This is a wonderful campground, and in our estimation the best value for $ spent. Campsites are roomy, although some have hook-ups on the "wrong side." This was not a problem as we carry plenty of extensions. Best of all: fantastic free WiFi!!! It worked flawlessly during our entire 14 day stay. Staff was extremely pleasant. US Mail/UPS/FedEx directly to Reception Office is a big plus for full-timers. Easy walk to public beach access. Bathhouse and toilets are a bit dated, and although clean, are in need of an upgrade.

If coming from the south you might wish to consider the Southport - Ft Fisher Ferry. The ferry accommodates RVs, is very affordable, and cuts driving time as you bypass the city of Wilmington.

We will happily stay here again. We camped at Fort Fisher Air Force Rec Area (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

First time here. I made reservations for 4 nights for full hookups, 50 amps. When we arrived, the staff in reception told us not to hook up our septic because the lift station wasn't working. We discovered later that it hadn't worked in months. Now that's not full hookups, is it? We still had to pay the full rate. They suggested we use the camp restrooms and gave us a site near the showers. They were individual rooms, a bit dated but cleaned daily (we saw the cleaning staff) and definitely old. As someone who likes showering and using the restroom in my own rig, it was a bit inconvenient for us not to be able to connect to septic.
Our site was a pull in. The electric and water were on the correct side, the septic was in the front (wrong) side. Pad was concrete. Roads were paved. Site was long and very level. No wifi so we used our jetpack. A couple sites were shady but most were open to the sky. No dogpark but lots of acreage to walk the dogs.
It's a small open base. No Exchange or commissary. The area is quiet, the beach is across the street. I'd stay here again but will make sure we can hook up to septic next time. We camped at Fort Fisher Air Force Rec Area (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

What a surprise this place was. It is about 2 miles south of Kure Beach. The first impression you get is from the brightly painted WWII quarters that are now guest houses. They look pretty beat up on the outside, but are reportedly okay inside (and there is a program to replace them). Further on there is a small RV park on the right side. If you continue on to the museum you will find the registration building and some more sites. Only one site by the registration building is 50 amp. The others in the RV park have 30 amp. In all cases the utilities are in some odd places. You need to have sewer, water, and electric extensions to place your RV where you would want it. The registration building has a gift shop. The pool and bar & grill were still closed (open Memorial day). All utilities are good. Cable is great. WiFi is almost non-existent. For WiFi, go park next to the rec center, or building 122. There is no dog run, but there are acres of places to walk your dog. There is a boat launch and fishing pier. If you have AT&T the service is very bad. Canoes, bikes, and golf carts are for rent. Our recommendation is go drive to Southport, and take the ferry over the river ($15). You do not have to unhook, and they take class A's. If you take the ferry, just head north on "the" road, and Fort Fisher is only about half a mile. As others have said, this is a hidden gem. Recommend you call for reservations. Camped here for 8 days at RV#7. This site was a great shaded site. We had to pull in and set-up, due to the utilities, but it worked out great. Location is the key to this campground, and I will be coming back. The recreation center and pool was great. The staff for this facility go out of their way to assist in any way they can. Sites were concrete and level. VERY close to the beach and sound. Campground has a fishing pier for the sound. While we were there, they had a concert for everyone, and it was well administered. This place is definitely a GEM. They are currently working on water for the RV sites, but never had a outage. They are spending money on the facilities, but you are dealing with the government. Can't wait until my next stay! We camped at Fort Fisher Air Force Rec Area (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

What a gem. Across the street from the ocean, and the bay right on the base. Host did everything he could to keep us from moving, but we did not have reservations so we had to move once while we were here. I would have given all 5 stars but the laundry area was not clean and some of the facilities were not offered in the winter months, like the gym. We will stay at this facility again when in the area. We camped at Fort Fisher Air Force Rec Area (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Military FAM camp with standard rate per night so a very good deal. Not too many sites, so book early. Long deep sites with no obstructions for RV slideouts. Basic cable TV, but had 'snow' on all channels for two days. Some sites have the hook ups on the incorrect side (non-standard older set up), so you can either park the RV in the opposite direction, or bring extension cords and extra hoses. Still a great deal because so close to beach activities! We camped at Fort Fisher Air Force Rec Area (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Superior camp ground! You must be military, retired or active or have a retired/acitve military sponsor with you to camp here. We have been here several times. There is nothing negitive to say! Visit the website, too many amenities to list here. You name it, they have it. The staff is outstanding and go out of their way to make your stay pleasant. Great fishing! Hot in summer so bring a fan or AC. No electric in the tent area. Water front views only in tent area or RV overflow area I personally prefer the RV overflow, no sewer hookup but nice, shady and close to the Cape Fear river. We camped at Fort Fisher Air Force Rec Area (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.
