Campground is right on the beach. Asphalt interior roads need some repair. Our site had a level asphalt surface with full hookups. Some sites were grass surface and had large puddles after a heavy rain. Power and water pressure were good. Cable was not very clear even after they tried to fix it. We used our satellite so did not care about the cable that much. WiFi at the site was basically non existent. Went to the office to complain and was told to use it in the office area. It worked well there but was a hike from our site. Nice sized pool but the hot tub was not very hot. We camped at Cape Hatteras KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Camp right on the beach in Cape Hatteras, but it is pricey. If is it raining, or rain is forecast, ask for a site that has an asphalt pad. Our site (#227) had a big puddle at the bottom of the stairs. To be fair, they had a lot of rain and there were large puddles and small lakes throughout Cape Hatteras. Some sites have shelters or "patios", but not all. WiFi was inconsistent; not up to the standards of other KOA campgrounds. Staff is great. We would stay here again, but I would check out the other campgrounds and compare prices. We camped at Cape Hatteras KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

If you are looking for a bookstore, Buxton Books is a great place to stop about 20 miles south of the campground. Lots of good food. Try the Watermans or Good Winds. There is also a nice cafe at the park, open 8-3 weekdays and 8-8 weekends.

We stayed here during Memorial Day Weekend. Although this park is on the higher side of what we would normally pay per night, 1-We stayed during a holiday weekend, 2-We opted for one of their deluxe/upgraded sites, 3-We have stayed here many times before and the thought of a $100 was well worth it. We have traveled to many parks from local municipal parks to Fort Wilderness and this park ranks near the top. ALL of the staff are super friendly. The sites are wide enough to live outside of your RV. All of the facilities are cleaned. There are tons of things for the kids to do. We camped at Cape Hatteras KOA in a Motorhome.

This is a great location to the outer banks. There are plenty of things to do nearby but it's a more quiet part, not as busy as Kitty Hawk or Nags Head. You can't get closer to the beach as it backs right up to it. If you can get one of the spots that back up the the dunes, those are ideal. We were in 1 of those sites and I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much had we stayed in 1 of the middle or front sites. The facilities are top notch. The store had some souvenirs and basic supplies. The bathhouses were newer and clean and they have 2 very nice laundromats here with double sized washers and dryers for $1.75/load. Wifi didn't reach throughout the park well and they told you that when you check in. We used our Verizon and ATT hotspots which both had good speeds. Verizon 60d/l and ATT 13 d/l unboosted. Cable was good, power was strong and the staff was very friendly. This a great area for dogs as you can walk right to the beach which is dog friendly. They also have a free onsite pet washing station which was a nice perk. There is so much to do here I won't go into detail but 1 thing I'll mention is that we rented a jeep from Island Cruisers and took it up to the 4x4 beach in Corolla where wild horses roam. We saw a ton of wild horses and that was a really cool experience. I could write a 5 star review about the staff at Island Cruisers. They gave a ton of info and were very helpful. Had the price been lower or landscaping been nicer, I would have considered 5stars but given how much it cost here, I expected the sites to be nicer and not just a huge parking lot. We camped at Cape Hatteras KOA in a Motorhome.

