Jul 2018 - $41.00
We were looking for a convenient over night stop to see friends in the area. Site #R34 worked out great. Level asphalt, pull-through site with open access for DirecTV. 50 amp service. The band/DJ? was setting up when we returned after dinner but we were parked behind the game room area and didn't hear them which worked out well. We'd stay here again in our 40' motor home. - rwarner22
Jun 2017 - $38.00
We come here for short-term stays when in the area to visit family. They recently raised their rates. They have a 14-day limit for short-term stays, then you have to leave for a few days before returning for another 14 days. Holidays esp Halloween are always packed. We stay in a FHU 50 amp pull-thru on the lot near the pool which is adjacent to the highway. The office staff are helpful and accommodating once they get to know you better. It's an older park, they keep the sites minimally maintained, wifi is free but weak in spots, water pressure is great. Dog breed restrictions apply - no chows, pits, Dobermans, Rottweilers or mixed breeds with any of those in them. There are A LOT of permanent and seasonal residents here. A large part of the park is a trailer park with a small section for travelers. Great for overnight or short stays. - Flippitti
Mar 2017 - $33.00
Most of the park (at least 90%) is extended stay or permanent residents. The weekend or short-term visitors are literally put in a parking lot right next to the main, busy road. The putt-putt and game room were closed. The only view we had was of two billboards and a very busy street. Very disappointed. - Amy N
Jun 2016 - $40.00
Very disappointed .loose boards on piers. Our granddaughter tripped on loose board.Clubhouse needs painting.Roads need more paving.Owners don't take interest in improving beauty of campground.Sites aren't level. All lights not working at all campsites. - Kenjoy
Apr 2016 - $40.00
We are in a 40' motorhome towing a vehicle. We stayed here for a few nights. The campground is 99% permanent residents (aka trailer park) with less than a dozen sites reserved for transients, off the main road in the middle of the campground. They're all back-ins, most are under trees. We had an FHU site near the lake. Some of the sites are terraced because everything slopes down to the boat ramp at the lake. But despite being terraced, our site wasn't level. Sites are gravel, roads are mostly paved. The hookups are way in the back but the sites are also long and wide so you have the room to maneuver your rig to reach the pedestal. Sites have a fire ring and a picnic table.
Wifi was nonexistent so we used our own. When you check in, you're charged $10 for an electronic key card to enter the park. You get it back in cash when you return the card at check out. That means that any guests who want to visit will have to go to the office and pay a fee just to see you. There's no off leash dog park, restrooms smelled moldy (I could smell it from the outside) and there wasn't a flat surface in the park.
The main reason we likely won't come back is because of the buzzing power lines that run right over the middle of the park. They're loud enough to be disturbing, and sound as if you have live electricity crackling above you all the time. Well you do but I don't want to constantly hear it. I don't understand how anyone can live under that. - Flippitti
Jul 2014 - $35.00
This is a clean well maintained campground with a pool, mintature golf, and a store. Nice size lots with some lots have a great view of the lake. Would recommend this campground to other campers. Very friendly staff and campers. - Jaretaz
Nov 2018 - $84.00
This is our 4th stay at Lake Norman Motorcoach Resort. We like it because it is clean, well-maintained and staff is friendly. We know we can expect level, concrete pads (which, this time, were even more important, as it rained a lot!). Hookups are convenient. Most sites are tiered on a hillside, and somewhat close together. (You will need to disconnect if towing) We stay here when visiting family who live in the area. We were surprised, this trip, at the number of loud pickup trucks entering and exiting at all hours, sometimes at a faster rate of speed than is safe. The entry gate (has a pass code) was left open during the day, which may encourage faster travel, but it is good there don't seem to be small children staying here. New managers this time - seem very nice. - StateofMaineStateofMind
Oct 2018 - $75.00
We have stayed at hundreds of RV parks. Lake Norman Motorcoach Resort is amongst the best we have ever used. In a beautiful location. Very well maintained. The sites are level concrete pads and well maintained lawns. The hookups are all just about perfect. It is a little tight getting to your site, but a resort employee will be there to help you maneuver and get your RV located. Every employee and the owner seemed anxious to do whatever is needed to make your stay enjoyable. - Tina and Pete Collins
Sep 2017 - $79.00
A resort campground geared to Adults. Tiki Bar on site. Free use of paddle boards and kayaks. Paved roads so little dust. Good cable. WiFi not as good as I thought it might be. - AvalonDF41
