Must call to make reservations. The website isn't really very good and doesn't have a map which makes it hard to select a site. The river sites are excellent and some of them could handle ~30' rigs. Cell reception was very poor. Bathrooms were mostly clean but very old. The staff was friendly during check in. Sites were mostly dirt, and the campground had lots of shade trees. They were not especially spacious but not too tight either. There are several other campgrounds in the Cherokee area and most of them are outdated and frankly didn't look safe. I would recommend this campground to someone staying in the area and highly recommend a river site. We camped at River Valley Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The Adirondack Mountains near Lake Placid have better views, nicer campgrounds, real mountain towns, and more natural attractions than the Smoky Mountain National Park. I wasn't impressed with the Smokies.

The Raven Fork river is right at the edge of the park, with some camping from tents to motor homes available on the bank. The river and nearby waters are stocked with trout, and most places are "catch and keep". A Cherokee Indian fishing license ($10 for one day; $17 for two) is required. Most non-tent sites are on concrete. The park was comfortable when about 30% full. The spots, however, are very close together and a full park may feel crowded. The campground was well kept up with the exception of decrepit fire rings. WiFi is almost non-existent with slightly better reception near the office; even there, speed was in the 1-4 kps range (that's kilobytes per second, not megabytes) and useful only for collecting email. The campground is surrounded by hills; satellite TV is available only at a few sites. Camping is cash only. We camped at River Valley Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The town of Cherokee is pretty much a tourist trap. Entrances to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway are nearby. The best activity maps are found at the Park's Visitor Center. One-day express delivery service is not available in the area. Do not approach Cherokee from the east on U.S. 19 in any vehicle other than a car. It's narrow, twisty and steep. The route that goes through Silva is much tamer.

I've been going here since I was old enough to drive. It's on a valley, mountains all around. You don't see the sun until 9:30 in the fall and it hides behind the mountain after 4. The only issue is if you need access to the internet, it is scarce in this area due to the mountainous location. Can't get a signal here. Campsites are clean and well maintained and the owners/staff are friendly and accommodating. They accept cash only... No checks or credit cards. We camped at River Valley Campground in a Travel Trailer.

You go for the environment and scenery... or the casino if that's your thing. Within 3 miles of ranger station at the entrance of smokey mountains national park. Reasonable drive to Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Maggie Valley, Asheville and other small mountain towns.

We have stayed here for the last 2 years and will next year also. We love this campground. The nicest people you would want to meet. If you enjoy fishing and river streams this is the place to go. Very cool in August especially on the river, Fishing is better in Spring and early fall when water is higher usually. Closed between Nov-March. We camped at River Valley Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful setting! This campground sits on a river that has waterfalls and rapids. We had a site on the river with the sights and sounds of rushing rapids right out our back window. It is surrounded by mountains and shady.

The Verizon cellular service was very weak, as the park is surrounded by mountains and the camp's WiFi was non-existent. They said they were working on it.

There are tent sites on the river as well as larger sites for trailers, 5th wheels and motorhomes. Some reviewers have said the sites on the river were close together but were were almost up to the "permanent residents" section and the sites 12, 13, 14 (we were on 13) were very spacious. There are many pull-throughs and back-in sites off the river and those don't have as many shade trees. The upper portion of the park is for permanent residents and it is kept very neat with strict rules that maintains the beauty of the campground and surrounding area.

Water pressure was good and cable was snowy and only about 25 channels.

