Rate is for deluxe patio site with KOA Kard discount. We love this camp ground and the city. We were escorted to our site which was under one of the few large oak trees on the grounds. I asked our escort about satellite reception and was told that he had seen many motor homes with the dish up, so he assumed that it was OK. I wish I had asked for a different site. Not only did we lose satellite every time the wind blew, we were bombarded with acorns as well. The cable is OK and free, but I've been spoiled with DVR service. I found out that our tripod wiring didn't work, so I also got a new project from the trip as well. We camped at New Bern KOA in a Motorhome.Undo

First, this is a typical, older KOA with close together sites. They have to look for a big rig site for you. The campground is a good destination park if you have children; there is plenty to do at this KOA. The interior roads are packed gravel and dusty. We stayed here in a large rig and would stay here again if passing through the area. We camped at New Bern KOA in a Fifth Wheel.Undo

Stayed just for 1 night on the road. Nice location on the river and great that it is relatively close to downtown, but--as I think is the problem with most KOAs--the sites are too darn close together! You can almost listen to the conversation of the couple in the next site. Patio sites have the same space, just a paved "median" instead of grass, and patio furniture instead of a wooden picnic table. We had a pull-through, not paved but level. The campground looked nice enough, little lake in the center with a fountain. Cabins arranged on the outside, and a nice walk with fishing dock on the river. They appeared to rent kayaks and paddle boats. Didn't use the restrooms but the rest of the park appeared neat so I'm sure it would have been OK. Would stay again when passing through. Camped in a 35 foot rig. Site 18 is easy access pull-through, level, sand with modest grass patch. There is no shade. Staff is very friendly. Did not use, or look at, pool or laundry, and bath houses. Book exchange, DVD library, inside board games, miniature golf, playground, dock at Neuse River, lawn swings. Destination campground for young families. Convenient to New Bern. Quiet at night. We camped at New Bern KOA in a Fifth Wheel.Undo

People that work at the campground are all very nice and helpful. Interior roads are dirt/gravel but in good condition. The sites are level, gravel with grass between sites. There are several different "grades" of campsites. Some sites are bigger and nicer than others. All of the sites are very close together, making eating and sitting outside not great. They are able to manage big rigs. Confirm the size of the site before going. We did not spend much time at the campground so we did not care that ours was small. Although we do not camp with kids, this seems like it would be a nice campground for children. Good satellite reception; also very good Verizon cell phone signal. Staff was very friendly and helpful in getting parked. The park is typical of an older KOA in layout. The only real issue was with the roads needing some gravel and general grounds care. It was easy to see that in rain the park would be a little sloppy. The park was easy to access and if we pass through New Bern again, I'd certainly consider this park again. The bathhouse was clean, but dated and could use a little updating. We camped at New Bern KOA in a Fifth Wheel.Undo

We stayed here for two days and really enjoyed our stay. The staff was very helpful and easy to work with. Our site was located next to the pond and it was on the small side, but we had full hookups including cable TV. The WiFi was spotty, but it worked. It was raining the entire time we stayed, but the campground looked well maintained. There was an occasional train, but it was not disruptive. Would I recommend this park? Yes. Would we come back? This is a really nice campground. Pool and playground for kids, a nice fishing pier on the Neuse River. Restrooms and showers were very well kept. There was light rain much of the time we were there, but the sandy soil drained well. It's pricier than we are accustomed to paying, but very nice facilities and helpful, pleasant staff. This is the third time we have stayed here over the past five years and they just keep improving things. We stayed in a premium site and it had a nice patio, a fireplace, a table with umbrella and a firepit. The sites are all good length and looked to be very level. They have a nice pool and lots of things to do, and the staff is friendly and helpful. About the only negative is that their interior roads could use some work but overall this is a very nice place to stay. We camped at New Bern KOA in a Motorhome.Undo

This KOA has a great camp store/office and the personnel are extremely nice. They give you an escort to your site and help situate you on the site. Our site had a great patio with umbrella, wrought iron table/chairs and a chimney type fire pit. We had a wonderful view of the Neuse River. An extra added amenity of this campground is a dock/boat launch and rental of kayaks. Several sites seem to be occupied by "long term" campers which is getting to be the norm nowadays rather than the exception. Space between sites was adequate. All the sites I saw were very level. Road noise is almost non-existent. Be forewarned, however, there is a train trestle crossing the river within site of the campground and trains run late at night and early morning, as in around 4 o'clock. That was the biggest drawback to this campground. We camped at New Bern KOA in a Motorhome.Undo

This is our 4th time staying at KOA New Bern. We have family in New Bern so we use KOA as a base of operation. We have never found it dirty or have been afraid to stay here. Hosts do a great job. They have a good staff also. Bathhouse by the cabins is always clean and I take showers there when I need more than a 6 gallon hot shower. The dock area is nice to walk to and sit down on the pier under a covered area while watching the Neuse River flow by. Dogs are welcome and they have nice area to take them off the leash. Roads could use some gravel to level them out. BUT that would be my only complaint. Nice new double lane highway US17 going by the campground with nice new entrance. It's easier to get in and out now than a year ago. We will be going back to KOA New Bern. We camped at New Bern KOA in a Fifth Wheel.Undo
Date of Stay: November, 2011 - $65.00
Another predictably good entry into the KOA list of camps. This one is on a river and has a small dock which is nice. The dog runs are also very nice. The camp even offers a dog washing station. The only downfall in my opinion, is the location. The camp is not in the nicest part of New Bern. I didn't fell unsafe, but you are not far from some dicey retail shops.
