Stayed here in our 21' travel trailer and enjoyed our time. We showed up after the check-in station had closed but instructions to select an open site and come back to mark it down were clear and easy to follow. Staff at the park was very friendly the next morning. We had a reservation(non-site specific reservations only) but there were tons of sites to choose from had we just showed up. The roads and some of the sites were a little tight for bigger rigs, but we did see some 30+ foot RV's and 5th wheels. Dump station is down the highway about 15 mins at the other NPS campground. Only a few small downsides to this campground. One, I feel like $28/night is a little expensive for dry camping. Two, if you are planning on going to do things in Kitty Hawk it is about 1hr 20mins drive from the campground. Lastly, the biting bugs here are relentless. Despite this we really enjoyed our time in this quiet, out of the way campground. We camped at Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Frisco Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Make sure to allow plenty of driving time to and from this campground and activities as the only 2 lane road in and out can get quite busy and there is construction in several places.

Most National Park campgrounds have potable water fills and dump stations at their entrance, or inside the campground. The three Cape Hatteras campgrounds we visited decided to break with this pattern and place theirs at undisclosed locations, and not necessarily near the campgrounds. (Potable water is available from spigots throughout each campground, but I have been told those are not to be used for filling fresh water tanks.) Frisco Campground was less than 1/3 full when we visited in early May. The volunteer host thought the sites were too small, and the turns too tight, for our 35 ft 5th wheel and tow vehicle. We managed with little difficulty, but another foot of length might have been too much. To fill our tank, we had to go approximately 6 miles north of the campground to a location near the Cape Hatteras lighthouse where there was a potable water spigot and dump station. While the station's features were labelled, there were no directional signs to guide you to it, nor was it noted on the literature provided upon check-in. The volunteer who checked us in provided very vague instructions for finding it. Even a Park Ranger near the lighthouse did not know its location. We camped at Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Frisco Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is one of four NP campgrounds on the outer banks of NC. The campground is located among the sand dunes in four or five loops. Some sites are close to the boardwalks to the beach and others on the hillside with beautiful views of the treetops and sea. Many sites are very private but no hookups. The beach has fine sand and is beautiful. Only one restroom is open right now but the others are expected to open by Memorial Day. The one that is open in the B loop was one of the best and cleanest on this trip. The town of Frisco is nearby with restaurants and markets and it is close to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse NPS complex. It is my favorite campground on the outer banks but no reservations. No fires are allowed except on the beach with a permit. We camped at Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Frisco Campground in a Motorhome.

Dry camping with beautiful views from the higher level campsites. Nice wind on the hill made for comfortable sleeping in mid July. Star gazing was incredible! Warm showers (only cold here) & a dump station would really help. Campground host was really helpful. Took about 15 minutes to walk to the beach - but also got an Off Road Vehiclie ORV permit to drive on the beach. No ground fires allowed. Great places to windsurf in Avon about 15 minutes north of the campground on the bay (Haulover Area. aka Canadian Hole..). Mosquitos at dark but not overwhelming- this was a nice surprise. We camped at Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Frisco Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We always enjoy this campground. This is roughing it without water or electrical at the site. You can run your generator until 9 pm. We fill the water tanks before we get in and then just add another 5 gallons each day we are here. We don't run the generator that much, and if you get a campsite at the higher level, you get a better sea breeze and view. The National Park now requires a permit to drive on the beach and it costs $50.00 for a week! $120.00 for a year. Most of the park people are nice. We camped at Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Frisco Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Great dry camping near beach. Some sites are on the road and some are tucked back in the trees. A few have view of ocean beyond the dunes. Tent campers will find more privacy than big rigs. Clean bathrooms have running water. No water or electric at sites. Showers are primitive, cold water only. Dump station is few miles away at other NPS camp ground, Cape Point. But scenery is MUCH more interesting at Frisco. Cape Point is like camping on a soccer field. Driving permitted on beach (until 10pm) and access is right outside the park. Well stocked convenience/tackle store with free air for tires located 0.5 mile from beach access. Not to be confused with Frisco Woods (which is also nice, but very different). We camped at Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Frisco Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Cost with pass $10 a night. Out site P29 near a boardwalk to the beach and the bathrooms. There are at least 127 sites at this campground and it fills up Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends but most other times you can get a site. There are no reservations here only first come first serve. This is a very pretty campground that is really spread out among the dunes with ground coverage for privacy. No hot showers but there are cold and the bathrooms are adequate and there are quite a few of them spread throughout the campground. The sites on the outer loop up on the hill are stunning – you can see the Ocean in the distance from them but we still preferred the sites near the boardwalk. This campground is in driving distance of Cape Hatteras Visitor Center, Lighthouse and Museum and the walking ranger talks and hikes through that area. It is also near the village of Hatteras where you catch a free ferry to Ocracoke Island. We loved our two night stay here even though it was windy but where is it not windy on the Outer Banks! There is another NP campground in the area Cape Point but it does not open until the weekend before Memorial Weekend. We definitely would return to this campground – it’s stunning! We camped at Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Frisco Campground in a Motorhome.

This is a National Park Service campground located on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Although there are not any hookups, the view of the ocean that some of the sites offer makes this a worthwhile stop. The sites are of medium size, but there is lots of space between sites. The campground offers a boardwalk with access to the beach. The weather was great, but watch out for mosquitoes. Unlike most NPS campgrounds this one offers a basic shower so you can clean up after spending the day in the ocean. The campground is about 20 minutes from the Cape Hatteras lighthouse. Reservations are not available, and weren't necessary as the campground was only 1/3 full. Be sure to check out the local fish markets for fresh local fish and take in a national park program. We camped at Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Frisco Campground in a Motorhome.
