Date of Stay: December, 2016 - $66.00
Overall Rating:

I will start by saying in the off season this is the only option on Ocracoke or we would not have stayed. I checked the website and also called ahead to check rates and availability, and was quoted a price of 40 something dollars for water and electric. When we arrived we stopped by the office and were advised to pick any site, then to come back to register. We picked one of the few sites that was not flooded (granted there had been a lot of rain) and that did not have trash/debris littering the site. My husband went back to register and was charged $66 for one night. The next morning I went to the office to register for another night - remember there are no other campgrounds open in the off season. I inquired about the rate and was advised we were on a 50 amp site so the rate was $66. I explained that our motorhome is only 30 amp and that we had been told to select any site. I asked if an adjustment could be made and the answer was an adamant NO. You are on 50 amp site so the rate is $66. We were the only campers there so it was not as if we were occupying a high revenue site that could be sold to someone else, but they would not adjust the rate. In addition to that blatant disregard for customer satisfaction, the actual campground was worse than dismal. The bathrooms were unmarked - they are actually located on the back side of the gas station/store. The approach to the bathrooms was treacherous with what appeared to be construction debris, miscellaneous junk, and trash. They were so unappealing that we did not venture inside. Our site did not have a picnic table or grill. Some sites had tables but they were in poor shape. We used a table on the vacant site next to ours when we wanted to sit out. Trash disposal was a do it yourself affair. The "dumpster" was a utility trailer with open barrels with trash scattered about. Considering the off season it was apparent the trash had not been hauled away for quite some time. It is shameful. We camped at Beachcomber Campground in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $73.00
Overall Rating:

This place is a dump, a real pit! $73 a night for power, water, & sewer. No amenities what so ever. The ONLY thing this campground has going for it is location relative to the Village of Ocracoke.

The campground only accepts reservations made on-line. In fact, the only way to communicate with them is via email. They claim they do this to cut costs. That policy can cause hardship if you do not have access to email. However, the campground is managed out of the adjacent market. We camped at Beachcomber Campground in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $71.00
Overall Rating:

The bathhouse is horrible. Out of 3 showers 2 worked, but there was no drain trap, just a big open hole. No privacy at all, they could easily put up a shower curtain going into the shower area but as it is, you step out and anyone coming to use the bathroom can see you. Speaking of, the doors on the toilet stalls don't go down low enough, they stop just at toilet seat level, very odd. Only 2 out of 3 of those worked. Repairs are definitely needed. The store is very expensive for what they offer, then again the sites are very expensive considering the condition the place is in and the people who work there are rude and act irritated that you came into the store. I would not recommend this place. With their high rates, it's a much better deal to stay in a hotel with a microwave or grill. We camped at Beachcomber Campground in a Tent Trailer.

We decided not to stay here because the price we were quoted was a bit outrageous for the sites and they didn't have sewer hookups. The showers looked like outhouses and we are not normally picky people. We camped at Beachcomber Campground in a Motorhome.

When we looked the park over, we opted not to stay here. The bathrooms were attached to the back of a gas station and were little more than an "outhouse". One of the two toilets in the men's room didn't even have a seat. A couple of wooden outdoor showers looked more useable than the indoor shower.

This is the backyard of a gas station that has a couple of nightly spaces. It's right downtown, so if you're looking for that convenience it's the best part of this campground. I'm told by locals that the folks who manage this park are very nice. They need to put some time and money into making this into a real RV park. We camped at Beachcomber Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Having never been to Ocracoke Island, we believed this was the only place to park an RV. It's not.

Date of Stay: April, 2014 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Set away from the highway behind the service station/market it was quiet. Sites are short but wide, level and mostly on grass. Some had outdoor showers or grills, most had picnic tables. However, for $50/night in mid-April, they should have had adequate voltage. We had voltage drops low enough to cause the progressive to interrupt the power. This was with only 8 other sites occupied. Restrooms were rustic but very clean. On the women' slide, one of three toilets and one of three showers was out-of-order. We didn't use the Wi-Fi but both major cellular carriers had strong signals. Golf cart rental next door and the market were convenient. The staff were pleasant. They very kindly extended my checkout time. We camped at Beachcomber Campground in a Motorhome.

Sites with water and electricity make for much nicer camping during hot weather. Dump station on site. Comfortable size sites, quiet even with live music next door since the music ended at 10 pm. Walking distance to everywhere in the village. Nice fence with places to put up a line for wet towels, etc. Site was not pull through, but large enough to back in easily. Open year around. We camped at Beachcomber Campground in a Travel Trailer.

A small basic campground in back of the gas station on Ocracoke Island. New manager is trying to clean up the campground. He is trying to control the free roaming dogs and feral cats in the area. A few 50 amp sites and most sites are for 35 foot or less. We get the E/W site and use the dump station a few times during our 2 week stay. In October, lots of surf fisherman were there - us included. We had no problems and it was very quiet. The bugs were not too bad until the last night but I hadn't sprayed around our area for a few days. We plan to stay here again next year. We camped at Beachcomber Campground in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: October, 2009 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

I made our reservations in August for an October stay. When we arrived they did not have our reservation. We were told we could dry camp, next to the road and have a hook up site the following night. It had rained and the campground was swamped. We have a 38 foot motor home and doubt we would have fit anyway. The sites are crammed into a small area behind the only gas station on the island. There are not good interior roads. They do offer a dump station. Even though they are on "island time", I don't think this is very professional. We camped at Beachcomber Campground in a Motorhome.
