River Campground, USFS in a Fifth Wheel.

Although the staff and the campground is very good, I did not give it 10 because only 1 of their loops have electric hookup. It was full at this time. I am pretty sure that it is full most of the time. It is the loop closest to the front gate. So all other loops have no power available. Therefore, you bring generator or just use battery power for lighting. No AC refrigerator, no AC, no heater, no charging ability for phone, camera, computer. Also, No WiFi and a very faint cell reception. I was able to sent text but no calls. So consider that for emergency family contact issues. Other than that, the area is beautiful. Hwy 276 is top notch leading you north to the Blue Ridge Pkwy. Hwy 280 is 4 lane. Hwy 64 is 2 lane. I recommend getting there via 280 if getting there from I-26. This is one of my favorite campgrounds due to the location and things to do in the area. Many trails leave right from the campground, both hiking and biking trails. Hiking, biking, waterfalls, fishing, swimming, Brevard and the Blue Ridge Parkway are just a short drive away. Sliding Rock is near, and for just $1 you can slide as much as you wish. In the summer the campground is a busy and crowded place with kids, and lots of them. Kids running, kids yelling, kids riding their bikes, BUT, quiet hour is enforced. If you prefer to be away from the children, get a site towards the back of the campground and away from the river-front sites. The staff here this trip went strictly by the book as far as rules are concerned. The bathrooms, including showers were cleaned every day, but the showers were hit and miss as to which ones had consistent hot water and good water pressure. There are very few sites with electric and water, but don't count on snagging one of these on a weekend unless you get here mid-week and stay through the weekend. In most loops you can run a generator 4 hours per day from 8am to 8pm. The roads are paved and are most sites can accommodate big rigs. Some sites have privacy, but others do not. You just have to drive around and find a site that suits your needs or desires. I have camped here in the winter and summer: there is no bad time to make this campground a destination. We camped at Davidson River Campground, USFS in a Travel Trailer.

This is clean, well maintained campground with plenty of room between sites. The hosts were helpful and friendly. Interior roads and sites are paved. The campground is located under a dense forest canopy probably making satellite reception difficult. Since the campground is located in a narrow canyon, there is no off-the-air TV or AT&T cell service (probably no others either), so bring a good book. Its like you are in the middle of nowhere, but you are only a few miles from town. All the sites are level and most will accommodate a large RV. Only a few sites have electric. The whole campground is level, making casual bike riding enjoyable. A trout stream runs next to the campground and many sites face the stream. We used our Senior Pass for a 50% discount off the regular $20 fee plus $5 for electric. We enjoyed our stay and would camp here again. We camped at Davidson River Campground, USFS in a Motorhome.