Apr 2011 - $20.00
This park was close to home for us in case things just sucked. They didn't. Really liked the park, and would stay again. You can hike trails, bike ride, and swim in the lake. The bathhouse was your average state park type bath house. Clean for the most part, but not 5 star or anything. Each site has picnic table, grill, and lantern pole. Down side is that it has no electricity, so we couldn't run a/c. On a really hot day this probably would suck. However when we stayed here the weather was very comfortable. The sites are very well shaded, so this helped keep things cooler. We were somewhat limited by not having electricity, but as dry camping goes this wasn't a terrible experience. They do allow generators but noise restrictions require they be turned off after 10pm. We camped next door to the camp host and they were very friendly and helpful. - Soph
Nov 2010 - $20.00
Camped here with a large group of geocachers, some that stayed in the family area and others that stayed in the Group tent camping area. The family camping area has 33 sites, some with a view of the lake. Each site in this area has a paved parking area and large tent pad. My pop up fit well on the paved driveway but it was somewhat unlevel. Travel trailers larger than about 24 feet may be challenged for room. The one bath house in this area was clean and the hot water was adequate. The park was quite attractive and large. I would have given a slightly higher rating but was somewhat aggravated that the family camping area and group camping areas are separated by gates and they lock these at 6 PM. We had friends in the group site but could not visit with them after 6 pm. - jrackley
Sep 2018 - $17.00
First of all, the gravel road leading to the campground is no big deal. After reading other reviews I was expecting far worse. Its just a somewhat steep wide gravel road. There are no low hanging branches and we had no problem entering the camp in a 42 coach towing a car. The key is to just drive slow. The owners are very nice, the campground is well kept and all the sites are level gravel, most are pull thru sites. Utilities were good, water pressure was adequate. Sites are spaced nicely and very long. I had room to park my car in front or in back of my coach. They have some permanent sites, but all are nicely kept. It is a small campground so call ahead for reservations; it is full most nights. You need a gate code to open the electric gate. WiFi worked but was slow, Verizon signal was excellent. It's a short easy drive from I-40 exit 119. I stayed a month so my nightly rate was lower. - larhode
Jul 2018 - $35.00
We were traveling on I-40 and needed a one night stay. The campground was located just a short distance off exit 119a so was convenient. With that said the hill is steep to get there but was well worth it. The campground was extremely nice and felt like an oasis of green after a long day on the road. It was clean, very well kept up and everyone was friendly. There was no cable but that was fine with us. We would highly recommend this campground. - Bax
Sep 2017 - $30.00
This campground isn't for the faint hearted. You follow a road downhill until you come to a gate. There you telephone the office. If there is no vacancy, you still have to enter to be able to turn around. The steep and gravely road is navigable, but might put many people off. That being said, this really is a wonderful campground. We parked in what was considered the overflow, so all I did was back my motorhome up about 30 feet and hook up. The owner was super friendly and the price was spot on (cash only). Plenty of space to walk the dogs. We were close to the office, so WiFi was good. Would return and would recommend to those unafraid of a rather dubious entrance. It's really worth it. - villager04
Sep 2016 - $40.00
This is more of a park for long term campers. Only 10 back in sites for people traveling. Super low water pressure. The first night we stayed, music was blasting till way past midnight. No security to stop it but it was a DJ. Very hard to make turn in this park and back into the site. It does sit on a beautiful lake. We would never go back to this park again. We were to stay 3 days but left out after 2 days. - Steve Solomon
Nov 2015 - $16.00
This is a jewel of a RV park for an extended stay or a few nights. Does not have a lot of amenities, but is a clean, safe, easy access, place to RV when in the Charlotte area. Very convenient to major roads. Just a few minutes to anything. Owners are wonderful people who care about providing a good park. Family run and operated. The price is the best in the area and includes electricity on extended stays. Charlotte International Airport is nearby and park is near landing path, but seeing the planes come in is neat. - Cme4RV
Mar 2015 - $30.00
The price here is very low, which might be a plus. The bathroom, which is basically inaccessible to most of the RV spots, is also the worst we've seen on our entire trip around the country. It looked like a bombed-out tool shed and wasn't stocked with any TP, soap, etc.
