6 Parks near Carthage, North Carolina
Jul 2016 - $35.00
As the owner told us, this place is NOT an RV Resort. It is, however, a perfectly acceptable place to stay that is quiet and close/convenient to Pinehurst. We came for the golf, not for lounging at the RV park. As others have described, this is a small (16 spaces) RV park located at a private airport. The spaces themselves are mostly back-in, with a couple of pull-throughs. Most of the spots are taken by long-term renters, but no problems there, other than they go to work early. Utilities worked, although we had low water pressure. I wouldn't count on getting satellite access - there are a LOT of trees. You might get lucky, but probably not. No cable, but we got a bunch of over-the-air channels from Raleigh and Greensboro. Awesome place for a dog - lots of room to roam and play! No facilities at all - no restrooms or showers - you need to be self-contained. The Pik-n-Pig BBQ restaurant across the street is excellent - and busy. The good news is they close at 8. After that, it is very quiet and dark (no night operations at the airport). Note that the restaurant is cash or local check only (ATM on site). The RV park is also cash or check - no credit cards. The owner is very friendly and helpful. We would stay here again if we go to play more golf at Pinehurst! - FireFlyer
Apr 2016 - $35.00
This is just a small park with 15 (I think) sites, all full hookup with water, electric, sewer. Never did meet the owner/operator, did all business by email and phone. Cash or check payment only. Park was rustic, no real improvements, except the sites themselves. As others mentioned, the prices is not a bargain, but it was where we needed to be to be near family. The park is a bit out of the way, but easy to find via GPS
Our site (#2) was perfectly level.
Everything was fine, no complaints since we weren't expecting much.
No issues with the airport, which is just a private grass landing strip for small planes.
There are a few pull-through sites. Ours was back-in, but easy. A very large MH was next door, seemed to have plenty of room. - TechiePhil
Feb 2016 - $14.00
The good: Easy access, good WiFi (DSL), owner is friendly and accommodating, extremely quiet at night, good water, electric, full hookup, convenient to groceries, good area to walk (taxiway). The 'okay': The park is a cleared out circle with 16 sites all facing the center of this circle. No facilities of any kind. The bad: Some of the sites appear to be hard to level. Not aesthetically appealing...it's a place to stay if you need to be in the area. ** When we first drove past this park, we turned around and left. After staying at another park in the area in during heavy rains, we decided to give this a chance. It was actually a pretty nice place if you can get the right site. It's VERY entertaining with the runway next door and you can watch the planes (and Blackhawk helicopters) take off and land on pretty days. This can get pretty loud during busy times, but it's just during the day. At night, there is NO noise whatsoever. Very convenient to Pinehurst. We would stay here again. The price reflects a monthly rate. - RVhappyHere
May 2016 - $25.00
We stayed here for 5 weeks in April-May 2016. Campsite is rustic, signs say it's a nature preserve, and it is very natural. It's an older park and showing its age. The park has the feel of a state park. The showers were clean, but definitely showing signs of age with peeling paint and some mildew on the shower curtains. Owner works very hard to keep things up, but seems to be a little overwhelmed with all the work. We enjoyed getting to know her, she is very protective of the park and its tenants.
