Comments made by the previous reviewer are accurate. My site was back-in next to the lake. Be very careful of the trees though when parking. I have Verizon and my signal was 1-bar or altogether non-existent but it made for a quiet evening! I only used the electric service for my own experience night stay but it was rock solid and my surgery protector/monitor detected no problems. Sites are sparsely graveled and could use some redressing. The overall campground is wooded but very nice with a significant amount of space between sites. We camped at Dan Nicholas Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

In the year since I stayed at this campground, the county has added free wi-fi that worked well, after my Verizon phone couldn't find a signal. Nearly all sites were backin, spacious and needed some leveling. The rate shown was likely a senior rate. The entire campground is in dense woods. The roads through the campground are paved, but the sites are gravel. It appeared that all sites had 30 and 50 amp service along with a water spigot. The park was busy over the weekend, but by Sunday afternoon, nearly everyone left. The 3:00 pm checkout time is good for weekenders. The restrooms were clean and the showers were free and private. The campground is in the much larger Dan Nicholas Park with many shelters and activities galore on the 10 acres fishing lake. It's about 7 miles into Salisbury from the campground. We would definitely stay again if in the area. We camped at Dan Nicholas Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

For train watching fans, you can't beat Salisbury. The railroad tracks run through the middle of town and are a major Norfolk Southern and Amtrak route through the state. The NC Transportation Museum is just down the road in Spencer and is well worth a visit for all the RR gear they have. Salisbury is a historic city well worth exploring. Oh yeah, have lunch at Hap's Grill, hot dogs "all the way," and a Cheerwine soda, all served up in a 9 foot wide building.

We camped near the lake. Our sites and the ones around us were not level. We finally got leveled with wooden blocks under our levelers. Had one wheel 6 inches off the ground. The county has put a lot of thought and money into the lovely adjacent park. It seems they could spend a few more bucks and bring in some gravel to level the sites. When we first hooked up, my circuit tester showed one leg of the 50 amp service was dead. I contacted the office and within 10 minutes a service man showed up at our site and made the repairs. Apparently the circuit breaker had gone bad. The service man and the lady at the office were both very friendly and helpful. We camped at Dan Nicholas Park in a Motorhome.

Sites are mostly back-in in dense woods, with others within 50 feet or so. No WiFi, but Verizon service was good as were plenty of TV channels. Frustrating to have no exit signs at all, leading me to wander aimlessly trying to find my way out of the campground. OK for big rigs but watch out for nearby trees. Park was full over Father's Day weekend. Checkout time is 3:00 pm, a bonus for weekenders. We'd stay again when in the area. We camped at Dan Nicholas Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here while visiting family nearby. Staff was very friendly and helpful, and the park is beautiful. The restroom/bath was first rate, well stocked and cleaned daily. Most of the attractions were closed due to the season, and so for the most part we had the campground to ourselves, a little busier during the weekend. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Dan Nicholas Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is our second time staying here, and it was a great weekend once again. The sites are fairly level and well shaded. Each one had a fire ring and picnic table. The biggest attraction to coming here is the family friendly park just a short walk from the campground. They have a small zoo, petting zoo, miniature train ride, carousel, mini golf, paddle boats, fishing, and a playground. Everything is very economically priced. If you have kids under 10 this would be a great place to stay for a weekend. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Dan Nicholas Park in a Motorhome.

This is a great getaway, clean, quiet, paved roads and most sites fairly level. No sewer hookups but had a dump station but had navigate the park to get it on the correct side. Plenty for the younger crowd to do. Close by the NC Transportation museum in Spencer, worth the trip especially for train buffs. Cell phone and air card limited but you know that was ok too. Will be back, had a very pleasant weekend. We camped at Dan Nicholas Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Parking for big rigs was extremely tight, and we almost called a tow truck after getting stuck pulling into our "pull-through" space, which was a tight arc. Two good Samaritans came and helped us figure out how to ease the rig all the way in. We couldn't get any help from the campground. Once we were parked, we had a lovely time. It's a beautiful campground with lots of trees. The bathrooms are kept very clean and cheerful. Everyone we met was very friendly. The attractions at the park are fun, and especially good for younger kids (10 and under). We camped at Dan Nicholas Park in a Travel Trailer.

Very enjoyable park. The site we had was very huge and very easy to get into. The only reason I have lowered my score was due to the dogwood tree that was right in front of camper. I could not put my patio mat out or my awning. The kids enjoyed the park that is on the other side. It has a nice train, merry go round, zoo, petting zoo and water fountain that the kids played in. We camped at Dan Nicholas Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is one of our favorite weekend campgrounds. The roads into the campground are paved. The camp sites are rustic but okay if you use mats to keep from tracking in dirt. It's a good place to relax and ride backs. There's a lot for small kids to do in the small park just across the lake from the campground. And the campground is just a few miles from High Rock Lake as well. We camped at Dan Nicholas Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

The sites at this park are very large, shaded and well spaced. A number of the rv sites were sloped especially around the lake; pads could have been leveled better and had more gravel base. Lots to do at this park for kids. The park was well maintained, clean and quiet. This is a good centrally located park to visit a number of the NASCAR garages, museums, etc. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Dan Nicholas Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

We spent three nights at this park while traveling to the NC coast. The sites are quite large, very wooded, and rather private. The campground was busy during our stay but was still quiet. The bath houses were old and only two showers but they were always clean. The only thing lacking at this campground is sewer hookups. We would stay here again if we are in the area. We camped at Dan Nicholas Park in a Motorhome.

Some sights more level than others. We we near the lake. Very shaded but in March didn't have leaves to take advantage of. Very close to activities in park, fishing, (no fishing on Sunday's) train ride, paddle boats, gem mining. The park is still working on an animal exhibit. We were able to make advanced reservations. Quaint camp store; bought firewood. We camped at Dan Nicholas Park in a Travel Trailer.
