This is an easy on and off place to stay. We were here two weeks and found it as others stated. The sites varied from level to not so much. Ours was level and plenty long enough for a 37' fifth wheel. Security came around before we finished setting up to collect the fee. Each site has 20/30/50 amp hook ups. The water pressure was low even though the park was not full during the week. Weekends it was mostly booked because of NC State games and horse shows. Since there are no reservations, I will return on a weekday. Verizon signal was strong and satellite good with no trees to block it. Wi-fi worked for a short time in the mornings, then was mostly unavailable. It was generally quiet, and the one pep rally for the game stopped at 11:00. Other nights there was no noise. Do not attempt to get in when the game lets out. Officers block the roads for traffic to exit, and you may wait an extended period. It was our first time here, and we will return when visiting our daughter. The price was fair for full hookups, and we felt safe. We camped at North Carolina State Fairgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a very nice place to stay. Although not completely scenic (not on a lake or mountains, etc), the grounds are very well kept and the lot sizes are huge and very easy to back into. Each comes with its own trash can which is emptied daily and a light post. No tables or fire pits, but you can always set up your own chairs and portable grill outside, which is just fine for our lifestyle. There are also no other amenities such as bathrooms, showers or dump station. This is also not the type of place that has long term or permanent residents. Most of the other RVs were the high end sort, making our high end 5'er look cheap and insignificant! The wifi signal we had was the best so far! It was mostly empty except for the weekend, when there was a huge football game and a horse show in town (the camping area of the fairgrounds is next to the horse area). I would definitely stay here again. We camped at North Carolina State Fairgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

This is our second time staying here; it is a great, convenient place to stay in a city that is not particularly RV-friendly. The park is rather basic, but is clean and well-run. We feel safe here. This stay was different than our first in that there was a major Wolfpack football game this weekend and the park was completely full Friday night. Despite the fact that we were surrounded by fanatical football fans, things were fairly quiet. The game didn't end until nearly 7pm but we were able to get back to the campground around 9pm without a problem. At $25/night it's a great value; we will definitely return whenever we visit our family here. It's worth noting that there was decent free wifi although we used our Verizon 4G. Satellite signals are easy to get because there aren't any trees! We camped at North Carolina State Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

As mentioned before, this is not a destination campground. It is a fantastic stopping point in Raleigh. Easy on and off the interstate. Would stay here again. We camped at North Carolina State Fairgrounds in a Travel Trailer.

Our site was pretty level with easy access for our 43 ft motorhome. There isn't a bathhouse so you need to be self contained. Wi-Fi worked most of the time. This is not a destination campground however it is in a great location if you're in the Raleigh area. There was a horse show going on the weekend we were here so the campground was almost full. No reservations, cash only, friendly staff. The campground was pretty quiet. The leash rule needs to be enforced. While walking my leashed dogs I had 4 incidences that other dogs ran up to mine. Two of the dogs scared the crap out of me. The poop clean up rule also needs to be enforced. I've never seen so many people not clean up after their dogs. Gross. Be a responsible pet owner so you don't ruin it for everyone else. We will stay here again. We camped at North Carolina State Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Right inside Raleigh, across from PNC arena. Level sites, crushed gravel. Trees still young, no shade, good spacing between sites. Takes cash or checks only. Good Wi-Fi most of the time, sometimes will kick you off. Dog friendly: You're inside the fairgrounds so lots of space to walk dogs. No amenities but close to city, easy to get to, and full hookups for a great price. Would stay here again. We camped at North Carolina State Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Spent 11 days here while visiting friends nearby. Large, easy to access sites, all back-ins but very easy to maneuver. No restrooms or showers, so you must be self-contained. Felt safe, as public safety officers always patrolling. Sites are gravel and some are fairly level, but most are not, so extra blocks are necessary. Dust was the only reason I didn't rate a 9. They did come by once with water truck, but needed to do it daily to effectively keep dust down. We will stay here again for sure! We camped at North Carolina State Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

