We stayed at Carowinds Camp Wilderness so we could visit SCarowinds (Halloween-themed setup). The campground is easy to get to off of I-77 but you will have to contend with some traffic during their busy times. The campground is clean and laid out well. It has easy access to the amusement park. The facilities looked great but we didn't have a need to use them. As nice as this campground is, the best part was the staff. They were extremely helpful with everything. They even allowed for an extended checkout on Sunday as we had to go to a wedding in Lenior. We'll definitely be back for a long weekend when we can enjoy the park more. We camped at Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Closest RV park to Charlotte still 14 miles south, this park is adjacent to and affiliated with the Carowinds Amusement Park. A gigantic waterpark and rollercoaster theme park that actually straddles the NC/SC state line (have NO idea how that works) The RV park is medium sized, with bath houses, a laundry, small general store and swimming pool. The swimming pool, being a part of the Carowinds system was staffed with serious waterpark life guards who were doing the full Stevie Wonder swimmer scan. For a park next to WallyWorld, it was relatively quiet in the camping zones. Although most of the RV'ers here were of the toy-hauler, golf-cart needing, weekend-warriors, it stayed pretty mellow. The biggest demerit was the sites themselves. Narrow concrete pad for the rig was not level and everything else was dirt. Dusty when dry and an absolute quagmire when it rains. Road are very narrow and the sites are too small to park your tow vehicle forcing folks to park on the roads. In our case, we needed two adjacent sites to move their trucks to allow us to back in to our site. Expensive from our perspective. We camped at Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

We ventured into Charlotte several times. To see the Charlotte Knights; by far the most attended and largest venue we've seen in our MLBB tour. foodie tour with Feast Tours. Charlotte is a large city, but is clean and vibrant with a great downtown (which they call "Uptown"). Lots of really good eateries with fresh young chefs doing the trendy farm to table cuisine. Mexican was typical southern forgettable. NIce brunch at Café Monte in SouthPark.

We came in on a Saturday morning without a reservation but they still were able to get us a site. Site was a level back-in FHU, the first two thirds paved and the last part dirt. Hook-ups were in the middle of the site and all in good working order. The site was surrounded on three sides by a five foot hill which offered some privacy and was well shaded. Picnic table and a charcoal grill are provided, no ground fires were allowed. The site did get pretty muddy after a heavy afternoon rain. It got very buggy in the evening.

Check-in was easy and staff was friendly. The office doubles as an OK stocked store and a recreation center with a nice sitting area. Nice pool with lifeguard is next to the office, and shower house is attached in the back. Showers were clean and modern. The campground offers a free shuttle to the amusement park next door. Overall a decent campground, though a bit pricey. We camped at Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort in a Travel Trailer.

We only live 10 minutes away but needed to try everything in our new trailer before we're off to Savannah next week, so we stayed the night. What a great location and nice place! We used to overnight here on the way to Florida 20 years ago; we'd definitely recommend it!! Nice lot sizes (I think I picked us the biggest). There are quite a few permanent sites, but there's still plenty of room for the traveler. Everything was clean, and the staff was very friendly. This is the best location if you're going to Carowinds or just checking out the many things to do in the Charlotte area; there are so many things to do in the near vicinity. Only stayed here 1 night as a stopping point b/w PA & FL. Park was nice. Went to clubhouse and played checkers with the kids for a bit. Didn't use the showers but saw them; bathrooms and showers were clean. Liked the view of the roller coasters and slides; of course, kids wanted to go. Sites were of avg spacing; probably a bit on the narrow side really, along with the roadways.

The guy across from us got in late and didn't seem experienced navigating with his 5th wheel; since the areas were narrow and it was getting dark, he smashed the cab of his truck with the trailer. Overall, nice campground with lots of shade, families, and activity. We camped at Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort in a Travel Trailer.

The campground has been partially upgraded this year. We stayed in the upgraded section of the campground. The sites are newly paved with upgraded hookups and new charcoal grills. A new shower house facility has been added to the upgraded section of the campground. We were very happy with what has been done with the upgrades. The campground is next door to Carowinds Amusement Park, free shuttles are available as are discounted tickets. We were highly satisfied with our stay and recommend this campground to others. Carowinds Amusement Park is located next door. It is definitely worth visiting as they have added several great new attractions over the past few years with more on the way. Carowinds is a seasonal amusement park, so make sure that you check their operating hours when planning your visit. Camp Wilderness Resort is open year round.