It was formerly open to day use (the lake beach) and overnight camping, but it now has a one-week minimum. Mostly long-term campers, and most seemed to have a connection with Ft. Bragg army base in Fayetteville. One thing to be aware of: because of all the pine trees, I later spent many hours cleaning pine sap off my camper and tow vehicle. Take some cleaner with you and get it while it's fresh. - TechiePhil
Nov 2015 - $14.00
The good: Lots of trees, quiet, good electric, clean level sites, satellite dish hookup available at some sites, beautiful lake, owner is attentive and accommodating. The 'okay': WiFi (DSL). The bad: The mile long driveway is gravel, rough, and gets muddy during rains. Well water is brown. Tight maneuvering for large rigs due to overgrown trees. The pictures on this park's website appear to be from several years ago. This park has the potential to be great with some much needed TLC. Several sites are no longer usable due to erosion and disrepair. The rate shown is based on a monthly stay. - RVhappyHere
Nov 2015 - $45.00
The owner is a sweetheart. You will feel like you are part of the family as soon as you talk to her on the phone. This is a very nice, relaxing campground, and the owners keep a tight rein on things to make sure it stays that way. The turns in and out of the sites can be tricky with the abundance of long leaf pines in the park, along with lots of scrub oaks, sassafras and persimmon trees. But it is doable. The lake is great, crystal clear water. They have a beach with white sand so sunbathing while the kids swim is a daily event. We like this campground as a quick weekend getaway spot. - RVorBust
Aug 2016 - $1.00
Resort is very clean. Most sites do not have sewer. The roads are wide and our site was easy to get in and out of. Sites are wide and not crammed together. I felt there is a lot to do at the resort with many planned activities for the kids through out the weekend. It is a family oriented resort and everyone was friendly. - Puckstoper9
Apr 2016 - $9.00
OK family park, very clean. Off the beaten path and lack such full time essentials as park-wide WiFi and full hookup (sewer) at sites. Grounds are very dusty and navigating a big rig can be tricky. OK for a one night stay but not a destination park. Like many of its type it uses the word "resort" a bit too loosely; it is really a very nice campground but not a resort. - Happy Motorhomers
Mar 2016 - $15.00
Pitiful that a beautiful place like this has only a few full hookups and they are ALWAYS taken by their "members". It's 2016 people!! - JOE TRANSOU
Sep 2015 - $20.00
This park is the closest to Sanford and surrounding area. I was told that improvements are slated for next year. I pulled a 30 ft. TT up a fairly good hill with a tight turn at the top to get to the RV sites. Once there the pull thru sites are just parallel to the road. Most of the parking area for the trailer is fairly level as I only did minor adjustments with a couple of blocks under the wheels. The rest of the site is not so level. Some are better than others. 3 sites are full hook up and 3 are partial. My stay was nice and peaceful as there was only 3 other campers there ( there's only 6 sites total). All in all I liked the park but its not for those that expect the standard RV park. I was visiting family in the area and this park was the closest I could get to them. Personally, I hope they improve the RV sites and the immediate camp sites so its a little bit nicer. The RV campers have sole access to the rest rooms as they are locked and not open to the other park users. You are given the code to the locks for the park gates and rest rooms. I would use this park again. - Ken56
Apr 2011 - $38.00
We arrived on a Friday early April for 5 days. We were advised that the dirt road into the campground was a little rough: huge understatement. The road is terrible: huge ruts and holes. And it is about a mile long. They had tried to use pine needles to hide some of the holes on the road inside the park. That does not work. I noticed on other reviews that it looks like the road has been bad for a few years. Was implied that it was this way only because of some recent bad rains. Sites are not clean: a lot of trash all around the park. There were some very old trashy campers in the park that were not being used and looked like they had not been occupied for decades! We paid our Passport America rate for 3 of the nights but even at 50% off, it was over priced. We were told the site we were assigned would have no problem getting our stationary satellite signal: did not happen. We will never stay here again and will never recommend it. - edmarge10
Sep 2009 - $34.00
Terrific peace and quiet, in the Sandhills area of NC. Has hard packed sites and roads, shaded sites, very clean bathhouse and pool. Helpful and friendly staff. The pine needles were being raked and baled during our week-long stay. Not understanding previous posts. We thoroughly enjoyed this park. - campingtime
Jul 2009 - $38.00
Very unkept & attended park. Mostly Permenent sites.Very bad sandy roads access. Would not recommend staying here. - gptexas
May 2016 - $23.00
Campground is in a beautiful setting right on the New River. The pull-through sites are grass with some holes and lumps in the site. It didn't take much effort to move slightly to find a level spot. The back-in sites are grass and gravel. The utilities are good. We arrived just after they opened for the season so things were still in progress.
Campground is close to Jefferson NC for shopping and Lowes. We arrived from the Blue Ridge Pkwy.
Showers were installed well but hadn't been cleaned as yet.
Kayak rentals are available for river use. WiFi is good, no AT&T service. - Nautilus
Sep 2011 - $17.00
This campground is way off the beaten path. Narrow twisty roads in from interstate. Campground has a number of ongoing infrastructure projects that no one seems to be working on. Holes dug all over the place for apparent work on sewer system. Vast quantities of junk stuff surrounds the office building and is a great detraction. Roads are gravel with many potholes. Campground offers tubing, kayak and canoe rentals. Staff is friendly and helpful. We will not come here again. - nancy42
Oct 2010 - $28.00
We absolutely loved this campground. We had a site right next to the water, large campsite: not crowded at all, plenty of room. Bathhouse is great: clean, neat, really nice showers with lots and lots of hot water. This place is very well managed: they are on top of everything, plus they are friendly, never too busy to lend a hand. We will be going back in the future. - sharmingreg
