Not much to add except cell service: No AT&T service at all in this area. Verizon is weak. We had 1 bar of 1x Extended but when we turned on our weBoost cell signal booster we were able to get 3bars of LTE 5G. We camped at Stone Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Some Mountain had extremely friendly staff and level, large sites. There is a lot of hiking and trout fishing available but not much else. The power was also so low, mostly 110 or less, that my surge suppressor kept disconnecting. Nice place for a quick overnight or two but not recommended for longer stay. We camped at Stone Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful state park and campground. Easy drive into park to campsites. Firewood available. Our site was level with ample space (grass) between next site. The area behind our site was wooded with a stream. We were in a mini loop with only 4 sites (40-43). Even though located near entrance of the RV sites, I highly recommend this loop due to size of sites and privacy. Most other sites did appear level. A stream runs through center of CG. Site #55 looked great as it was set apart from other sites in its loop with a stream on one side. Bathroom was always clean. Campground was quiet. Dumpsters are only located at entrance of campground, not dispersed throughout, which I had not encountered before. No wifi, no Verizon service for me, we could get a few antenna channels. Very few mosquitoes and flies, but it was only April. We camped at Stone Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Short walk to trail head which leads to either waterfalls (lots of stairs) or stone mountain summit. A few minutes drive will take you to Widows Creek Falls, located just off the road for immediate waterfall gratification (with tons of butterflies).

We have camped here several times and have always had a good experience. This time was the earliest in the season that we have stayed. It was not crowded and understandably some of the facilities were still winterized. B Loop has some great RV sites with a stream running through the middle. There's easy access to the Stone Mountain Loop Trail which takes you up top and you can also walk down and check out the falls. The sites are fairly large with a nice fire ring. Very family friendly. The staff have always been friendly and helpful. I will say some of the sites are a little small for any travel trailers or fifth wheels greater than 30 feet so look at the details closely before reserving. One thing I actually like is that there is little to no cell phone service in the park. It is nice to shut that down for a weekend with family. We camped at Stone Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This park is in a great location and hiking is excellent. The campground is clean and sites are spacious. The electric sites are fairly open and closer to each other. The non-electric sites in the older loop have gravel campsites that are somewhat more private vs. the paved ones with electric. Cell service is spotty as well as TV but most campsites probably have clear line of site for satellite. We camped at Stone Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Park is convenient to Yadkin Valley Wine country and the Blue Ridge Parkway. I hate to say it but avoid the park in the fall (Late Sept to mid-late October) unless you like stink bugs. They literally coat the sunny side of your trailer and get into everything including your trailer and you will still be dealing with them months later and the following spring. They were so bad that I saw another trailer in the electric loop using a leaf blower to clear the side of the trailer of the bugs.

Our truck had some mechanical issues, so we decided to use the reserved campsite and tent camp...the hottest weekend of the year! The campground was very nice and well maintained. Each site had concrete drive and a nice tent pad. There's not very much shade, and we had one of the more shaded spots next to the woods. The nights were cool and we had wild turkeys come through our campsite twice. This was our first visit to the park and we'll be back. We had to use the restroom facilities and there were a few simple things that needed fixing, like the hook in the shower came unattached and my towel fell on the ground. Loved the park, great hiking and found a great waterhole to cool off! We camped at site 61. We camped at Stone Mountain State Park in a Tent.

Take the hike to the homestead and see beautiful stone mountain....drive a little further to find a cool waterhole...we found one with a sliding rocks that the kids were playing on. The stone mountain falls hike is beautiful, but a lot of steps!

Being from Indiana, we still haven't figured out how NC is able to offer these type of parks for such a good value. No fee for admitance, inexpensive yet excellent campsites. Lots of outdoor/nature things to do.

They could improve the number of signs getting to the park and inside of the park. The roads inside the park were easy to navigate in a motorhome. The sites were long enough for your unit and another vehicle to park without sticking out in the road. Our Verizon phones worked but our Daughter's ATT had no reception at all. The 4g was also not there.

Water and electric were both easy to hook up. The dump station was a little short on the turns but still accessable.

This park is a gem. We camped at Stone Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Beautiful outdoor experience. No cell phone service so expect a quiet visit. Local TV spotty but usable if you pick a central campsite near the creek. Staff friendly and helpful. Small but sufficient bathroom facilities. Deer plentiful for wildlife viewing and photos. We stayed two and then three nights the following week. The park is not overly easy to find due to lack of signage outside the park, but once you get there it's a real beauty. The park and grounds, including the campground, are well kept up and clean. The camper check-in building is right on the way in so it's easy to get to, but the road is one-way, so very long rigs may have some difficulty making the right turn to get back on the road that leads to the campground after check-in. Also be advised that once the check-in closes the park gate is locked, so be sure to check the closing time and get there in advance of that time.

The campground is very clean and easy to navigate. Bathrooms have all been recently remodeled and are clean and well maintained. All the spots are in great shape and should not require a great deal of leveling. Electrical and water service are close in all spots that I looked at, and all were in excellent shape. Park staff are helpful and friendly and signage inside the park is well done. Garbage dumpsters and dump station are located at the entrance of the park, but should not impede traffic flow unless there are a large number of vehicles waiting. Firewood can be purchased at check-in or in the campground during certain times. The wood was $5 a bundle and was excellent quality when we visited. We stayed in a spot right on the stream that runs through the campground and it was very, very scenic. The campground accommodates large rigs without a lot of trouble, but not all spots are sized for larger units.

The park itself is amazing with lots to do (hiking, bird watching, historical buildings, and visitors center.) The mountain hike is well worth the effort and there are multiple waterfalls to see as well. We camped at Stone Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

A hidden jewel in NC. Fall colors were gorgeous. Large level sites and all have fire rings and plenty of scenic views. We were in site 56 which is on the stream. The park is immaculate and the park rangers patrol the park. The bathrooms are new and clean. It is a very quiet and peaceful park. My husband fished in the trout streams. The Hutchinson Homestead is not to be missed. One of my very favorite state parks! We camped at Stone Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Camped on site 66 which is in the open part of the campground. Site was gravel an pretty level. Showers were small but clean an modern. Campground was pretty full on the weekend but pretty empty by Tuesday. No cell service or over the air TV but Dish Tailgater worked well with a good view to the south. Local wineries are very good. Had a very nice meal and bottle of wine at Elk Creek vineyard. Pretty convenient to Elkin. Hike to the top of Stone mountain is pretty steep but the views are well worth it. Great campground. Lots are very large, easy to get in. Great hiking within walking distance. Only downside, showers were small and you have to keep pushing the fixture to keep water flowing. Will definitely visit again. We camped at Stone Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.
