8 RV Parks near Chocowinity, North Carolina

We were not impressed! We have stayed before under different management and although new management is trying, it is a long way from good. Lots are very close, ranging from sunny/open exposures to some shade. Site surface is a concrete pad with dirt, sand and grass. There is a picnic table.
When we arrived, we had advised them of a 3-4 month stay. When we went to pay for our third month, we had been advised that the site had been rented out to someone else the next day. Initially an alternative site was not offered but after some strong words and 6 hours later, we were given a different site and an apologetic discount for the inconvenience. (This was the Thursday of the July 4th weekend-just try finding another park.)
We were religiously forgotten for sewer pump outs, even though regularly added to the list.
We also found out that we were moved because a full timer on the hill (permanent sites) complained about the noise of the truck (HDT) and really wanted us gone from the park. New management does not run the park. The hill residents on Paradise Island do, as well as the maintenance manager who oversees the pumping, etc.
The weekly Saturday night DJ or Band is a little noisey. Much better when it is once a month. Some full timers actually go elsewhere for Saturday night so they can sleep.
The store staff and housekeeping staff are great. Still major flooding with lots of rain.
This park is not friendly to HDTs (converted tractor trailer type trucks for pulling 5th wheels). Will not return: will park at Walmart first. - witchey1
May 2016 - $20.00
Under even newer management since our last visit. Much cleaner, but still no scattered trash cans- just the parks dumpsters which have been increased in number. Security has been increased (a good thing). Roads are still dirt and could probably be upgraded to gravel but dirt is still good. - witchey1
Apr 2016 - $33.00
We stayed here to be close to family. The park is very large and has a lot of seasonal campers. Easy access to the Interstate. Very easy in and out of the park. They assigned us site B-4, but it was very tight. The gentleman that escorted to our site knew we would not fit, so we asked to be moved to B-5. That was not a problem. The campground was pretty empty because it was so early in the season. I am not sure how easy it would have been to be moved if the campground was fuller. Our site was grass and pine needle covered and large tree roots, but level. Good electricity and water pressure. There is a lot to do in the area. New Bern, NC is about 35 minutes. Very historic. Rocky Mount is a little over an hour drive. The Prime Smokehouse downtown is very good. Greenville is close, Sam Jones BBQ is some of the best around. If in the area again, we would probably stay here. - Cliff-fa-fa
Jun 2017 - $14.00
I love this place! I need to be here long term for work and I know I will be very happy here. Grounds are kept in impeccable shape; beautiful landscaping. I feel like I'm in a wide open field. I look out my window and see... nothing but grass and trees. For the RVs that are here, they are very nice. Great amenities, including playground for kids, beautiful pool (where you can actually swim laps), clubhouse with arcade games, billiards, air hockey, tv, Wii, organized activities. A creek (with fishing) borders the campground - I haven't visited there yet. BUT WHAT IMPRESSED ME MOST is how accommodating and helpful people are here. We first had a problem with our rig and then with our truck, rendering us pretty much helpless. I can't say enough how many folks came and offered to help us in any way possible. - cherylbrv
Sep 2016 - $43.00
The resort is mostly filled with permanents (weekend retreats). 10 to 12 spaces for transient RVs on a grassy ridge. W/S/E. Laundry room machines need repair. Bathhouse very clean. Nice pool. Staff is exceptionally friendly and accommodating. Convenient to Little Washington. - tom&kathryn
Jun 2016 - $43.00
Great place for an overnight stay, just outside of Washington and a short drive to historic Bath. Staff was very cordial. No cable service. A lot of very well kept permanent sites around and along the river. Pool was very nice with large shady pavilion with tables and chairs. Trash pickup twice a day. - g peter
Mar 2017 - $25.00
We stayed here just one night. We were in town for a birthday party, and we have young children. The owners were the best! We had an issue with our car dolly the day we were leaving and both owners helped us for at least an hour, and were so pleasant to talk to and deal with. They were wonderful. The campground was relatively small, however, this did not take away from the experience. The grounds were clean and spacious, and the campground was quiet with very little traffic. This is truly the owner run campground experience you look for each time. Friendly and helpful, clean and roomy! We would suggest this campground to anyone looking for a place to stay in the area, or just looking for a place to camp on the way to your final destination! - Mhswinson
Nov 2016 - $35.00
