We just love this campground for all the wonderful trails, waterfalls, sliding rock and cool swimming holes. We reserved site #49 and it long enough for my 35' travel trailer, two F250 trucks and a minivan parked in front of it. The sites on the B-loop are EW and spaced apart. Some sites are new the creek that runs though the B-loop. NC State parks added an access road at the other end of the main campground road to allow after hours access only to the campground after the main park entrance is locked. We camped at Stone Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

2nd visit here. Great place to camp with your dog. We were in site 57 which was close to a trail that runs along the creek. Widows Creek Falls was a cool place to visit in the park with temps in the 90s at the campground. We camped at Stone Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

The park is nice, sites are spacious with a large tent pad/patio, but not much shade. The roads are narrow and two ways. Our site pitched heavily to one side making it hard to level side to side (thank goodness for automatic jacks). It was quiet. We had no cell or internet service. The trails were well marked and well maintained. There is a Dollar General about 2 miles from the park. We camped at Stone Mountain State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Only problem was push button shower only ran for 6 seconds. This should be adjusted to at least 30 seconds to allow hair washing. We camped at Stone Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this park. Had trouble finding our site after hours because the signs only face one direction, which is opposite from the night access. Surprisingly large level sites. Ours backed up to running water and was very nice. Lots to do in park. Plenty of hiking and climbing. Great value for the money. Very friendly staff, and camp hosts kept the sites impeccably clean. Cell signal came and went. Would definitely stay here again! We camped at Stone Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

The ONLY bad thing we found about this park was that the showers are awful-push button and spray all over the place. The one con was that there is no cell service though some report Verizon with a booster (we had none and non with boosted AT&T) but the Visitor Center has free WiFi with a password. There is a separate night access road (park closing varies with the season) and GPS MAY direct you to either Alleghany Spur Rd or Longbottom Rd-in either case you want the John P Frank Parkway off Traphill Rd which goes straight to the Visitor Center then follow the signs to the campground. Located near the Blue Ridge Parkway day trips to Linville Falls, Grandfather Mountain or Blue Ridge Music Center are all possible or stay in the park and hike. We were there for 5 days and would have stayed longer had a space been available-it fills up on the weekends. If you hike to Stone Mountain Falls be prepared for 200+ stairs down and back up and wear waterproof boots if going to the lower falls. If you go south to Linville or Grandfather Mountain on the BRP the easiest and fastest way back is 321 to Boone then 421 to 16 then 18 to Traphill Rd to JPHenry Pkwy. We camped at Stone Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Watch out for weird GPS directions-take Traphill Rd to John P Frank Parkway to the Visitor Center then follow signs to campground. After hours access comes straight to the campground. Go to the Visitor Center to get the WiFi password and then you can use it in the parking lot if the VC is closed. There is intermittent reception on the way up to Stone Mountain an easy-moderate hike of about 1/2-3/4 hour.

We took our new travel trailer for its inaugural trip to Stone Mountain State Part for New Years. We stayed in the B Loop with water and power. We have stayed here before and enjoyed the park and campground. The campground was in excellent condition and clean. The bathrooms were well maintained and were cleaned multiple times per day. The sites were clean and prepared for visitors. The state park is beautiful, but had sustained some weather damage in the fall and the Stone Mountain Loop was closed. We did other hikes that proved equally as enjoyable to start our new year. Our only challenge, keeping our rating a little lower that previously, was due to the weather. We had a cold spell that keep the temperatures below freezing most of our stay and we did not have any water in the campsite. There was water in the bathhouse, so we made due. The park staff tried to help, but the cold won. We will return to this campground, but will watch the weather a little closer. We camped at Stone Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Some Mountain had extremely friendly staff and level, large sites. There is a lot of hiking and trout fishing available but not much else. The power was also so low, mostly 110 or less, that my surge suppressor kept disconnecting. Nice place for a quick overnight or two but not recommended for longer stay. Not much to add except cell service: No AT&T service at all in this area. Verizon is weak. We had 1 bar of 1x Extended but when we turned on our weBoost cell signal booster we were able to get 3bars of LTE 5G. We camped at Stone Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Beautiful state park and campground. Easy drive into park to campsites. Firewood available. Our site was level with ample space (grass) between next site. The area behind our site was wooded with a stream. We were in a mini loop with only 4 sites (40-43). Even though located near entrance of the RV sites, I highly recommend this loop due to size of sites and privacy. Most other sites did appear level. A stream runs through center of CG. Site #55 looked great as it was set apart from other sites in its loop with a stream on one side. Bathroom was always clean. Campground was quiet. Dumpsters are only located at entrance of campground, not dispersed throughout, which I had not encountered before. No wifi, no Verizon service for me, we could get a few antenna channels. Very few mosquitoes and flies, but it was only April. We camped at Stone Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Short walk to trail head which leads to either waterfalls (lots of stairs) or stone mountain summit. A few minutes drive will take you to Widows Creek Falls, located just off the road for immediate waterfall gratification (with tons of butterflies).

We have camped here several times and have always had a good experience. This time was the earliest in the season that we have stayed. It was not crowded and understandably some of the facilities were still winterized. B Loop has some great RV sites with a stream running through the middle. There's easy access to the Stone Mountain Loop Trail which takes you up top and you can also walk down and check out the falls. The sites are fairly large with a nice fire ring. Very family friendly. The staff have always been friendly and helpful. I will say some of the sites are a little small for any travel trailers or fifth wheels greater than 30 feet so look at the details closely before reserving. One thing I actually like is that there is little to no cell phone service in the park. It is nice to shut that down for a weekend with family. We camped at Stone Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This park is in a great location and hiking is excellent. The campground is clean and sites are spacious. The electric sites are fairly open and closer to each other. The non-electric sites in the older loop have gravel campsites that are somewhat more private vs. the paved ones with electric. Cell service is spotty as well as TV but most campsites probably have clear line of site for satellite. We camped at Stone Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Park is convenient to Yadkin Valley Wine country and the Blue Ridge Parkway. I hate to say it but avoid the park in the fall (Late Sept to mid-late October) unless you like stink bugs. They literally coat the sunny side of your trailer and get into everything including your trailer and you will still be dealing with them months later and the following spring. They were so bad that I saw another trailer in the electric loop using a leaf blower to clear the side of the trailer of the bugs.

Our truck had some mechanical issues, so we decided to use the reserved campsite and tent camp...the hottest weekend of the year! The campground was very nice and well maintained. Each site had concrete drive and a nice tent pad. There's not very much shade, and we had one of the more shaded spots next to the woods. The nights were cool and we had wild turkeys come through our campsite twice. This was our first visit to the park and we'll be back. We had to use the restroom facilities and there were a few simple things that needed fixing, like the hook in the shower came unattached and my towel fell on the ground. Loved the park, great hiking and found a great waterhole to cool off! We camped at site 61. We camped at Stone Mountain State Park in a Tent.
