I was very impressed with this park and will definitely stay here again. The check-in was fast and easy, the park was clean and well-maintained, the staff was very friendly and helpful, and the site was pretty level. The only downside was highway noise, but there's not much you can do about that and it wasn't too noisy. I recommend a site by the river. We camped at Asheville East KOA in a Motorhome.

We followed the directions provided online and in the KOA directory and found it without a problem. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I was led to the site and offered alternatives to back our trailer in near the river by the staff worker. Other campers were very friendly. The wifi and Internet connections were the best and fastest we've encountered in our grand 9000-mile, 7-KOA, 6-week, and 18-state maiden-voyage RV adventure... (grin). There are trees galore on this campsite... everyone gets shade at some point in the day... Check the images below. . . We camped at Asheville East KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

It's the Smoky Mountains for crying out loud... close to the "Switzerland of the USA" ... {a small region with lots of rich people surrounded by mountains...} [grin] Go visit Asheville or drive the scenic hillside... walk in the river at the campsite, or float down if you like, just to knock the dust off your psyche and relax your soul... You can thank me later. . . Until that time. . .

This was our fourth annual stop at this CG. I have always been impressed with the way they maintain this park and the fact that each year we see the positive result of investment on the part of the owners to upgrade the infastructure. Since their creation we have always opted for the same site and have been very pleased with it. This year two things led me to downgrade my rating. They have expanded the check-in area to a double lane. Unfortunately, the far lane requires a tight turn around a 'decorative' pit of rocks. In addition, someone had parked a car in a no parking area with their rear end extending in to the check-in lane. Luckily, one of the employees was on hand to direct us as we only had inches to clear this obstruction. What upset most was on the morning we were leaving as I was disconnecting I noticed that they had cut the grass the day before and my rear wheel was filled with grass clippings and stones. In addition, the entire length of the coach was coated with grass clippings. Since my wife was feeling unwell and just wanted to get going I didn't have the ability to check for flying stone damage to the side of the coach. I have never had this happen before and I emailed the CG that night and complained but have never heard back from them. Not good for this CG or KOA! We camped at Asheville East KOA in a Motorhome.

Nice folks and beautiful campground. A river divides the campground in two, with a lake on the back half. The office and patio sites are in the front half. We camped at Asheville East KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Although most folks camp here to visit Asheville, we actually liked the town of Black Mountain better because it was much less crowded. Dined with our greyhound at The Social, Pomodoros, Cocula, Universal Joint, Village Wayside and Okie Dokies (all west of the campground) and My Father's Pizza in Black Mountain. All top-notch food and service.

The folks in the office were mostly very nice. The 50 amp, full hook up site was fairly level. This campground is a typical KOA in that everything was adequate, but as usual they charged $10.00 (5 each) for friends to visit us for a couple of hours, milking us every which way they can to make a buck. We camped at Asheville East KOA in a Motorhome.

Very friendly staff. Led us to our site which was very helpful as it is kind of confusing! Spaces are very close together, we were in B section which had a nice patio. Loved the walk by the river and pond! If we stayed again, would request same spot. Wifi slow. could get satellite. We did notice trains but didn't bother us. Tips for other Campers:

Downtown Asheville was really fun! Lots of stores & restaurants only 20 minutes from camp including a Trader Joe's. There was a really nice & big Ingles Grocery just down the road & downtown Swanannoa was a blast. Walked all over & visited many art shops, unique clothing shops & a great local coffee shop.

Tips for other Campers:

Plan ahead and get morning reservations for the Biltmore. The crowds are pretty thick in the afternoon. Spend a few hours in nearby Black Mountain. Charming afternoon walk. I would not recommend the quiche place to eat.

We arrived just before Halloween weekend and got the very last spot. Site #11 up on the hill where the permanent campers/workers live. Lots more quiet than down in the "zoo". Tree were beautiful in their fall colors. Loved the full hookup after our last stop. Especially with the dusting of snow for our heat pumps. Lots of squirrel/bird TV for our cats to view thru the coach windows. The park emptied out and was lovely Monday morning. Great trails around the lakes for cat walking. We camped at Asheville East KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The Blue Ridge parkway was conveniently right down the road. Such a stunning drive this year and an escape from the city bustle. Southbound was closed at MM #402 due to flooding. Hunter Banks Outfitters's is an amazing fly fishing shop! The town of Black Mountain was fun for a shopping day and the Blue Ridge Biscuit Company is a must for breakfast. Country roads galore to meander down and of course the Biltmore Estate with the worlds best ice cream are all nearby!

Overall Rating:

Located in an area convenient to major roads and attractions of Asheville, this is a typical KOA. Sites in the 50 amp section are very close with our picnic table being less than a foot from our neighbors' sewer. The unit behind us was less than a foot from our back bumper. Some of the sites seem to have more room and if you are able to do 30 amp back in sites overlooking the river have a beautiful view. The site was fairly level gravel and utilities were well-placed and easy to use. OTA television was very limited but the cable service was adequate. Both Verizon and Sprint worked well.

There is a small fenced dog yard at the front of the park and a very large area to walk along the river. Laundry room was clean and neat with multiple washers at $1.75 a load. There are three oversized dryers. Trash is picked up each morning in front of the site. Once the campground is full in the 50 amp area the interior roads become tight with all the assorted vehicles. They escort you to your side and help you park, which does make this a little easier. If you are booking at a popular time of year you might want to check several months in advance, as everything was fairly full for the entire five days we were here. We camped at Asheville East KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The Blue Ridge Parkway is 10 minutes from the campground.

The folk art center is well worth a stop. The folk art store in downtown Asheville across from the courthouse has reasonable and beautiful local crafts.

The southern entrance to Great Smoky Mountain National Park is about an hour drive.

Great meal of North Carolina barbecue at OkieDdokies which is just minutes from the campground.

We were only here for 1 night. We got there and pulled up in front of the office and went inside to check in. They said someone would lead us to our site. So we followed him all around a big loop and pulled into a pull through site right beside where we were parked to check in. I could have backed up 30 feet and then turned right and pulled right into the site. Typical crazy KOA! We do not like KOA but every once in a while we relent and use one but they are mostly overpriced and undervalued. But we could manage for 1 night. Utilities were good. We camped at Asheville East KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

This was our third time staying at this campground and it continues to get better. We stayed in one of the deluxe patio sites which I believe are a new addition. These are very nice sites with a good gravel base. The patio is large with a round table and chairs as well as a picnic table, a BBQ and a fire pit. This is a very convenient base for exploring the Asheville/Blue Ridge Parkway area. We camped at Asheville East KOA in a Motorhome.

This was our second trip to this campground and it is a jewel outside of Asheville. Campground was very busy on this holiday weekend but enjoyable. Reserved a lakeside site (passenger side faced lake) and had great views. Had someone on duty at entrance at all times looking for parking/visitor passes. Friendly staff and plenty of family activities on site. Wifi strength was good but speed was slow due to number of users. We camped at Asheville East KOA in a Motorhome.
