Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at Red Gates in a 22 foot trailer. We were guided to our site. More about that later. Our site #20 was not too tight to get into (parked cars were moved to get us into our site). We had to back up hill to get our trailer into the site. We used 30 amp, and had electric and sewer. WiFi was average, we were warned to keep any heavy use down (as they had limited bandwidth). We had a porch / deck at our site: a plus.

The tenting area was right behind us, and no one was there our weekend. This gave us a big area for our dogs.

Positives: We were literally close to everything. Waterfalls, apple farms, wineries, and microbrews, Asheville itself. The park was fairly quiet, and there was little road noise. Though you could hear a lot from the neighborhood right beside us. Access into the park was not hard. Our trailer and F 250 got in and out pretty easily. The camp hostess was accessible, and very knowledgeable of the area and attractions. "Easy peasy lemon squeezy" was her motto for everything.

Negatives: The park was small, and pretty tight. We had a "corner site" with site #20, so we only had one tight neighbor to our canopy side. They really didn't have true fire rings for campfires. You had to rent a fire type device you would buy at Lowe's (for your back cement pad behind your house). Wood was $5.00 for a tiny bundle. That seems to be the way of campgrounds these days, so I can't pin the blame only on Red Gates. Too bad a campground couldn't see the value of adequate wood and fire rings!

The bath house was CLEAN! Small, but spotless. Utility connections were very good and close to your trailer.

The only thing that weirded me out was the camp guard. He had a tent site just 2 sites down from mine. He was positioned to watch all the comings, goings, and all things Red Gates. You always felt his eyes and that was creepy. I get it that you have to have some security, but really? We didn't hate our stay. Overall enjoyed our stay. We camped at Red Gates Cottages and RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

A very small park, maybe 20 sites, but if you're fortunate to snag a spot, it will be worth it. We came in early enough to walk around the lake and it was so peaceful. Then they hosted a bbq and everyone showed up. Good food, lots of laughter with new folks and even some music in the form of a talented fiddler. The site didn't have any trees so great satellite position, but the picnic area had shade trees and the breeze was just what we needed. This was only an overnight spot for us this time, but we're looking forward to coming back to relax and check out the area. Definitely read the website for information on the entrance. It's a narrow road, but we were able to get in with our 42' Fifth wheel. (we don't know the actual price for the park because they had overbooked for the weekend so we were trying to find another place to stay when they called us back and said they had an opening coming up, and blessed us with a free night for the confusion) Super service, especially since it was a holiday weekend. We camped at Red Gates Cottages and RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This was my first experience, so I don't have any other RV parks to compare to, but I can tell you that we were impressed with this small park (approx. 20 RV sites). We were very lucky to have found a site especially at the last minute on a 4th of July week-end. The park had a cancellation and we were able to fill that spot. The hosts were pleasant in helping get situated on the site very quickly. They even hosted a cookout for all the campers that wanted to come. We were looking for something inexpensive, peaceful, clean and in a location close to things to visit and this is what this place was! We are already looking forward to going back to this area and will definitely go to Red Gates RV Park. We camped at Red Gates Cottages and RV Park in a Motorhome.

This is a small park hidden in the woods. Roads and sites (mosty level) are gravel separated by some grass. Stayers appear to occupy the exterior shaded sites and overnight customers are placed in the sunny interior sites. Sites are full hook-up and there is free wifi with a good signal. There is a laundry. The hosts were super friendly and helpful. The approximately 150-yard gravel entrance road is one lane with no shoulders. In my 3 or 4 trips in and out of the park, I did not meet another vehicle, but if I had, one of us would have had to back up. There are nearby stores (Super Walmart, Ingles grocery) and gas stations. I did not see any cottages, but there were multiple tents and I believe the name is now Red Gates Tents and RV Park. This was a quiet park good for a few days stay. I received a Passport America rate of $20 for 3 nights, although I do not see the park listed on the PassPort America website. Regular rate is $40. We camped at Red Gates Cottages and RV Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed for two (2) days in a truck camper. Our lot #10 was small and had nice afternoon shade. We did not have to deploy our awnings like others did. The roadway and all the lots had new gravel and leveled in Nov we were told. Entrance road is narrow with deep gullies on both sides. The park was super clean and grass mowed. Tv was by antenna or dish, no wifi that I was aware of. Bathrooms were clean and newly painted. The manager Anne was still painting up a storm and she installed hanging plants on the ladies side of the bathhouse. Looked good. Hey Anne what about the men's side !!! Park was super quiet, restfull and adult oriented. If you just want to get away from it all try Red Gates. If you need activities and alot of things to do go somewhere else. THIS PARK IS WHERE YOU GO TO RECHARGE. Hey we will be back !!!! We camped at Red Gates Cottages and RV Park in a Truck Camper.