Stayed in the tent section and the restrooms were always dirty or need of repair. Rv section looked a little cramped and some of the tent sites were too. Nice pool and clubhouse. Good if you are going to the park since they have shuttles. We camped at Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort in a Travel Trailer.

It wasn't packed as I expected it to be on a beautiful weekend in July. The campsite was a pull-through behind the check-in station, was paved, had a concrete patio and a very nice picnic table. The showers, restrooms and pool were very clean. They offer discounted tickets to Carowinds in the campground store and a shuttle every hour from open to close. This is nice since we could come back and have lunch at the camper. The food prices and parking prices at Carowinds are very expensive. That kind of made up for the campsite cost being a little steep. The staff was friendly as well. Restaurants and shopping are nearby. Very close to I-77 and Downtown Charlotte. We live just an hour away and decided to get season passes and camp. Over all I really like this campground. The location is great, right off the Hwy and close to stores. The pull through sites are good and actually the back in sites looked pretty good as well. Somewhat close but I have seen much worse. The people were super nice and this is definitely family friendly!! The pool is small and only stayed open till 7. The shuttle ran every 30 minutes, doesn't fit many but they do have two and will come back and get you if you don't all fit. Lots of shade spots and great for tents/pop ups. The bathrooms were clean at the beginning of the week, although showers could use some bleach. Being a holiday weekend, come Sunday night they needed some attention and TP!!! Love that we could go back and forth from Carowinds to campground to eat and get out of the heat. You can bring your golf cart if you have one. We really enjoyed our weekend and had lots of fun! We will definitely be back!! We camped at Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Nice park for the scenery and quietness. It was a bit overpriced for what you get but you're still camping on Carowinds property. Staff was quite friendly. Bathhouse left you feeling dirty after you finished your shower. For a campground that advertises all the money they spent getting it up-to-date, they sure forgot to do something with the bathhouse. We'd camp here again but only to attend Carowinds. We camped at Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort in a Travel Trailer.

This is conveniently located to the park and lots of things to do! the grounds are terrible, the grass is not cut, the roads have pot holes and mud holes. the staff was great! The kids have to wear life jackets in the pool; not sure about this? They do have putt putt but it needs to be redone. The price for what you get I think is a little high. They just need to clean up and make sure they are giving you $50.00 worth. I would check the KOA up the street! We camped at Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort in a Travel Trailer.

The staff here was great. They were very friendly and knowledgeable. Shuttle to Carowinds entrance runs every thirty minutes from thirty prior opening and thirty after closing. My wife and children left the park after dark and the driver made sure they got to our site instead of just dropping them off at the shuttle site. There was good wireless internet access at our site which was site 91. I saw one wireless antennae on the roof of the Trading Post and two at the dump station each pointing a different direction. There was one more that I saw in the center of the Maple section. There may have been more but I didn't see them. The Trading Post "Lodge" area was very nice. The store area had staples and a few extras. There was a nicely updated small play ground, shuffle board and putt putt area. There is a nice pool (closed during our stay, out of season). The only con was that it is in the flight path of the Charlotte airport and you can hear the jets early and late but we have a sound machine so it was not an issue for us. We will definitely stay here again especially thanks to the staff. We camped at Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Campground entrance was a little hard to find but once we found it, access was pretty easy. Checkin staff was great and had us checked in and heading to our site quickly. We were in the older part of the campground, site 78, but it was easy to get into and was level side to side but extremely unlevel back to front. Site was spacious and close to the pool (very nice), playground (our 5 year old loved it) and the mini-golf course (free). The tram to Carowinds was also very convenient and ran promptly on the half hour as advertised. Just an FYI to families. I wouldn't recommend Carowinds theme park on a Saturday if you have children. Sunday seemed to be a much better time. We camped at Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Very expensive rates for a place that is not kept up very well. There was only one staff person working in and around the grounds. The staff in the office was helpful and friendly. The pool was nice, but had dirt and sand all over the bottom. The tiles in the pool definitely hadn't been cleaned in a while. The lawn chairs were nasty! This is not a campground where you will find family activities going on, if that is what you are looking for. This campground would be good if you are taking a trip to Carowinds or were here for race week. Otherwise??? We camped at Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort in a Travel Trailer.
