We spent six days here, and selected this campground due to the close proximity to the ocean. We were very pleased. This is not a luxury campground, nor does it advertise itself as one. The "9" rating is comparing this campground to how it is advertised. It you are expecting a resort, this isn't for you. If you want friendly folks, relaxing atmosphere, with the Atlantic Ocean is just a few hundred yards from your camper...this is for you. The owners are very friendly, as are the fellow campers. We are new at the camping lifestyle, so I was surprised to see someone "camping" in his car, but to each his own, I guess. There are quite a few "seasonal" sites here, which I found to be a bonus...since these folks were very knowledgable about the area. The camp store provided us with a few staples that we ran out of, which was very nice, at reasonable prices. Parking is tight, but doable. The staff will help park the trailers if spaces are too tight, which I did not realize until after we had parked. Topsail Island is a great place. Not over populated like so many others. And, it's dog friendly all hours, 365 days of the year. We camped at Surf City Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Still a very nice park with very friendly owners. Sites are small but can accommodate larger RVs. The best things about this park are the friendly people, owners, and the great beach, just over the dunes. This is our second time at this park and will be back again. This was a very nice and small park. The campers are packed on one another but the ocean access makes it worth while. Some longer camper rigs hang out into the CG road but do not pose any problems. The owners are as nice as they come. When we had to cut our stay short they offered a refund of the unused time. I would not accept the entire amount as it was not their fault we had to leave. The park is composed of half seasonal people and half travelers. There is not much here for children as the playground is a backyard swing set that looks like it does not get used much. There was a pool table and a small campground store with basic items. If you looking for 100% beach and not a lot of people this is the place to go because the beach is uncrowded and there is not much going on in the surrounding area. We camped at Surf City Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

If you're looking for a campground on the beach then this is the place for you. We had a spot very close to the dunes with direct ocean access. We could hear the waves crashing while sitting inside our camper. If you're looking for a roomy campground with lots of amenities then you should look elsewhere. This isn't the typical campground that we look for because the sites are very close together and people are on top of each other, but the beach access make it worthwhile. The couple that runs the place is very nice and helpful. We camped at Surf City Family Campground in a Motorhome.

Exactly what we wanted when we were looking for a family oriented campground. We also do not like the commercial aspect at the beach, so this fit us perfect. Our stay was during the week and we were just about the only people camping. It was wonderful. Direct access to the beach and we were able to camp close enough that we could hear the waves crashing at night. The restrooms are clean and there is a swingset and gameroom for the kids. We camped at Surf City Family Campground in a Motorhome.

While this campground is by no means fancy, it is a family friendly, fun place to enjoy the beach. You are no more than 100 yards from the beach with access at all times for swimming, surf fishing, or beachcombing. The facility is old but the owners go out of their way to make you feel welcome. If you are into fancy parks with lots of amenities, this place ain't for you, but if you like a nice, quiet place to camp on the beach, you will find it here!