As reported in several other reviews, the husband is a very difficult and unhappy person. Unfortunately, his wife runs everything and is often gone, so you very likely will have to deal with him. Everything we communicated with the office was lost, confused, or not passed on to the appropriate person.
Others report an OK, stay, and I can see that happening if you can avoid dealing with the office and don't mind using your own RV's bathroom/shower. If so, might be worth a look. Otherwise, no way. We certainly won't be back. - 5thWheelAroundTheCountry
May 2014 - $25.00
They take cash only, hmmm that was very interesting. Also, good luck trying to level. I have a 40 ft motorhome and I got nowhere near level after 30 minutes of trying. Watch out for the speed bumps on the east side of the property. They are impossible to hit straight so everything in your refrigerator and cabinets will be thrown around big time. No use in returning to this one. - Johnnyboy21
Nov 2018 - $56.00
Stayed here on way south. Not a KOA member so price was VERY high, even though listed as KOA Journey. Campground easy on-off to I-77, small but very nice. Would be nice place to visit again but would not, due to high cost, esp. since we had no water due to temperatures. - Mainiac
Nov 2018 - $35.00
We've stayed here 3 or 4 times over the last few years. It is very convenient to I-77. The staff was friendly and efficient. I used some KOA points to get the price down. I've never been on a level site here. There appears to be some but I'm always given one requiring me to do some leveling. We never have been bothered by road noise even though the Interstate is close. This park is not a destination but it is convenient for us to visit relatives living on Lake Norman. - Shady Spring
Jul 2018 - $40.00
The staff are very nice and friendly and helpful. The park itself has a number of full timers. The roads are asphalt and the sites are gravel and grass. There are few full hook ups. I checked the bathrooms and showers and they were very clean. The laundry was clean. When driving in I saw the pool looked dirty. The pull through site we were escorted to was level, but water and electric only. We were then shown two back in sites that had cable, but again no sewer and the sites were very unlevel. We chose to leave and the management gave us a full refund and were very nice about it. It seems KOA has just not put the resources into the park that the staff need to manage it well. - Alabama Jim
Oct 2017 - $40.00
I required a refund and left after had to have law enforcement deal with owner who cursed my 74 year old mother and threatened her because she asked about wi fi (which they don't offer). Rate is not as advertised, and park is trashy; I've seen more gravel on a dirt track. All back in sites if you can find your place. They gave me directions 4 times and I drove for three hours to go 1 mile from where I started. Been camping and RVing for 50 years and worst place I have ever seen and worst people (owner) I ever dealt with. Stay away. - Jvf
Sep 2017 - $40.00
We stayed here for one night in 40' motor home. Person at the desk had no people skills at all. No one helps you find your spot or helps you back in (all lots are back in ) and you need help as spots are small. At $40.00 a night this place is terrible. It is not worth $15.00 a night. - RV Frank
Nov 2016 - $40.00
Sites are small-no fire rings-website says $25/night,but when you get there the sign says 25/night mon-thur-its 40 on weekends-the only thing going for them is the drive in theater. - Reteze
Apr 2018 - $15.00
We had our brand new 5th Wheel delivered to this park and set up while we waited for our truck to be outfitted for us to hauls our 5th Wheel. The staff at this park began getting phone calls from me planning and coordinating this process a month before arrival and they treated me like a Queen. Every single one of them were knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and reliable. From planning to execution everything went off without a hitch. The park is clean and well maintained. It is a small campground at the City Reservoir. We will always stay here when we return to visit friends in the area. - SuzieMcCann