We will go back because we really enjoyed the campgrounds and the area. We camped at River Valley Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here over the 4th of July and it was very crowded during that period as to be expected. Some sites can be pretty tight especially those next to the river. It is a very lovely location and the people that run this are very nice. Wifi wasn't very good during our stay and that could have been due to the amount of people there. Verizon signal was hit or miss. There are some big trees that could be a problem for large rigs if one doesn't take there time. Overall a very nice campground that sits right on a river stocked with trout. We'll go back but at a different time of the year when its less crowded . We camped at River Valley Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We camped here for a month and the monthly rate for a non-river spot is only $400--a great deal and well worth the money! The restrooms are clean and the showers have plenty of pressure and hot water. There is a large laundry room and a game room. The front section is mostly paved spots with full hook-ups, picnic tables and fire rings. There are smaller tent/pop-up sites along the river in the front section. The middle section is not paved, however, all of the sites that are not on the river are level pull-through sites, most with shade trees. The river side sites are back-in and they have a gorgeous view. The back section is for permanent campers, and they are very well kept and folks are friendly. There is a trail that runs along the river which is great for dog walking and enjoying the views, including a small waterfall right across the river. The staff is very friendly. The campground is about two miles up Big Cove Road from downtown Cherokee. On up Big Cove Road about another 2 miles is Mingo Falls, a nice little hike. If you're looking for a reasonably priced mountain get-away, this is the place to be! We camped at River Valley Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Destination campground located adjacent to a mountain stream in the mountains of North Carolina. Campground is at the south end of the Blue Ridge Parkway at the entrance of the Great Smoky Mountains NP. Good, well marked access from highway. Well maintained park with lots of long term residents. Pet friendly for friendly pets. Paved interior roads. Level gravel and some concrete level sites. Average space between sites with gravel and some trees between sites. Picnic table and fire ring at each site. A little tight for big rigs but doable. Good access to utilities and all worked properly. Good cable selection . No Wi-Fi and no Verizon data coverage. Spotty to no cell phone coverage. Had to go into Cherokee to get Wi-Fi. Showers/restrooms are modern and clean, and laundry is fine. Very quiet with no train, plane, or traffic noise. Very friendly and helpful staff. Cash only-no credit cards. Good fishing in the streams adjacent to the park and in the area. Nothing for kids other than the stream . Good location to explore the National Park and area. Big Casino in town. We would return We camped at River Valley Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This was our first time to visit the Great Smokie Mountians, and we were very happy to have found this park! All sites for short term stay have level concrete pads, full hook ups, a beautiful setting by the stream and surrounded by the mountians. Very quiet location, except for the daily trash truck as a previous reviewer mentioned. The is no cell service in this area. The staff is very friendly, hassle free rates, paid by cash only. We will stay here again! We camped at River Valley Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

The staff were very nice. There is no cell service in this ravine. The trash truck comes every morning at 7:30. For the location and no more amenities that they have, I think it is overpriced. If you have an emergency and have to leave, you don't get a refund. They don't give Good Sam discounts or any other discounts that I am aware of. If you stay 6 nights you do NOT get the seventh free. This is great campground for adults, very nice staff and lots of shade. The river runs by the campgrounds with great fishing. The restrooms were very clean but it`s time for a remodel they are showing their age. Not setup for kids, more for the older group. Hope to camp here for many years to come. Well maintained cg with very friendly and helpful staff. Bathroom/shower generally clean but could use updating. Great fishing stream adjacent to several sites that attract many locals. All paved sites are available but we camped in an unpaved but level site. Would stay at this cg again. We camped at River Valley Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This is a very nicely appointed place. Seems to be in three stages. The newest is wide open: concrete pads w/ paved roads, this is where I was placed. The second area is very well wooded and where the pull through's might be (few to none in the new area). The third area is a very well guarded and meant to be a private seasonal area. Although my site wasn't pull through, I was able to do so by cutting through an adjacent site, (otherwise it would have been difficult w/ the other vehicles in the road). That aside, this is a good place. CATV was very good (also my SAT worked well), my Verizon phone and phone card did NOT work so went without for the two days. That would be the ONLY reason for me to skip this place. It was really beautiful down by the river, and the staff was very helpful. Sure wish my VZ worked. Very nice campground, and more affordable than Gatlinburg. We had a spot just feet from the river, which was beautiful (but noisy, if that bothers you). We camped at River Valley Campground in a Motorhome.
