First time here. Stayed for 11 days. Sites are paved. some pull thru and some back in. We were in a back in. Fairly easy to get into site. Average size site. Large enough for 12x12 screen house (which you need to sit outside at night), and still not feel closed in. Pool was very big and not overly chlorinated. We were in the the first sites past the pool that do not have sewer, BUT they have a honey wagon that comes around every morning at no additional cost and pumps all your tanks out for you. The CG is not on the main road, so it is fairly quiet. Not a lot to do for kids except swim. CATV had a good selection of channels and water pressure was good. Very grassy sites with NO fire rings. Did have good size picinic table though. Tidal creek around campground good for fishing & crabbing. You can also put your kayaks , SUP or canoe in the creek right at the campground. WIFI not good but good Verizon signal. Right near ferry landing and downtown Hatteras Village. Not far from beach access in either direction. It is obvious that this is an older campground that had become rundown before the new owners took it over about a year ago. They are making good improvements with new reworked electrical connections at all sites and new remodeled (and NICE) bath house. Staff was very friendly and always making sure our stay was good. Would recommend for anyone and will return. We camped at Hatteras Sands Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Camp store not that good, but a few smaller stores nearby and you can drive up to Buxton (about 8 miles) and go to Conners Grocery which is comparable to a Food Lion (which is almost 30 miles away in Avon). If going to catch ferry to Ocracoke, go early (before 9) or go late (after 4 to get in line. During summer it can be busy. There is a hardware store in Hatteras and ONE gas station, but will have to drive to Frisco or Buxton for more gas stations.

Staff was very nice. Many sites are right on the canals. Very close to the ferry. Nice pool with very little shade. Cable was out and had been out for several days, but weren't told until we were settled in and hooked up to everything else. They said they would contact the cable company, but we never had service. They also have attractive little cottages to stay in. We camped at Hatteras Sands Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Great place to catch the Hatteras/Ocracoke ferry, because the lines can get very long and the wait times can brutal, so make sure you catch the early or very late ferries. Great place to stay and we'll stay here again.

This is the best campground to stay at if you plan to visit Ocracoke Island. The ferry is only about 1 mile away. Our site in the corner on the canal was great for the first 2 days while the park was fairly empty. On the 3rd day the weekend campers came and we felt like we were crowded in the corner. If your looking for a campsite on the beach this is not the place, but the canal is a great place to fish or just watch the wildlife or a beautiful sunset from your campsite. This is a good place to relax and enjoy the quieter end of the OBX. We were told after we checked in, that the cable TV was not working. The WIFI did not work well most of the time. The pool is large and clean. The showers and restrooms are clean. There is no store for basic supplies at the campground, and stores in Hatteras Village are very limited. Stock up before you get here. I would probably stay here again if I plan to visit the OBX again. We camped at Hatteras Sands Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Be sure to visit the "Graveyard of the Atlantic" museum. It's located near the ferry docks. It's very educational and it's free. Donations are accepted.

Be sure to get in line at the Ocracoke ferry early before the lines get too long. First come first served only, no reservations but it's free. Ocracoke is a beautiful island with lots of interesting sites and things to do.

This is an okay park, except beware of the white unthreaded pipes next to the water & electric at "full hookup" sites. If you put your sewer hose into one and let loose, you will create a mess as you try to dump into a water cutoff valve. Makes starting with a little bit of grey water to make sure all's well an even more important practice. Hatteras Villages charges for "full" hookups because an employee comes around occasionally with a honey wagon. Other than that, this place in the middle of Hatteras has narrow and short paved sites and sporadic WiFi. While the cost is relatively high, you're on the Outer Banks and near such landmarks as the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. The only "resort" feature noted was a swimming pool, empty in early May. We camped at Hatteras Sands Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There are no supermarkets worthy of the name within 60 miles so stock up before you arrive. The Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum is worth a couple hours on a rainy afternoon but a lot of the exhibits are only tangentially related to the graveyard theme, e.g., a history of scuba diving instruction and equipment, the sportfishing industry, etc.

Rate represents an end of season weekly special. It might be different during the summer when the place is packed but at the end of the season like this its delightful. Super nice, friendly staff. We parked in a water site along a canal for an extra charge. In these sites asphalt pads are wide enough to put all 4 wheels on with grass between the adequately sized sites - plenty of room for slides, awnings, etc. Looks like it might be a different story in the interior locations - they appear smaller. No trees or shade at any of the sites. Beautiful pool. Utilities are all good and the WIFI is very good. Laundry room was clean but only 1 washer (out of 2) was working. They close for the season on Nov 1 so apparently they're not replacing it. Conveniently located to ferry, beach, restaurants, and one general store around the corner. Closest grocery is 10 miles away. They're still working on the place but a lot of the improvements have apparently been made. We'd definitely come here again. We camped at Hatteras Sands Resort in a Motorhome.

