The fairgrounds have about 100 sites, all back-in with full hook-ups. The campground seems to have a mild crest in the middle that gradually slopes on either side. We used site 69 (in our 42 ft coach) which seemed to drain well when it rained. The only negative I can find is that the crushed gravel lanes can create a little bit of dust from cars, etc. in dry weather. The best part about the campground is the closeness & convenience to downtown Raleigh & Cary. We camped at North Carolina State Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Our "go to" place in Raleigh - spacious sites, great service. There are no amenities, such as bathhouse, picnic tables, or fire rings, but the free WiFi works pretty well. $30 for a FHU seems fair. We camped at North Carolina State Fairgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

We selected the NC State Fairgrounds campground because it is less than 20 minutes to the Raleigh-Durham airport. This campground is really set up for people that take RVs to shows, farmer's markets, equestrian events and other types of activities surrounding the North Carolina State Fairgrounds. The grounds we saw were nicely landscaped, but they had no amenities that we saw. Calling them just as we got there permitted the security guard to meet us and guide us through the myraid roads in the fairgrounds. They have multiple RV parking locations, each set up for different purposes. We were just passing through, staying one night, so we ended up quite a ways from any of the venues, which was certainly okay with us. Once we knew where we were, getting in and out of the fairgrounds was easy. The site was large and level with gravel, no shade, and we had full hookups but that was about the limit to the amenities. (If there was free Wi-Fi, we were unaware of it so didn't try it. Verizon was excellent.) Once you've been, finding it is very easy, but the first time required having the guard show you a site. For a one-night stopover, this is a very good place to stay. We camped at North Carolina State Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Not too far away is an excellent pizza place called Pieology, and on the way back we saw and stopped at a Ben & Jerry's. Being in suburban Raleigh, there are many stores and entertainment fairly close-by.

Nice back in sites. Very little shade. Quiet, clean. No tables or fire pits. Pick your own site and the ranger will be by to settle up and give you the rules. Plenty of room between sites. Easy to get into once you find the entrance. We camped at North Carolina State Fairgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Campsite is for self contained rvs only w 101 full hookups. Clean and level parking on gravel w nice grass on both sides. Campsite is part of State Fairgrounds and close to all activities in Raleigh area. We are here now for Holiday and we will come back anytime we want to be nearby.

That said, campsite is hard to find and directions off website are not specific. I will be so now. Area is part of Horse Shows for NC Fairgrounds. A real jewel at the price for full 30/50 amp sites IF you can find it . We camped at North Carolina State Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Anything to do with NC State Univ that is adjacent to NC Fairgrounds. NCS Football Stadium is 1000 yds from Campground. Excellent shopping is off any exit of I 44o Beltway around city of Raleigh.

Campground is very hard to find in the dark of night, so arrive in daytime. From I 40 W get off exit #289/ Wade Ave and come to exit Edwards Mill Rd. Exit there South 2 miles to Trinity Ave. Left on Trinity Ave up the hill 2 miles to right turn on Youth Center Drive to Gate H7 into Campground entrance .

We are here in a 42' MotorCoach w 4 slideouts. Plenty of room and well worth the effort to find it. Enjoy !!!

This is a great RV Park to use as a "home base" while visiting Raleigh, mainly due to its location, price, and full hookups. However, there's nothing particularly interesting about the park itself: it's row after row of RV sites in a fenced-in grassy field. The sites are a bit close together, but with enough space that it's not claustrophobic. They don't take reservations, but you can call ahead to check availability. Once you arrive, you pick a site and call the ranger who will come by and collect payment via cash or check. The free WiFi didn't work for us, but the park was quite crowded while we were there due to a college football game at the stadium across the street. Verizon and AT&T worked well. The park is dog friendly. There are no picnic tables or fire rings, and while trash bins are located throughout the park, there is no recycling. We would stay here again if visiting Raleigh. We camped at North Carolina State Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Difficult to find, on Youth Center Drive. Sign says " Horse events" below large sign is a small sign stating "Campground." Look for gate H7. Newer RV campground, young trees, little shade, no amenities , except hook ups. One way system, garbage barrels at each site. Great for big rigs, and very close to events center, State Fair. Great flea market at fair ground, huge, but take an umbrella for shade. The camp ground is big, clean, open and okay, no showers pool or anything. Just a place to rest your head at night. Security attendant will drive up to check you in once you have chosen a spot. It's first come first served. No camping during State Fair weeks. We camped at North Carolina State Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $30.00

