I have been traveling for a month in my RV and this has been my favorite place so far...... What an absolutely gorgeous place to camp! So cheap too!!! - Lots of spots right on the water. Large shady trees. Sites are far apart. Fire pit. Picnic table. Electric and water at site. Dump on the way out. There is a gas station just a mile down the road if you need anything. There was a bald eagle that stopped by every evening after catching his fish for the night .... Random things to mention, other campers mentioned that you should call the park to check the water level before booking. Many visited in the Spring when the lake flooded the campsites and on my stay, the water was very very low leaving 100 feet to the beach. Also, the sites seem very un-level, depending on where you are. If I came back, the BEST SITES with a view are: 54 (water on three sides!!!!! It is magic!!!!) And 40 and 39 are beautiful sites on the water. We camped at Kerr Lake SRA - Satterwhite Point/J. C. Cooper Campground in a Motorhome.

Fee reflects $20 for weekday, off season for E/W plus $3 transaction fee. On the good side, this campground is on a pretty lake. Lots of good shade. Sites are gravel, most fairly level. Nice walks through the campground. Very handy to I-85, and open year-round. However, there is only one shower/bathhouse for the entire campground (over 100 sites), including a number of tent sites that would have no choice but to use the facilities. I don't normally mark down a campground for bathhouses that aren't particularly clean because you never know who is cleaning it that week and maybe the next week it will be spotless. This one, though, was filthy, with mold on the shower walls. General grounds upkeep left a lot to be desired, too. The leaves were so thick I could only identify the campground road by the lack of trees and the sites by their post markers. Perhaps the campground is kept up better during the season. I sure do hope so! Meanwhile, at least it is a handy place to stop if traveling along I-85 near the VA-NC border. We camped at Kerr Lake SRA - Satterwhite Point/J. C. Cooper Campground in a Motorhome.

A nice state park campground. Location was awesome with plenty of sites with great views. The most level sites appear to be on the inner loops. Our loop had lots of construction as they are removing trees and replacing the sites with new timbers and gravel. No cable, and we did not get great OTA reception on TV or radio. Had 4G with US Cellular. The frost free spigot did not cooperate with our pressure regulator and we kept losing prime so had keep resetting and finally removed regulator. Trash cans at every site. Will definitely return. We camped at Kerr Lake SRA - Satterwhite Point/J. C. Cooper Campground in a Motorhome.

This state park has a very friendly, helpful staff. They repaired our electric service shortly after we reported the problem. This campground is designed in the past, when small travel trailers were common. Winding roads are very narrow and paved but extremely rough with lots of trees and many low hanging branches. Campsites are stone and dirt and not especially level. Some sites are water front with a lovely view of Lake Kerr (pronounced Car), and all have an OK picnic table and fire pit. Some water hookups are a very long way from your unit (50+'). Restrooms are a long way from some sites. No WiFi is available, but we did get a few OTA TV stations. We noticed barking dogs tied outside and left alone and poop not cleaned up. It was very quiet during the week, and super crowded on the weekend. We would recommend weekdays. We camped at Kerr Lake SRA - Satterwhite Point/J. C. Cooper Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Rate included $3.00 online reservation service fee. Nearly all spots have views of the lake, about half are on the lake. Our spot was a huge pull through (more than enough for 18' HTT and truck), but required leveling blocks. Water and electric were less than 25' (although some sites require 50' or more). Only one (short, 0.75 mile) hiking trail. The marina (private) is nearby, and there are lots of playgrounds for kids and a beach swimming area. We camped at Kerr Lake SRA - Satterwhite Point/J. C. Cooper Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This was our first time staying at this State Park campground at Kerr Lake. It was fantastic. My only complaint is we specifically booked a spot right beside bathrooms (just the toilets) in Loop 1 because our camper doesn't have a toilet, only for us to find them locked! I'm sure it was due to it being off season, but it would have been nice to know, then we could have booked a site closer to the larger bathhouse. Overall, the sites were nice and level for the most part. You can see that water from basically all of them. We really enjoyed ourselves. We camped at Kerr Lake SRA - Satterwhite Point/J. C. Cooper Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is our fourth time camping at Kerr Lake; that last two times at Satterwhite Point, both times in November when the park is so quiet. We love this park. The entry into the camping spots can be a little narrow but manageable with our 43 foot motorcoach. Our loop lost power during out last visit and the park personnel were very quick to address it. We also had a water heating issue so we used the showers on site. They were certainly dated but clean and provided hot water and a warm room. The only negative is a visit to the local WalMart where a person parked near us removed one of our towing pins for no reason other than being a jerk. We had to drive 75 miles out of our way to replace the pin. No reflection on the park but left a bad taste in our mouth. We camped at Kerr Lake SRA - Satterwhite Point/J. C. Cooper Campground in a Motorhome.

My wife and I stayed just one night to give this spot a try. We were very pleased with the campground. Our site was on the lake and we had shade from the trees. It was clean and neat, but kinda tight to back in. We needed a longer hose because the spigot was more than 50 ft away. The lake is great for swimming, fishing, and boating, but bring water shoes as the beach has rocks on it. We will be coming back to stay here longer next time. We camped at Kerr Lake SRA - Satterwhite Point/J. C. Cooper Campground in a Tent Trailer.

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

$19 per night (which included a $3/day transaction fee whether you book online or in person and a senior discount of $6/night) was for a mostly level packed sand site with 30-amp electric and water. Our site #97 had complete tree coverage, as did all of the sites in the J. C. Cooper campground loop at Satterwhite Point. There was a wooden picnic table and fire ring on the generous site. The facility as a whole is well maintained and very attractive. As stated above, there are trees throughout the campground so you have to be aware of them as you drive around; use caution. There were some very large units camping here so it is possible to get most any RV into the campground. All employees we encountered were friendly and helpful. It was a very quiet campground during our stay. Boating/fishing on the beautiful lake were the main activities for the campers. AT&T service was four bars of 4G LTE and Verizon service was three bars of 4G LTE. We used our Verizon jetpack to access the internet. We received 18 digital over-the-air TV stations and many radio stations. We camped at Kerr Lake SRA - Satterwhite Point/J. C. Cooper Campground in a Motorhome.