This campground is located in the Southern Part of Hatteras. It is quite obvious that this campground has seen better days and that new ownership is in the process of getting it back to its glory. The campground location is in Hatteras Village, which is a small fishing community and really close to the ferry to Ocracoke. We spent 4 days at the campground and we were staying on the island part of the campground. Upon our arrival we called the campground to notify them that we would be arriving late. We did not realize that the traffic through Virginia and OBX would be so bad. The only road/ route into OBX varies from 25 to 55 miles per hour. Therefore it takes several hours traveling 100 miles on OBX to get into the campground. The staff left us a map of the campground and told us we could check in the following day. We were given a map on how to get to the island portion of the campground. We settled in just fine. The pedestal was easy to get to as well as water and sewer. They even provided the cable wire which was long enough to reach our trailer. I will say that the 30amp was not a full 30amps. We tripped the breaker several times with our ac and electric water heater. The campground is slowly making improvements. There is a new bath house and laundry room. The pool was very big. They do have 2 hot tubs but neither was in operation. They had very long weeds and plants growing in them. The campground is very close to beaches, the ferry, and fishing piers. One last item that was a major set back for people on the main part of the campground. We had a significant rainfall during one of the nights/morning and the water does not drain so well. The excessive rainfall caused water to get into the sewage and the system overflowed onto the ground. Again hopefully the renovations will continue to happen and items like this can be fixed. We camped at Hatteras Sands Resort in a Travel Trailer.

The park is located in Hatteras Village, a quaint small town, at the very South end of Hatteras Island. They cater to all sorts of campers from Motor Coaches to tents. The new owners are working very hard to bring this park back to its former glory. I understand that it had been neglected for years before they bought it. There is a huge pool, newly remodeled bath house, laundry, new pedestals being installed, and a game room.

The beaches are awesome and pet friendly. Lots of fishing and boating available. Just a really neat adventure that I think should be on everyone's bucket list.

I didn't give it a perfect rating because it still has a bit of improving to do. The owners have another park in Williamsburg VA that is a 10-10-10. I'm convinced this park will be the same in a very short time. We camped at Hatteras Sands Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Several marinas close by, ferry to Ocracoke Island, beaches- beaches- beaches, the famous Hatteras Lighthouse. Be sure to pick up supplies before you arrive since the nearest Wal-Mart is more than an hour away. However, they have a great grocery store seven miles North, and usually a fruit and vegetable stand during the high season.

We stayed here 4 nights. Many of the sites were not available due to upgrades that were taking place. The campground was clean and the bathrooms were newly renovated. The only 2 negatives were that the pads were very narrow. Right at 8 feet and the roads were also quite narrow. Our site also flooded every time it rained. We loaded up in 4 inches of water. We camped at Hatteras Sands Resort in a Travel Trailer.

The price was a special - stay 4 nights and pay for only 3. The park was badly hurt in 2011 in a hurricane, but it is repairing and improving. The large bath house has been redone in lovely tile. Workmen were repairing the laundry facility when we were there. The main pool is very large and clean, but the baby wading pool was not operational. The cabins have all been renovated and painted a lovely rainbow of colors. We found it very convenient - less than a mile from the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum or the beach. The park is built around canals which make it cooler, and a great place for fishing or kayaking. We also liked the fact that the sites were grassy with very little sand. A great advantage at the beach. We would definitely stay here again if we go back to the OBX. We camped at Hatteras Sands Resort in a Motorhome.

We will stay again if in the area. The work camper running the place and the staff were great. There is awesome raw seafood 1/4 mile walk from back of campground. Wi-Fi was spotty. They were working on "details" in the bathhouse the 3 days we stayed. We camped at Hatteras Sands Resort in a Motorhome.

This Park is under reconstruction. The bath house and Cabins are being repaired. That said the pool and sauna were nice. The cable had many channels but, the WiFi was weak at times. Wind was very strong w/ no fault to the campground. Very secluded area-near Ferry to Oracoke Island. We would stay here again. We camped at Hatteras Sands Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Park has seen its better days but it is under new ownership and renovations have begun. The bathhouse is just about done. Presently there is no laundry facility and the pool needs to be drained and cleaned. Sites are paved as are the interior roads. Sites are level and spacing between each is OK. The problem is that the majority of the sites are small in depth, making it difficult to park you rig and vehicle in the space. As a result I can see a real traffic problem if the park is anywhere near full. Cars would have to park on the roadway which would then make it difficult to back into spaces or maneuver around the roads. We were fortunate as it is off season and nobody was here. WiFi is free and works so that is a plus. Best value of the other parks on the island but you are far away from the major tourist sites. I would stay again only because of the price. We camped at Hatteras Sands Resort in a Truck Camper.

Overall a very enjoyable week. Wi-Fi had to be reset many times. Spots had a lot of grass, and were paved under the rig. It was run by the on site owners who were very involved in the day to day running of the resort. The pool is huge and a lot fun. The owners were very personable and accommodating. Ice cream socials and pancake breakfast were enjoyable. Extremely pet friendly park!!!! Charged $2.00/ per day for pets. We camped at Hatteras Sands Resort in a Motorhome.

Very disappointed. No beach or sound access. The sewer system was full in our area of four campers but was not emptied before our arrival. Our children were walking in the tank overflow (human waste) so they came to pump it out at dinner time and then again at breakfast in a near by site. No appetite then! Bath houses clean but closed at odd times, when you really needed to use them. Same with the store. Staff was somewhat rude. We will not camp here again.
