First time in Outer Banks. This location worked as it was midpoint down peninsula, about 1hr south of Kill Devil Hills. Stayed 3 nights here. Site #406 Was level and steps to beach. You can hear waves from campsite at night. No water view due to sand dunes but KOA had everything you need. We camped at Cape Hatteras KOA in a Motorhome.

Some may say this park is a little expensive however with the service, cleanliness and amenities you get it is well worth it. Also, location. This park has a great/giant pool. Has a huge hot tub. Nice store with a nice restaurant. Bathrooms and Showers were clean and looked like they were cleaned several times a day. Sites are great. We paid a little more for the patio site, full hook up 50amp and it was well worth it. Keeps site clean. The best part of this park is it backs up to a private section of beach. What a huge plus. This park is perfectly located with about a half hour trip each way with plenty to do. Took the truck over to Ocracoke Island for the day. Great little shopping and bar/food. We will surely return here. Definitely worth it. We camped at Cape Hatteras KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

This is our 5th fall visit to this campground. For us, it's the perfect time to visit The Outer Banks, as long as there isn't a hurricane in the forecast! The crowds are gone & the campground is sparsely occupied. Every year, we have lucked out with amazing weather - some days it was even necessary to put our Sportsbrella up while at the beach so that our dog could have some shade. We had Site 320 this year, steps from the beach. The site was level & the full hookups were well located & working. Wi-Fi was excellent, as was my Verizon Signal.

Cable also worked well, with a good variety of channels available. There is a well stocked camp store & a snack bar, which we did not go to. There is a large fenced off-leash dog area - our dog loves it there! At this time of year many of the stores & restaurants are closed & the only major shopping is in Avon (Food Lion, Ace Hardware) located some 20 miles south. The ABC store is even further down Route 12 south, so arrive prepared. We did have an absolutely delicious bowl of seafood chowder at "Good Winds" in Rodanthe, but were told the restaurant will soon be closing until mid-Feb. We camped at Cape Hatteras KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Price was for ocean front with sun shelter. Went down to $40 Dec 1. We stayed in the off season so we did not encounter the traffic or crowds mentioned in other reviews. We did think the $73 rate for the nights in November was a bit high. This KOA had the best bathhouse facilities we have encountered. Each shower is actually a fairly large full bath with a toilet and sink. Would be ideal for families. The only improvement would be a bench or chair to make dressing/putting on shoes easier. Each bathhouse also has a laundry room, which was very convenient. Snack bar was closed for season but the prices looked reasonable. Nice pool, hot tub, we'll stocked sore and friendly staff. We camped at Cape Hatteras KOA in a Motorhome.

I was very impressed when we drove in the campground. I noticed the cleanliness of the park. When entering the office/store we were created with very considerate ladies. They were informational and helpful. This was my first time to the Outer Banks but no the first time staying in a campground. I have told several friends and family about my experience and they are planning trips this fall. I can't wait to go back. They do have an incredible sunset spot. It within itself is worth the trip. Friendly, clean and homey feelings. Thanks for everything. We camped at Cape Hatteras KOA in a Cabin.

This was out 2nd trip to Cape Hatteras and our 1st stay at this KOA. Last time we stayed at a "Resort" just north of the KOA. Amenities at the KOA far exceeded those at the "Resort". Further, the grass was not overrun with sand burs. You can actually walk around in the grass barefoot and not worry about stepping on stickers. The pool at this facility is huge and has 2 slides. The campground has 2 beach access ramps with rise showers on the campground side of both accesses. We stayed at a concrete pad site and had mucho real estate. For the price paid, KOA really needs to upgrade their WiFi system! We were relatively close to a hot spot and still suffered with painstakingly slow service. One feature I really liked about this Campground were the number and different kinds of cabins available. The people next to us were having a 4-family reunion; 1 family in their RV and the other 3 in deluxe cabins. Inspired me to consider doing the same thin in a couple of years. We would/will stay here again. We camped at Cape Hatteras KOA in a Motorhome.

We are KOA members and use them frequently. We know they are not all Taj Mahal's but they usually have a standard. Kind of like McDonald's. Not the best burger in the world, but you know what you get when you order. This one is Good but NOT great. Overpriced for what it is. They had a big display in the office/store with an article about this being the "First Company Owned KOA Resort" and it talked about how KOA moved to the tiers and how this one was NOT franchised, etc. I told my wife I would expect much better from the Company's flagship. The wi-fi was sketchy at best, and non-existant in most of the park. At check in they tell you, if you really need internet, come sit in the office or cafe. Also the cable is horrendous, snowy and would quit daily around the noon hour. Some people like to come back to their campers and get a break from the heat, watch a little TV and have lunch, you won't do it here. Most disturbing was the lack of security. Others in the area have attendants and the entrance making sure people coming in belong there, not so here. At check-in we were told "the locals come in here and steal stuff. They really like Yeti coolers." I also noted that there was not security at the beach access and essentially you are paying for all the people on the beach to have a really nice bathroom to use as you can watch them come into the park from the beach, use the bathroom and then leave. The locals all use the main road as their main access to the beach as well. It is not uncommon to see people riding bikes and walking in from Route 12 unchallenged. It would not cost much to have a gate at the beach with a code or swipe card access. We left a day early and lost the days rental rate and didn't feel that bad about it. We did have problems with some people from India in a rented RV who didn't understand personal space, etc. They responded immediately and tried to help. We camped at Cape Hatteras KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

This is the "quiet side" of the OBX. If you want shopping close at hand, stay on the North side of the 64 bridge. The Food Lion 14 miles south is reasonably priced and well stocked.