This campground is typical for a fairgrounds: no amenities beyond the basics: water, sewer, electric. Roads and sites were gravel, and a bit dusty (although a truck watered down the dust while we were there). Currently very few shady spots, but the trees are young and will provide more shade in the future. Security was good and the location was handy to Raleigh streets and highways. Very handy for getting to downtown locations or to NC State University. Wifi was acceptable, but was fairly weak in our site that was some distance from the antennas--the campground could use more antennas to provide better coverage. A price increase from $25 to $30 went into effect beginning in August. Overall, we would not hesitate to stay here again when we need to do business in Raleigh; the convenience to downtown, and to biking trails would be hard to beat in any other location. We camped at North Carolina State Fairgrounds in a Travel Trailer.

We have a home in nearby Cary, and frequently use the fairgrounds as staging and shakedown before long trips. This July we camped 12 days as we transitioned to full-time RVers. This is a great place, with spacious sites. There are no amenities or activities, but in terms of value I'd give it a 10. There's no shade, which means that sites are satellite-friendly, and no bath house, although we understand plans for one are in the works. NC Fair police frequently patrol the area, which convey a feeling of safety. We understand the campground fee will increase 1 Aug. There's no doubt we will stay here again. We camped at North Carolina State Fairgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

The park was very comfortable, and quiet. We stayed for 5 days. The leash policy needed to be enforced, and so did the clean up policy. We were here during a horse show. The first couple days there were only a few campers but the last 3 days the campgrounds were almost full. Many dogs running without a leash and not all owners picked up after their pets. The electric was out for a day during our stay. We will stay here again when visiting family. We camped at North Carolina State Fairgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Fantastic. I've paid much more at other CG's and got a lot less. Agree with the other posts. The upper area is very nice and well landscaped. There are a zillion sites spread throughout the fairgrounds but most stay in this area, above the horse park. Excellent wifi. Very quiet park. They water sprayed the roads several times a day so dust was not a problem. Security officers are very friendly and helpful. One told me that direction signs are finally being made and will be installed soon. He also said there will be a check-in building constructed. We camped at North Carolina State Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

This was our third time staying here and it is still the best RV park value in the Raleigh area. All sites are back-in and could accommodate our 40MH with enough room to park our toad in front. The roads are wide and backing in is no problem. Roads and sites are gravel and the sites are pretty level. The utilities work well once you understand how to turn the water on. Security is provided by the fairgrounds police. There is no tax so $25/night is all you pay. Out of state checks are accepted (as is cash.) Tips for other Campers:

Always check the fairgrounds calendar to see if there are any major events scheduled when you want to use a site. Normally there are plenty of unused sites except during state fair and on NC State football weekends.

Very good experience. Wish they would reserve the space once you got there and paid so we would be assured of the same spot we chose and paid for when we had to leave twice for repairs. We shall see if the plastic bag over the power pole continues to hold our site. Many of the sites are level but many are not for our 45' motorhome. Large sites with grassy area in-between. A bit dusty from crushed cement entrance roads but once inside the loop it's less. Looks like a few people have been there a while as the grass under their trailers was high but the grounds are neat and well kept. Security is ongoing and friendly. The train noise is occasional but not bothersome even though I'm a very light sleeper. They have a huge flea market on the weekends and lots of events going through out the year. Would stay here again. We camped at North Carolina State Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Easy access, though hard to find, if you haven't been here before. Virtually, no direction signs. No pull through sites, but plenty of room to unhook a car or trailer. If you need a bath house or washer/dryer, you wont find them here. This is a place to park with reasonable elbow room and conveniently placed hook ups.

For the money, a bargain. Bring cash or checks. Credit cards not accepted. We camped at North Carolina State Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.
