This park sits right on the Albemarle Sound on the west side of the main thoroughfare - Highway 158. It's a few miles off the beaten path and down a residential gravel road. What a pleasant surprise upon our arrival! The immaculately mowed park features acres of green grass and all back in sites. The sites are HUGE - so even terrible backers (US!) have no problem maneuvering into these sites. Our site backed up to the sound and we had nice views of kayakers, paddle boarders and jet skiers enjoying themselves on the sound. The sites are gravel pads with picnic tables. If you don't need a pool or clubhouse and like plenty of elbow room - you will LOVE this park! We camped at OBX Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Attractions on the northern end of the Outer Banks include: Wright Brothers Memorial, Currituck Lighthouse, Jennette's Pier, and be sure to spend a day at the beach in Kill Devil Hills or Nags Head (our favorite sections of beach!)

Overall Rating:

Beautiful campground close to the Outer Banks action, but off the beaten path. You'll pass rear side of Wright Bros Memorial to get there. Very large sites (triple the width of other CGs we've camped in). Beautiful green grassy areas. Entrance road is hardpacked gravel & bumpy; take it slow on entry & exit. Somewhat limited line of sight on exit due to curved road. Some shady sites. Grounds well kept; nice registration office. Staff very friendly & informative. Great referrals to restaurants & fresh fish market right down the road. Great central location for day trips to north & south ends of the OB. We stayed 4 nights & would definitely stay here again. We camped at OBX Campground in a Travel Trailer.

OBX Campground is an oasis on the Outer Banks since it's on Colington Island away from all the tourist traffic. It's a peaceful, beautiful location from which to explore all the sights. We spent three wonderful nights there. We camped at OBX Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We have stayed here several times and each time the staff is friendly and helpful. We hadn't made reservations very far in advance and initially had some trouble getting a site for every night because of a nearby Bluegrass festival. However, the park worked with me on a nearly daily basis and we were eventually able to stay in a site we wanted for the entire stay. There is also a one-free-night discount for a complete-week stay. They park is friendly and quiet. Downsides are dust from the gravel roads and the fact that a trip to the beach requires a drive. However, the overall experience is quite pleasant and it is definitely our preferred campground in the Outer Banks area. We camped at OBX Campground in a Motorhome.

Small, slightly out of the way (yet still convenient) campground on a canal near Wright Brother's Memorial. Was very quiet and pretty with large grassy areas and canal view (from a distance). Sites are spacious with full hook-ups. There do seem to be several long-term people there but the water view sites are for short-term. Friendly staff, no complaints...would consider again if in the area but it would not be a destination campground for us. We camped at OBX Campground in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

This was an OK park, but very overpriced relative to the amenities and the season. We were there in May (pre-peak season) and I thought that the nightly rate, with no discounting, was quite high. It was a gravel and grass site, and got pretty muddy when it rained. The cable was antiquated and required that we hook up their converter box .... not an easy task in a Class A motorhome with lots of sophisticated electronics installed. Only wanted the cable to watch Stanley Cup playoffs, as there were very few OTA channels and we scaled back our satellite plan to bare bones. Oh well .... we survived! Overall, we found this area of the Outer Banks to be crowded, commercialized, and few nice campground options. We liked the Waves area much more. I would not stay here again. We camped at OBX Campground in a Motorhome.

This small, secluded park is off the main drag offering protection from the wind, close proximity to an inlet, and quiet camping. It is close to the main tourist draw: the Wright Brothers National Memorial; and the main summer getaway draw: the Atlantic Ocean. The Outer Banks is loaded with commercial enterprises to assist travelers who are here briefly or long term. Park sites are spacious and mostly level. Staff is friendly and helpful. Wifi is adequate. Laundry facilities are not: two washers (one not working) and two driers. No cable tv, but plenty of open sky for satellite reception on most sites-especially the eastern sites . We enjoyed our stay here. We camped at OBX Campground in a Motorhome.

I stayed at obx for the very first time, and was exceptionally pleased when I first entered the park. Easy to find, easy to enter the park, easy to find your campsite. Even though it was not crowded at this time of the year, I could tell there was plenty of room between campers. Level ground. I like the ground, gravel roads, gravel driveway which your camper rode on, and nice clean grass. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful. The grounds were only five or ten minutes from the main action. Actually, it was ten minutes from the Wright Brother's Museum. The only CON, I felt, was the price to stay there $70.00 a night with no discounts, but if I go back to the outer banks, I will definitely stay here. We camped at OBX Campground in a Motorhome.

We were there during the off season so did not have many neighbors. Presumably because it was off-season, the office had limited hours. The park is in a nice location - right on the water and off the busy main drag but convenient to stores / restaurants. Its $70 in season which is pricey and the $50 off-season rate was pricey as well. The showers and restrooms are very nice and clean. We camped at OBX Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The Saltwater Grille was very nice and you could walk there from the campground. As others have said, the outside ambiance is lacking, but once inside, its very nice. The park is close to the Wright Brothers memorial which is worth visiting but note that the visitor center is under renovation until sometime in 2018. Its worth the drive through the national seashore all the way down to Cape Hatteras lighthouse and the town of Hatteras. You can take a ferry past that if you want to see it all. Jockey Ridge State park is nearby too and fun to hike up the sand dunes. You will likely see hang gliders here too getting lessons.

This park is overpriced for what you get. The sites are ample sized but mostly dirt and grass. We had to constantly sweep sand out of our RV. Utilities are adequate and the location is OK, but not near any beach access. We stayed for 3 nights which was far too long. We camped at OBX Campground in a Motorhome.

We stayed a weekend at OBX Campground towards the end of the "Peak" Season for the Outer Banks. The reservation was made by phone and was easy enough. The check in was after hours and they had a nice package with all the information we needed at the office. The sites are long enough for our 31' TT and tow vehicle attached. They all appear to be back in but with plenty of room, in fact, there is enough room for another site in between the sites. Our site was gravel, level with a picnic table and full hookups towards the rear corner of the camper. Our site had a spectacular view of the river and was plenty private. It was quiet and well maintained by the friendly owners who were very gracious and even promptly returned our call after hours for check-in instructions. We will definitely stay again, though the price was a bit steep for the few amenities that we would not use, it was worth it for the location, peace, and quiet. We camped at OBX Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Good location in the middle of the Outer Banks making visiting the north and south ends of the island doable. Turning down the entry street was telling as it was potholed and dusty gravel. When you arrive in the park its more of the same without the potholes.
We had a site on the end with a great view over the water. All services were up to spec. Fortunately satellite reception was good (no trees) since they charge $20 for a cable box rental. This fee applies the same whether you stay 1 night or 30 and since we were only there 2 nights we didn't need to get it.
All in all it seems as though this was the best choice in the area. If you drive 40 miles south towards Cape Hatteras there are a couple parks with good ocean access. We camped at OBX Campground in a Motorhome.