This is my second time staying at this KOA. Since I stayed last, the park has been completely renovated due to hurricane Irene washing it away. The 6.2MM worth of renovations were extremely apparent. The camp store and restaurant were really impressive. They also completely renovated the pool area and it is awesome. My only complaint is that we stayed on the sites right beside the dunes and they have a natural bush that is encroaching into the sites that is full of burs. There were many times that the kids got it stuck in their feet. I also think we will be pulling burs out of our camper for awhile. Overall, great campground. Awesome location. Very nice renovated campground. We camped at Cape Hatteras KOA in a Travel Trailer.

I wouldn't worry about staying right on the front row by the dunes.. Somewhere within the first 3 rows closest to the beach is worth it.

The location of this campground is its biggest asset. We enjoyed the beach and the local restaurants. However, it is way overpriced for what is offered. We had one of the deluxe pull-thru sites and in the photo online and description they mentioned patio furniture. When we arrived however, patio furniture was only on a few sites. I am sure there is small print somewhere saying it is not guaranteed, but it is very misleading to put it in the photo and description that you click on to select that site. We went to rent bikes and found there were none available. A staff member told us to check with the campground next door, which we did, but they only rent bikes to their own guests. There was nowhere to park near the beach access, so if you have difficulty walking long distances or a handicap, you need to have someone drive down and drop you off. Our site was large, level, and long enough for our camper, our tow vehicle, and our car. Other sites closer to the beach were very cramped and close together, and the roads were narrow. We camped at Cape Hatteras KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

While it is a little pricey for our 30 amp pull through, the location cannot be beat. About equal distance to Cape Hatteras to the south and Kitty Hawk to the north. Wish they had more 50 amp sites as they were none available. The laundry and bathroom facilities were clean. It was a little strange to me that the best sites with paved patios were the furthest away from the beach. Beach front sites are nice as well but you cannot see the water due to the dunes. Store was well stocked and the kids loved the grill that served breakfast and lunch. We camped at Cape Hatteras KOA in a Motorhome.

I would have rated the park a little higher, but there are a few issues. 1. Overpriced for what you get. 2. No separation from costly "Premium Full Hook Up" sites and overcrowded, overwhelmed tent sites. I'm not anti-tent, but allowing numerous cars to be parked almost halfway on the roadways (it was difficult to back out of my site with my truck), more than two tents per site, and 4 to 5 people per tent, spread across 3 tent sites meant there were more than 20 people on 3 sites and they had no idea of campground etiquette and were crossing through our site to get to the restrooms (and yes, I did ask them not to do that). To the campground's credit, they did eventually have this group move two of their bigger tents to another tent area. That size group was just way too much for the area they were in. 3. The roadways are very tight (even without cars parked halfway in them). 4. Nowhere near the beach to park a vehicle (needed if you have a handicap). On a positive note, the campground is clean, nicely landscaped, the site we were on was nice with a picnic table, concrete patio, and fire ring, and the staff was very friendly. They have a well stocked camp store and a nice small restaurant on site. We probably would not stay here again. We camped at Cape Hatteras KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

First time visit to this campground and I WILL BE BACK. Absolutely awesome experience. A bit pricey but well worth it. So close to the beach. Sites were a bit closer than I like but definitely worth the reduced convenience of large sites. Staff was amazing and very accommodating. We camped at Cape Hatteras KOA in a Motorhome.

This is a beachfront KOA. If U R a sun worshiper this is good place to stay all east road lead the beach, we didn't partake in the beach but the KOA crowd starts in the 9am area until dark. Lotsa kids here but it was quite in the mh. Good place to be if U R into history of the OB. The food is okay but not the all of the restaurants are with a waitstaff and some times u need a sense of humor when it comes to the eateries. The KOA is a good place, but there are others with beach and water without the amenities. We camped at Cape Hatteras KOA in a Motorhome.

This location can cover all of the OBs. I would suggest that a 2 day stay here for the Rt64 bridge and south. Then change campsites to the northern end od the OBs and see everything from the rt64 bridge north for 2 days.

We stayed here as we were unaware of any other parks on the beach - mistake. This is a nice park, but overpriced. We were unable to use the pool due to cold weather but would have used the hot tub if it wasn't full of small children or folks drinking mixed drinks with glass bottles each time we planned to use it. IF this park had more adult facilities and good wifi we might stay here again, otherwise I doubt it. There is a rather raggedy dog park. We camped at Cape Hatteras KOA in a Motorhome.