As others have said, this is no-frills camping but it is clean, relatively level and the utilities work all for a total cost of $25 per night in a major city. I can't think of a better deal than that. The staff we interacted with were polite and pleasant. Yes, there are lights at night, but calling it "lit like a prison" is a bit of an exaggeration. Some sites may be longer than others but we had no problems finding one for our 40' MH. Considering that there are very few RV parks on the west side of Raleigh this is a great find. We camped at North Carolina State Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

The campground is just off Youth Center Drive. Go through gate H7 (Horse Complex), the campground is just beyond the horse complex up on a small hill. It is a bit confusing; you might want to call for exact directions. All of the roads are on packed gravel including the sites. A water truck comes by every couple of days to keep the dust down. Some of the sites are longer and more leveled then others. All of the sites are back-ins and have full hookups. The utilities are usually located in the back, some even further back then others. All sites have 20/30/50 amp electrical service. The voltage was good at about 120. The campground was fairly quiet at night. Some train noise, but they usually run during the day time. There are neither bathrooms nor showers. There is Wi-Fi, but we did not use it. Verizon air card and cell phone worked well here. This is a very good campground considering it is located within a major city. We would definitely come back here if we were in the area. Our rig is 32 feet long. We camped at North Carolina State Fairgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

This is no-frills camping. FHU sites lined up in rows with little room between. The section we were in was fairly new and not many sites were level. Whole area is lighted up at night like a prison even though it's not near any streets outside the fairgrounds. There are no amenities, no restrooms, no tables, no host. Convenient to shopping. We camped at North Carolina State Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

There are two campgrounds, this review is for the newer. This is a fairly clean park with occasional aircraft noise. I say fairly clean because of the large number of cigarette butts. Sites are long, narrow, near-level gravel and dirt, separated by narrow strips of grass. There are no trees, picnic tables, or fire rings. Roads are wide dirt and gravel in good condition. Staff are friendly and helpful. Wi-Fi signal is strong near the antenna, but I was unable to get online. Verizon LTE works well. There are showers somewhere in the fairgrounds complex, but they are locked. One must phone and get a staffer to open them. The entrance is on the west side of Youth Center Drive at 35.79633 -78.71773, marked Horse Complex Event Parking Only H7. Turn left at the fork, and drive 0.3 miles to the entrance on the left. Pick a site, phone the number on the sign, and someone will come out to take your payment, cash or check. We camped at North Carolina State Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

We were happy with our stay here. The park is very large with hundreds of sites. It only fills up for the state fair. There is no shade and no real amenities. We liked it because it was very convenient to our family and every thing we wanted to do in Raleigh. There are not many campgrounds in Raleigh, and this one is the most centrally located. The park is extremely well maintained by the fairgrounds staff. We camped at North Carolina State Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

We stayed here while attending a bluegrass music conference in Raleigh, so the rate might reflect a fee negotiated for conference attendees. The fairgrounds recently completed this phase of the campground with plans to double the size in the next few years. They also plan to add bath houses in the next year. Sites are level, stone pads. Interior roads are gravel, and plenty wide and easy to navigate. Wi-Fi signal was reasonably strong, even toward the back where we stayed. The back half of the sites have different water connections than the front half. We had an issue maintaining water pressure and ended up having to scab off the site next to us. Also, the electric went out numerous times during our week-long stay, which was a bit worrisome. They apologized for the interruption, and it always came back on soon, but still something they need to address. Campground locations in Raleigh are somewhat limited, so this seemed to be the best option for us. We'll certainly stay here again, hoping they can address the electrical and water issues. We camped at North Carolina State Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Sites were mostly level, good utilities but no amenities such as tables, fire rings, bathhouse etc. It is centrally located to activities in the Raleigh/Cary area. For the price, it was adequate. You call the fairgrounds security office and they will take you to the site, collect the fees, etc. Would stay again if in the area. We camped at North Carolina State Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

A hidden gem in Raleigh! If your passing through or planning on staying for a while, this is an excellent place to stay. You'll need a full service rig though as they have no bathrooms or shower houses. They have many hook ups / locations, however recommend staying in the newer location near the Horse center. Also, recommend calling security (number on web site) when you arrive and they can escort you back. Very reasonably priced for a full hook up, and centrally located to anything in Raleigh. We camped at North Carolina State Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.