This place can rightfully call itself a RESORT. It has everything and the beach is only a walk across the dunes. Huge area for the kids. The pool wrapped around the clubhouse and was crystal clear. Decent store. There is no shade. No privacy between sites. The sites are asphalt and level with nice grass between them. I would go there again but it is very pricey for an overnight stop. Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is on the ocean side of the road and right across the street from the sound where you can see beautiful sunsets. There are many nice amenities like a large pool with water slides, a bounce pad, playground, and arcade. The laundry room is really nice and clean. We were there in March and there were hardly any other people camping there at the time so we pretty much had the whole place to ourselves. Of course since it was March it was really cold and we did not use the pool even though it is open year-round. I imagine this park is really crowded and busy in the summer months. It was a 30 minute drive to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse which was worth the visit. Verizon and AT&T worked well. We camped at Cape Hatteras KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful campground with views of the bay and just steps to the beach over the dunes. Grass and gravel sites many long enough to stay hooked up. No trouble navigating the park with out 40' fifth wheel. Cable works good and WiFi is ok. (Omni WiFi, I'm not a fan with previous experiences.) Very nice dog park, pool and play area for the kids. This is our favorite place to stay when visiting the OBX. It's located right on the ocean and across the street from the sound. It's also within walking distance of great restaurants. The roads are wide and super easy to navigate and the sites are roomy too. We love that we can walk the dogs on the beach and also that they are safe and happy walking around the park as well. It's a well-maintained and clean park with a friendly and helpful staff. We visit each fall and spring. We camped at Cape Hatteras KOA in a Motorhome.

Some may say this park is a little expensive however with the service, cleanliness and amenities you get it is well worth it. Also, location. This park has a great/giant pool. Has a huge hot tub. Nice store with a nice restaurant. Bathrooms and Showers were clean and looked like they were cleaned several times a day. Sites are great. We paid a little more for the patio site, full hook up 50amp and it was well worth it. Keeps site clean. The best part of this park is it backs up to a private section of beach. What a huge plus. This park is perfectly located with about a half hour trip each way with plenty to do. Took the truck over to Ocracoke Island for the day. Great little shopping and bar/food. We will surely return here. Definitely worth it. We camped at Cape Hatteras KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

First time in Outer Banks. This location worked as it was midpoint down peninsula, about 1hr south of Kill Devil Hills. Stayed 3 nights here. Site #406 Was level and steps to beach. You can hear waves from campsite at night. No water view due to sand dunes but KOA had everything you need. We camped at Cape Hatteras KOA in a Motorhome.

Price was for ocean front with sun shelter. Went down to $40 Dec 1. We stayed in the off season so we did not encounter the traffic or crowds mentioned in other reviews. We did think the $73 rate for the nights in November was a bit high. This KOA had the best bathhouse facilities we have encountered. Each shower is actually a fairly large full bath with a toilet and sink. Would be ideal for families. The only improvement would be a bench or chair to make dressing/putting on shoes easier. Each bathhouse also has a laundry room, which was very convenient. Snack bar was closed for season but the prices looked reasonable. Nice pool, hot tub, we'll stocked sore and friendly staff. We camped at Cape Hatteras KOA in a Motorhome.

This is our 5th fall visit to this campground. For us, it's the perfect time to visit The Outer Banks, as long as there isn't a hurricane in the forecast! The crowds are gone & the campground is sparsely occupied. Every year, we have lucked out with amazing weather - some days it was even necessary to put our Sportsbrella up while at the beach so that our dog could have some shade. We had Site 320 this year, steps from the beach. The site was level & the full hookups were well located & working. Wi-Fi was excellent, as was my Verizon Signal.

Cable also worked well, with a good variety of channels available. There is a well stocked camp store & a snack bar, which we did not go to. There is a large fenced off-leash dog area - our dog loves it there! At this time of year many of the stores & restaurants are closed & the only major shopping is in Avon (Food Lion, Ace Hardware) located some 20 miles south. The ABC store is even further down Route 12 south, so arrive prepared. We did have an absolutely delicious bowl of seafood chowder at "Good Winds" in Rodanthe, but were told the restaurant will soon be closing until mid-Feb. We camped at Cape Hatteras KOA in a Travel Trailer.

I was very impressed when we drove in the campground. I noticed the cleanliness of the park. When entering the office/store we were created with very considerate ladies. They were informational and helpful. This was my first time to the Outer Banks but no the first time staying in a campground. I have told several friends and family about my experience and they are planning trips this fall. I can't wait to go back. They do have an incredible sunset spot. It within itself is worth the trip. Friendly, clean and homey feelings. Thanks for everything. We camped at Cape Hatteras KOA in a Cabin.