This is a nice little spot to stay if you are in the Greenville area. We stayed here over the weekend for an ECU football game. We were arriving late Friday night and the owner met us and escorted us to the site. It was a brand new pull-thru he had just finished and everything was very nice. The owner apologized that there wasn't any grass or plants since he had just gotten the certification from the County that week. I told him I understood and that everything was okay. He and his father were usually around the campground or were available at his house across the street. All the sites have 50amp electric but he will loan you an adapter if you need it. They are also all in the open with no trees around. Water was good and had good pressure. It did rain on us a little so it got a bit muddy but I know the site was new and really aren't complaining. I will stay here again. - archerspoon
May 2016 - $35.00
There are very few options in this area and we found this park to suit our needs and close to Greenville. Access roads are paved and accessible for big rigs. Camp is gravel based pull thrus for easy access in an open area near local farm fields. Currently ten sites with plans to expand. The utilities are placed well and water, electric and sewer all functioned fine. Nothing fancy, no facilities, but clean and but the owners are wonderful people. Wide open skies, great reception for over the air antenna and no obstructions for satellite. If you are looking for a clean, quiet place to park this is perfect. - which2
Sep 2016 - $40.00
Stayed here for Pirate ball games - SO CONVENIENT! Once you get to campground (10-15 min.s from stadium) you feel like you're out in the country! And it's actually a bit cooler at Whispering Oaks!
Not many sites but a beautiful place w/a pond and wonderful trees and lots of open space also - the dogs love it!
As our dog walker said "this is the most peaceful place in Greenville."
There is a toilet in their "barn" but for the most part you need to be self-contained - great sewer hookups. The owners are fantastic & want to make you happy. We love staying here. - Sandyhill
Sep 2016 - $40.00
We stayed here for an ECU football game. We arrived at around 9:30pm and were met by John the owner on his golf cart. He showed us to the campsite and helped us get organized. He came by again later to make sure we were all set up and happy. I spoke to him again on Saturday and mentioned there was a slight washout from recent rains. He said he would come in after we left and smooth it out. I wasn't complaining but he was very concerned with how happy we were. I'm making additional reservations. - archerspoon
Aug 2016 - $30.00
We had a nice shaded lot under oak treas on a pond. Large gravel lots, with gravel interior roads- surrounded by grass. Has no bath house-you must be self contained. No WiFi or cable. Close to all shopping and amenities. We stayed in a motor home for a month. Will stay here again. - runamuka
May 2017 - $30.00
Great restaurant across the street. A big open field but pretty with good hookups and grounds are well kept. I think all the sites are about the same. - SparksRpod
Dec 2016 - $35.00
We have stayed here 5 times in the last two years. We travel to NC frequently and enjoy staying here. It is quiet, convenient and secluded. It has extremely easy access and if you have satellite you will have no issue getting signal. Check-in is easy. Although it is not staffed 24/7, you can call and they will register you and take payment that way. But you can pick your site or even move if there is another site open you like. All sites are pull through. The campground doesn't have too many permanent residents. We were told that 30 days is max for any stay. We've booked two more stays here this year so far. If you want to enjoy the OBX then you might like staying here away from the usual seasonal crowds at the beach rv parks. It's about 1.5 hours to the beach. - Moore_RVERs
Jun 2016 - $35.00
No discount rates offered. Rates are $30 for 30 amp or $35 for 50 amp. The campground is located approximately 5 miles from US64 following narrow, but well paved country roads. The office was closed when we arrived at 4:00pm. We had made a reservation, but no information was left for us. So we just picked a site and completed the self check-in envelope. We never did see anyone at the office. All sites are large, grass, pull-thru, FHU sites. We had good satellite reception and good Verizon cell/MiFi reception. The campground free wifi also worked well. The campground was quiet during our stay. There are few amenities at this campground, but restaurants and Walmart are within a 10 minute drive at Williamston. We would stay here again. - Dave51
Apr 2016 - $27.00
We stayed one night on the way to MB. We were given a site near the golf course. Open field level site, utilities were properly located and functioned as they should. Staff was super friendly and accommodating.
The interior roads are narrow and twisty, but nothing a competent driver couldn't handle with ease. That being said is rained heavily and we left two inch ruts in the sand roads on the way out, and our camper and truck were quite messy.
