Overall Rating:

We stayed in site #4, which is one of the water/electric sites right on Pamlico Sound. Very level, and the view was incredible. All the sites were very small and tightly spaced, with zero privacy, which is pretty standard for such prime waterfront real estate (and typical of popular beach destinations, in general). Since the sites were so small, this place was really geared more toward tent campers and those with shorter RVs (25' or less, I'd say). Each site had a picnic table, and most had a fire pit, which is pretty rare in this area (many CGs ban ground fires due to frequent high winds). Bath house was OK. Cleanliness was so-so, depending on the day, but the biggest issue was it was not air-conditioned, so using the restroom was generally a pretty muggy and unpleasant experience. However, the amazing outdoor showers made up for it. They were huge, with great water pressure, and felt great after a long, hot day in the sun. Unfortunately, there was often trash or toiletries left behind from other guests in the showers, but there was so much room and ledge space that it was easy to avoid and didn't bother me. Generally speaking, the bath houses and grounds could stand a little more regular cleaning and maintenance, but since the owners run a water sport rental business from the property, it's obvious that's their main focus. Once checked in, it seems campers are left to their own devices until/unless they want to rent some equipment, because the owners and staff spent all day at the rental booth. I didn't find this to be a problem at all; I just mention this to advise other campers to expect a more hands-off management approach, at least on the camping side. Overall, this is a really neat little campground on the sound, and the prices are great for the area. If you can deal with the tight spacing, minimal upkeep, and lack of big-resort amenities, this is a great, cost-effective option in a gorgeous setting! We camped at Rodanthe Watersports & Campground in a Tent Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The wind here is no joke. Be prepared to securely tie down any tents, pop-up gazebos or screen houses you have. The wind was so strong for two nights that our pop-up was shaking most of the night. The good thing about the wind was it kept the bugs away, because mosquitoes here are brutal when there is no breeze.

This is a gem but for smaller sized units. You are right on the bay and the spot backs to it. There is power and water but the sites are a bit tight but I got in with no issues. The staff are incredibly helpful, attentive and polite. In fact they called us to see if we would be there before they closed and if not told us they put a reserved cone up for us. There is no sewer at this campground but we knew that going in. If it was here I doubt there would be many openings for anyone. There are a lot of tents that don't need sewer and the bath house is clean and nice. We camped at Rodanthe Watersports & Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Lisas Pizza was right next door and the campground rents lots of paddle boards and kayaks. The beach is a bit of a walk away but doable without an issue though if you bring a lot of stuff you might want a cart.

In one word: wonderful! This place is great! I don't remember exactly what we spent per night but whatever it was it was well worth it! First of all, as a woman camping alone with her son, we felt very safe. The staff and campers were so friendly. The campground is very small but wonderfully located. It is on the sound-side which was great for my 10 year-old son. He could walk for several hundred feet in the water and it never went above his waist. The beach is across the street and within a few minutes walk. Also within walking distance is a great pizza/sandwich place, Lisa's Pizza, as well as a few convenience stores. It's also a short drive from the Wright Brothers memorial and the Lost Colony of Roanoke. There is even an outdoor shower (with walls) which was great on the cool evenings. We will definitely stay here again! We camped at Rodanthe Watersports & Campground in a Tent.

We chose this campground, sight unseen, based on the recommendation of friends. If you love the water (this is on the "sound" side of the Outer Banks) and related water sports, this is a great place! They rent jet skis, kayaks, sailboats, surfboards, etc. The sites are extremely tight; the entrance driveway has many holes in it. To our amazement, there is no dumping station. We had the choice to: drive 15 miles one-way to a freebie at a marina or pay $15. to the KOA close-by. We couldn't get a waterfront site, but they were able to accommodate us for the Memorial Day week-end. Since we stayed 8 days, the owner/manager gave us one day free. We camped at Rodanthe Watersports & Campground in a Motorhome.
