wish I could give this place "no stars"! I have been staying at this campground many time over many years. It use to be kept up to date, safe, friendly host/owner, and overall great place to be. There would be cookouts and special events for the children to do. The owner would welcome everyone and help you out in anyway. She would decorate for each holiday and made the place feel like a home away from home. We would never have to worry about leaving our travel trailer and going to see the local area for the day. New owners took over and this place in 2016 and it is a mess now! Trash everywhere (beer bottles esp), people come and go out of your camping area, none of the games for children are up to date or even working anymore. Basketball area has junk where children are suppose to be playing at. Broken beer bottles in bath house area and they look like they have not been clean in months! At night you can hear people down at the lake yelling, drinking, and pretty much partying till they pass out. None of the rules are followed and its just a free for all now. It's sad to see the way this place has turned out. A teenager is running the place and of course, its just all about the money and not campers. Don't waste your time going. We camped at Heritage Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This is an older park. Lots of longleaf pines for shade on hot days. Very quiet and relaxing. There is a lovely clear lake to kayak or swim in. A beach with picnic tables. Bathhouse is old, but sufficient if needed. The lady that runs it now is very attentive and keeps things very clean. She also monitors that only campers are in the park. Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for 5 weeks in April-May 2016. Campsite is rustic, signs say it's a nature preserve, and it is very natural. It's an older park and showing its age. The park has the feel of a state park. The showers were clean, but definitely showing signs of age with peeling paint and some mildew on the shower curtains. Owner works very hard to keep things up, but seems to be a little overwhelmed with all the work. We enjoyed getting to know her, she is very protective of the park and its tenants.

It was formerly open to day use (the lake beach) and overnight camping, but it now has a one-week minimum. Mostly long-term campers, and most seemed to have a connection with Ft. Bragg army base in Fayetteville. One thing to be aware of: because of all the pine trees, I later spent many hours cleaning pine sap off my camper and tow vehicle. Take some cleaner with you and get it while it's fresh. We camped at Heritage Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

While the area is rural, 20 minute drives will get you into nearby towns of Pinehurst, Southern Pines, or Aberdeen. You'll find all the shopping there, and lots of places to eat. Pottery collectors will enjoy the Seagrove area. Golfers will know about Pinehurst. We found a nice country style family restaurant in Carthage called Pete's. Nearby is a great little shop called Blue Horse Market. Cool gifts and local stuff, sandwiches, local brews and the best butter pecan ice cream I have ever had!

Overall Rating:

The good: Lots of trees, quiet, good electric, clean level sites, satellite dish hookup available at some sites, beautiful lake, owner is attentive and accommodating. The 'okay': WiFi (DSL). The bad: The mile long driveway is gravel, rough, and gets muddy during rains. Well water is brown. Tight maneuvering for large rigs due to overgrown trees. The pictures on this park's website appear to be from several years ago. This park has the potential to be great with some much needed TLC. Several sites are no longer usable due to erosion and disrepair. The rate shown is based on a monthly stay. We camped at Heritage Campground in a Motorhome.

The owner is a sweetheart. You will feel like you are part of the family as soon as you talk to her on the phone. This is a very nice, relaxing campground, and the owners keep a tight rein on things to make sure it stays that way. The turns in and out of the sites can be tricky with the abundance of long leaf pines in the park, along with lots of scrub oaks, sassafras and persimmon trees. But it is doable. The lake is great, crystal clear water. They have a beach with white sand so sunbathing while the kids swim is a daily event. We like this campground as a quick weekend getaway spot. We have been to this campground a few times. The owner is always willing to help us in any way she can. She makes our stay the best and fun that it can be. It is quiet, relaxing; has nice hiking trails; very clean bathrooms and showers. The lake is big and full of all types of fish! We can kayak all over the lake and the swimming area is big with lots of space and room for everyone. We never feel like we have people crowded around us. We love it here! Great campground. Everything is just like the website says it is. Very nice and clean swimming area with white sandy beach! Great hiking trails, all kind of games through out the campground for people of all ages to play. Owner makes sure you have all that you need, and helps you with anything that may come up. Very friendly campground. I will tell all my friends about this campground. We camped at Heritage Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Have camped here many times, but last time took 3 grandchildren under the age of 8. Charged $5. per child per night. Owner was very rude to us. Advertised Wi-Fi but was unable to get it at our site. It is a nice campground if you like wooded, natural lots. The showers were awful. With no extras this campground is not worth $45.00 a night. We will not camp there again. This is the second time that my husband and I have camped at Heritage Campgrounds for a length of time. The grounds are lovely, with campsites nestled amongst beautiful pines and greenery. The campground hosts have been most welcoming and gracious each time we have been here. We have enjoyed walking and exploring the many paths in the campground, swimming with our grandchildren in the spring fed lake, and playing on the pristine sand beach. We would recommend this campground to anyone traveling in this area of NC. The owners have much to be proud of. We camped at Heritage Campground in a Motorhome.

We have family in the area, and I was so happy I found out about this campground! The campground is off the main road and very quite. We were greeted by the owner who was very friendly and helpful. The campground is wooded and sites are a good size. Pulling the rig through is a little tight in spots, but no problem. Will definitely stay here again. Overall Rating:

Found this campground on RV park reviews and spent 4 nights over Labor Day weekend with my husband. The campground is very secluded and way off the road in the pines of Carthage. Very quiet at night and nobody bothers you. Hostess does a great job of keeping the campground up and making sure you are comfortable. There was a pig picking that weekend and the food was wonderful. We have already made reservations to camp here at least 3 times in 2011. Would recommend to anyone with children too the campground is not that big and the children would be safe to ride there bikes. The campground and lake was man made by the parents. The lake is great to lounge on a float and swimming for children. We camped at Heritage Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We only spent one evening at Heritage, but enjoyed it thoroughly. The owner was the nicest most accommodating person you could want to meet. Location is very quiet and peaceful with equally nice neighbors. Facilities were clean and up to date, with plenty of traditional campground activities for the kids including 3 miniature ponies, lake w/beach, volleyball, basketball, shuffle board, ping pong, etc.. Shaded area, cool in the summer heat of the Carolinas. Spots were level and clean with easy hook ups. We will be back. We camped at Heritage Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We stayed with two children over Easter Weekend and had a wonderful stay. The campground and facilities were very clean. The owner met us at our campsite and had it raked clean for our arrival. The restrooms were rustic, but clean and in good repair. The other campers were friendly and included a mix of weekend visitors and permanent trailers. The lake was very nice and clean. The kids enjoyed the lake and riding their bikes around the campground. There were no plans for Easter activities, but the owner and some campers put together an egg hunt for the children. We truly enjoyed our stay and will come back. Our only negative was the fee structure: $25 for a pop-up and an additional $5 per child. We camped at Heritage Campground in a Tent Trailer.

A hidden gem in the woods! We attended the first annual Chili Cookoff over the weekend. We had a wonderful time. Our site was clean and level. Had a fire pit, picnic table and grill. The campground is very wooded. It has a large lake with a roped off sandy beach area for summer swimming and a pier/dock for fishing. This is our 'new' favorite campground. We will visiting it a lot in the coming years. Has a wonderful host/owner and wants to make sure you are comfortable in her family owned campground.
