Basics: power is only available at the sites 20/30/50. Each site has a fire ring picnic table, and lantern pole. Sites are pretty level and all the sites have power except those along the river. The roads are paved and easy to get around on the sites are gravel. There is no wifi but Verizon Mifi and phone works well. The bathrooms look like they get cleaned once a week or so if they need it or not. The showers are pretty lame they only have 2 working showers and the hot water runs out pretty fast with poor pressure. One thing they do here that I could get no good answer for is lock the gate at 5 pm. I heard several people having a rather loud discussion with the host about this. We talked to a lady host who said they don't really lock the gate just shut it. However there was a lock on it that was locked when I looked. This seems to be something they do all over North Carolina but I've never seen them do it this early. A note on the price, it is going to go up in 2018 to $20/day without the senior discount plus the power charge. The host at this CG were giving a 50% discount on power which everywhere else I found they charge the full $7 and gave no discount on that. I can't address the fresh water issue at the dump as we did not use it. This CG is close to New Bern but the closest shopping is in Havelock. The CG has hiking trails, a beach, and is close to many paddling opportunities. It is also only a few miles from Cherry Point Marine Air Station and those folks train most every day so you get to hear the "Sound of Freedom" on a regular basis. On the plus side I did not hear them training in the middle of the night or too early in the morning. We'd stay here again if we're in the area but I'd get the lock in question cleared up before we do. We camped at Flanners Beach Campground in a Motorhome.

First of all-this campground is known as Flanners Beach. We loved this campground except for one thing...the water situation. For the week we were there there was no fresh water at the dump station (Sites do not have water) and only 1 shower out of 3 available. We saw no evidence that anyone was addressing this issue and by the morning we left, when I went to use the shower the shower head was off the wall and the "shower" was a stream of water that flowed out of the wall. They are push bottom so this involved moving as the pressure changed. However, the shower was clean at all times. There was a hose hooked up outside the bathhouse and numerous spirits located in the campground loop for filling your tank. Bathroom taps have only cold water. The shower water got hot but there is no temp control. The sites were, for the most part, large and private though the ones with river views seemed to be smaller with no privacy. There is a 1 mile paved bike trail that winds around and 3 miles of dirt hiking/biking trails as well. There is a nice beach and day use parking area. A put in for canoes and kayaks is at the north end of the parking lot. We camped at Flanners Beach Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

New Bern is an interesting, historical, and charming town and only 20 min away. If nothing else visit Tryon Palace. Lots of eateries and several nice shopping streets. The beach at the campground is nice. Biking, biking and kayaking are all right there. There is a grocery store about 4 miles away on Rte 70.

Overall Rating:

We were visiting friends who had reservations at this CG. We're self contained and don't use the facilities except for an occasional shower. We visited on a weeknight in October.

This a very nice campground. Sites are spacious, level and well maintained. Electric sites are tucked into the woods. Most primitive sites have waterfront views. There's no wifi. There was adequate ATT and Verizon coverage. Registration is self serve. The push button showers were clean with hot water. We camped at Flanners Beach Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a very nice, small campground located in the Neuse River Recreation Area and known as Flanners Beach Campground (highway signs use this name). The park is very clean, has on-site hosts, and good size lots for big rigs. Site 3 was long enough for our 40' big rig and tow with plenty of space all around. Sites are a mix of sand and gravel and level enough that we didn't need to jack the rig. Picnic table and fire pit at each site. Rate reflects electric only. We didn't use the restrooms. Park is set to close for the season on Nov. 30. We camped at Flanners Beach Campground in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

Locally, this is known as Flanners Beach Campground in the Neuse River Recreation Area. We stayed here for four night in the middle of July with another family. They had a driving RV and we were in our pop-up.

The campground is small, 40 sites, but has quite a lot to offer. The sites are spacious and mostly private. They are clean and most are wooded. The small rest room on the north side is older and while it needs some attention, it is clean. The large restroom is clean, well maintained, and accessible. Water spigots are located throughout the loop. There is a dump station available for campers. The south end bathhouse is much nicer than the north end.

The park is very nice. There are hiking and biking trails surrounding the park. A picnic area adjacent to the campground. There is also a beach with swimming/fishing access on the Neuse River. Be warned, the river is very shallow at the beach. We needed to walk out over 1/4 mile to get to water waist deep.

The campground is located off Hwy 70 between New Bern and Havelock. There are many attractions and activities within a 45 minute drive, we enjoyed seeing New Bern, Fort Macon, the NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores, some time at the beach, and Beaufort.

Overall, a nice campground for a reasonable rate. We camped at Flanners Beach Campground in a Tent Trailer.

No hookups. Very easy to get in and out in our 38' RV with tow. Sites are widely spaced with trees and shrubs between making it very private. The campground was very clean and in a beautiful natural setting. We camped at Flanners Beach Campground in a Motorhome.

This was our first time at this park and it is a very well kept park. The rest rooms and shower rooms are very clean, the lawns are mowed and the whole area is just a must do see. The nature walk I thought was the best I have seen in a long time. The bird watching is fantastic. We camped at Flanners Beach Campground in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: November, 2013 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

I concur with previous reviewer in all aspects. The campground was quiet and on a small cliff above the sound. We visited in November when there were 5 different sites occupied by bear hunters with their hounds. The hunters and dogs presented no problems. It was kind of nice to hear the hounds baying happily at 4:30 in the morning as they rose to go out for the day. The bathhouse was clean but unheated. The water in the shower is on a timer but the water is nice and hot. Still, showering is a bracing experience in November. The government doesn't have money to keep up the trails and the infrastructure. Our fist site didn't have any juice going to the electric panel. The shower faucet is on a timer to conserve water, but the faucet drips constantly. The host was friendly and our stay was happy. November is good time to avoid coastal bugs. We camped at Flanners Beach Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Electric sites $17 and non electric $12, but with the Senior pass its half price. These sites are in one big loop with some sites on the river (non electric). There are a number of sites with electricity, but none near the river. Most sites offer some privacy among the trees and most are quite large. There are two restrooms with hot showers one larger than the other. Each site has a grill, lamp post and picnic table. The main rest room and the entrance of the park are quite attractive with palm trees and flowers laid out in a pleasing arrangement. A one mile bike trail goes around the campground that is paved. A stairway leads to a sand beach, but after being on the outer banks there is no comparison. In the morning the campground was so peaceful especially with all the birds chirping away. There are two host sites if anyone had any problems or questions to be answered. We camped at Flanners Beach Campground in a Motorhome.

Most sites offer some privacy among the trees and most are quite large. There is a restroom that was built in the last ten years with hot showers and another one that needs some work. We had problems finding water near out site but there was plenty available near the non-electric sites. Each site has a grill, lamp post and picnic table. The main rest room and the entrance of the park are quite attractive with palm trees and flowers laid out in a pleasing arrangement. A one mile bike trail goes around the campground but that also needs some work on it – we did not even take it and we ride our bikes everywhere! A stairway leads to a sand beach but after being on the outer banks there is no comparison. We have stayed in this forest before but at the other National Forest site Cedar Point and found we liked that campground so much better than this one. It is all right for one night and everyone we met was very nice! In the morning the campground was so peaceful especially with all the birds chirping away. There are two host sites if anyone had any problems or questions to be answered. We camped at Flanners Beach Campground in a Motorhome.