Very friendly service and extremely helpful in helping us set up are new/used camper for the first time. We are locals and are getting to know the local camping sites, because we rent our RV. I would recommend this site to anyone in the Hendersonville /Asheville area. It even has a pond for great fishing, and is close to everything. A small, quiet park in a wooded area. Park is a short drive down a gravel road...so no road noise. Nice grounds with nicely mown grass, flowers, a small pond. No swimming pool, but pond has one rental paddle boat and a small, but uninviting looking, swimming area. Horseshoes adjacent to pond. Park your RV on gravel, step out onto a concrete pad with picnic table. Some shaded sites. No office; park managers live in a travel trailer. Clean, basic, pleasant restrooms, showers and laundry room. If you are looking for an RV Park with lots of services...this isn't it. It's best for those who prefer a small, quiet RV Park with nice grounds. We camped at Red Gates Cottages and RV Park in a Motorhome.

For a small campground (only 20 sites) , we were well pleased. Grounds were well cared for and the host/hostess were very helpful and friendly. There are no amenities except a small lake to fish. The bath house was kept clean even though it was an older building. It was a nice peaceful place to stay even though it was about 2 miles to I-26 and downtown Hendersonville. We camped at Red Gates Cottages and RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed in this terrific little RV park a month during the summer of 2016. It has just a couple of dozen sites for RVs & tents, with plenty of space between adjacent sites. The interior roads are gravel and narrow, but well maintained. The sites are 'natural' meaning they have not been graded, but they were sited so that most RVs can be leveled without too much difficulty. The park is owned by the family that founded it in the days after WWII. Overseen by a pair of very friendly and kind sisters, and it is managed by workampers, a couple who went out of their way to make us welcome and comfortable. The park lacks up-to-date recreational facilities and the cabin part of it has a run-down look to it. However, the grounds are very well maintained and nicely landscaped. The park has no cable TV, but there are some 20 broadcast channels available. The camp WiFi signal is fairly strong, the bandwidth generally allows good connections to the internet, with occasional problems during peak times of the day. Cellular service for both T-Mobile and AT&T were adequate for alternative hot-spot coverage. Overall, we really enjoyed our time here, and will look forward to returning in the future. We camped at Red Gates Cottages and RV Park in a Motorhome.

This is a very small park with no pool or recreational facilities. However, for our purposes of meeting with friends in the area, it was perfect. The only drawbacks were an extremely tight entrance/exit onto a one lane driveway. We had the camp host go out on the road to keep the driveway clear when we left. There is no wifi but we brought our own. We will use this park again when in the area. We camped at Red Gates Cottages and RV Park in a Motorhome.

Quiet, lots of trees in wooded area, close to Hendersonville but out in the countryside, picnic table. They had nice stone driveways.

Poor WiFi, only cash or checks, small park limited pull through spaces, some sites very close quarters, inconvenient sewer hook-ups, laundry room very rustic - no table, no coin machines, no soap dispenser, many permanent residents, open seasonally, some tent camping.

Overall we enjoyed our stay and it worked for a fall get-a-way but the park itself was just okay because of the location and price. You get what you pay for. We didn't use the showers or restrooms but the building and grounds were maintained and not run down. Campground hosts were friendly and pleasant. We camped at Red Gates Cottages and RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Hendersonville is very close with an Ingles food store which was great and close by plus a charming downtown area. Lots of wineries, farmers market, orchards, near Ashville, Flat Rock (Think Carl Sandburg's home), small playhouse in Flat Rock, Hendersonville and nearby Brevard. Fantastic drives and waterfalls, great area to tour, especially in the fall.

We were pleasantly surprised about this park. We actually extended our stay while there. The hosts are fabulous. He was so full of information not only about the local area, but he has been RVing so long, he could tell you about just about any park and attraction in the USA. And you will love their dog Dutchess. Site was level and easy in/out and the park is quiet and secluded. The lake was very low but they say they are working on fixing the dam. If it was not raining the whole time we were there, it would have been a perfect place to spend more time. We camped at Red Gates Cottages and RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

St. Pauls Vineyard and Burntshirt Vineyards are within a few minutes of the park - one you could even walk to if you wanted to. Apples are a big thing in Hendersonville so stop by some orchards. Several waterfalls and the Blue Ridge Parkway are nearby.

Moose Cafe. This is down home cooking. And if you leave hungry, it is your own fault. The portions are huge.

We stayed at Red Gate for a month while looking for property to purchase. The manager/owner was the sweetest lady. It's a no-frills campground, but clean and tidy. Most spots are shaded by large trees. Plus they recycle. Great location across from a winery and minutes from downtown Hendersonville with cute shops and cafes. Around 20 minutes to Chimney Rock. We plan to come back here and stay. We camped at Red Gates Cottages and RV Park in a Motorhome.

Stayed at this campground one night, and it was one very long night. This campground is nothing like the website depicts! It is occupied mostly by long term residents that have been there for quite sometime. The owner was very nice. The facilities were scary., not kept up and in disrepair. The pond appears to be very dirty and not kept up at all. Wasn't a quiet, serene place in our opinion. We camped at Red Gates Cottages and RV Park in a Motorhome.