I would not call this a destination campground, but it worked well as an overnight. - Pitch1
Oct 2015 - $23.00
Very narrow roads and with the rain, not easy to use. Office staff friendly and gave us suggestions on what to do. Laundry small but worked well. Owner working on roads after the rain stopped and in some cases during the rain. Lots of seasonals. Was quiet and a mile from Rt 17. If you are not comfortable with narrow roads, stay away. If you can drive your RV, this place is Good. - pegdiver
Sep 2009 - $24.00
WE DID NOT STAY AT THIS PARK. After seeing camping sign on highway late in the day, we called and was told $24.00 for W/E hook-ups. The owner told us we would have no problem navigating in his 40 year old park (this was the 1st clue to keep on driving). When we arrived and pulled in, could not turn around to get out. Tight squeezes through trees and driving on a washboard dirt road we found the office and saw the exit sign and kept right on driving. I would not let my dogs out at night and don't know how we would have made it into any of the vacant spots we saw (we have a 39' 5th wheel which we told owner when we called). It was touch and go leaving the park to miss the trees and hold onto the steering wheel due to awful road conditions. I would never stay here - madigand
397 Contentnea Drive Grifton, North Carolina 28530 (map) | (252) 524-5168

Aug 2016 - $10.00
This is a beautiful, well maintained Campground, very peaceful, right on the Contentnea river. The park is operated by the local police department and is very secure. I wish we could have stayed longer. The walking trail around the grounds is nice. It was a little confusing when we first got here. We thought one of the walking trails was an interior road. Try that in a 46 foot 5th wheel on a stormy day. - LBell690
Jun 2016 - $10.00
This is a small park in a small town. There are 10 full hookup sites with 50 amps. The road is paved and the sites are grass/gravel. There is a trailer with 3 air conditioned bathrooms and 2 outside shower stalls. The park is run by the city and you pay at the police department. We set up and drove the car to the police department, which was a short distance away. The police are in and out of the park on a regular basis. Again, there are no amenities but there is total peace and quiet. There are benches, tables and fire pits at each site. Our antenna picked up about 25 channels. We crossed a railroad track near the entrance but never heard a train in our 4 day stay. The traffic in and out of the park is very light, mostly people fishing in the river next to the park. This the best campground that we found in this area. We would stay here again. - Michael47
Apr 2016 - $10.00
We stayed just one night with friend that just bought a "new" used 5th wheel. We paid our $10.00 per site at the police department across the creek and was told to just pick whatever sites we wanted. They place was spotless and the sites were spacious. There were some sites that had updated fire rings with benches and new picnic tables but they were taken. There were large trash cans to place the trash. From what another camper told us, if you pay $5.00 they send someone to unlock the restroom for you. Not sure if that was for the entire stay or just the one time, but we didn't need it. Not much to do around the area but a nice place just to camp. - D Maier
Mar 2017 - $15.00
Spent a month here last fall, The People that own the Park are very nice, No problems at all. The park is situated within a Mobile Home park, but the residents keep to themselves. No sure of the daily rate as we stayed here a few months it was about $400 per month. - Iamgregh
Jun 2016 - $25.00
Nice quiet place to spend a few days. We really like the absence of lights shining in our windows at night. Mobil homes are away from R V area, sites are clean with no junk. Sites are large, level, well kept, grass. No pool but we don't care. - User2314
May 2016 - $22.00
I can't say enough nice things about this quiet, sleepy mobile home/rv park. We have relatives in the area which makes this a great home base. Easy access from Hwy. 64 if you are headed to the OBX. Interior roads are gravel while the long pull through sites are all grass. There is a city park close by which has 2 paved walking paths. One is a 1/2 mile and the other is 3/4 mile. A wonderful place to go walking and also has a very large children's playground.
Walmart within 1 mile. Strawberries are coming right now and right down the road is a nice Strawberry stand.
Larger shopping and restaurants in Greenville makes for a nice day trip.
Owners very accomodating and are very nice. Call and give them about 30 minutes notice before arrival and she will meet you and guide you into your site. Some sites are more level than others. All hookups are in easy access. No trees so no shade in summer but do not let this deter you from staying here!
Rate reflects Good Sam discount. Also gives a weekly and monthly rate discount. - eaglesfan
