We had a lovely time at Mama Gertie's. I don't understand how anyone can rate this campground negatively. Yes, it's terrain is steep. It is on a mountain, though, and if you go for the mountain view sites (highly recommended), you might bite your nails a little on the escorted way up and way down. But a site on the top is simply breathtaking and worth it. As I did not use any facilities, I cannot comment about those. Also, I do not think this is a park geared towards family activities. What you get is a well-maintained CG in a quiet, beautiful setting. Camp hosts were very helpful and pleasant. We were so pleased we booked a return trip already. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

I would add to the other tips that there are a few wineries nearby, or within a day trip's drive. We stumbled upon the Linville Winery and found that to be very enjoyable. Hot Springs, Grandfather Mountain, Blowing Rock are all nice day trips from the camp base.

Wonderful RV park with very friendly staff. We were on the next to the top shelf and next time would try for the top. Great view. Spaces were very nice with good amount of room between rv's and nice landscaping. Good water, sewer and electric. Stayed an extra day we enjoyed it so much. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

Wow! This is a small park outside Asheville, NC and it is beautiful. The road is slightly inclined, but well worth it. The staff was very helpful getting us to our site and helping us park. The office staff was polite, very knowledgeable about the area and just plain great. The camp itself is terraced and beautifully landscaped. It is very evident that someone took a lot of time and thought in the lay out. There are small trees that separate the sites, which are level. Some are gravel and some are concrete. The views from the top sights of the mountains are breathtaking. Restrooms and showers are immaculate as are the laundry and other facilities. This is a beautiful park and we will certainly stay here again. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

Hard not to like this campground. Beautifully maintained and everything works as it should. We stayed in site 32 (the best $55 site) with a beautiful view and plenty of space between sites. As this campground is on the side of a mountain, the roads are steep, but paved roads make the trek uphill manageable. Laundry has ample washers and dryers with change and detergent/softener machines on site. Bathhouse was clean and well maintained. Wifi is powerful. Premium sites ($70) Also have decks, however sites 35, 36, and 37 have better views than sites 33 & 34 (views have electrical wires). We saw wild turkeys every day. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The nearby town of Black Mointain has lots of nice shops and restaraunts without the parking challenges in Asheville. The Asheville Farmer's Market has an incredible array of fresh fruits, vegetables, cheeses, and meats along with lots of crafts and snacks. Worth a trip during your stay.

We stayed at this park in the first part of May. It was beautifully cool and very nicely landscaped, with level graveled pads. Our site was amazingly private.

A note, the entry street is through a residential neighborhood and quite steep/narrow. Just when you think you might be lost, the sign for the campground appears.

It's a mountainous campground, so the internal roads (paved) are quite steep, but after check-in, one of the staff cheerfully guides new arrivals in and helps direct the back-in process very efficiently.

We were very, very pleased with everything there and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone or to go back for a repeat visit. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Do go to Biltmore Estate. We bought the two-day tickets right from the campground and couldn't have been more pleased with how things turned out for us. You'll need to call ahead for a time to tour the house. Be prepared for crowds inside. The gardens and grounds tour wasn't nearly as busy/crowded. Make sure to take the time for the free wine tasting at the winery.

Great park and great people. Roads a tad steep but go slowly and take your time. You are guided to your site and welcomed warmly. The grounds are kept spotless by a nice young man. Good fenced dog run and doggie bag stations through tout the park. We will be back in the future. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Asheville is the place to be. Many things to do in the area.

Beautiful park. The roads are very steep, but don't let it scare you away. We had a lovely site with a concrete pad, picnic table and a lawn tucked among the trees. The staff was very friendly and the young man that escorted us to our site helped me with backing in as we are not very experienced (note: his instructions are 1000% better than those my husband gives!). The location is convenient to all that Asheville has to offer and an easy day trip to Great Smoky Mountain National Park. They are very dog friendly. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The Biltmore Estate is close by. In downtown Asheville we parked in one of the parking structures and they didn't charge us. Farm Burger downtown had a completely unique take on burgers that were excellent. There is a farmer's market that is very nice. Phil's BBQ a few miles up the road from the park was really good.

We had a great experience while staying here for 3 nights. The owners were very helpful and made sure that we enjoyed our stay and had everything needed. They even helped us out with a locksmith when we locked our keys in the motorhome upon a late arrival. They stayed late to make sure that we got checked in and settled in our site. Super clean facilities, best we've seen this year. Showers, restrooms and laundry were meticulous. The setting is very peaceful and beautiful. It costs a bit more for the hilltop spots but the views are unbeatable. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

This campground has been on our to do list for years. This was our first visit,Thanksgiving week. My opinion is, this a campground everyone should visit once to see and experience, but it doesn't make a big impression to want to soon return. Nice folks in the office. Escorted to our site. Although sites were level, getting there is uphill, and leaving is downhill. Sites are laid out well, with some trees and bushes. We usually camp in warmer weather with our grand kids. With no pool, and the the grounds making it difficult to ride bikes, we probably wont return with them later. Short drive into Asheville, and easy access east and west on I-40. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Stayed on the upper level with a wonderful view. Sites were packed gravel, level, easily accessed with a motorhome. Upper level is open with a view of mountains. Lower levels have shade trees. CG is landscaped very good. Staff friendly and helpful. Full hookup - everything worked well. Water pressure is 45 PSI ,but adequate. Access to campground and to upper level has some steep climbs, but presented no problems to driving a motorhome. Guidance provided to site. We stayed in site #32. There are some newer sites under construction on upper level that will have an even more fantastic view with their own decks. We will be back! We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

Well maintained campground. Great staff, beautiful views set in the side of a mountain. Only negative was the long walk to the bottom to leave off garbage. We will return We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful, well-maintained. Super-friendly staff. Shaded and open sites. We stayed in the highest elevation sites with fantastic view, with sites that are pull-through and very level. Paved roads. Very nice fire pits. Wi-Fi was adequate and reliable, if a bit slow. Enjoyed our stay so much we extended it. Many attractions nearby. We would definitely stay here again. This was our first stay at Mama Gertie's but thanks to other reviews on this site we choose it over others in the area. We have a 40' Big Horn 5th wheel and pulling the rig to the very top area, where our site was, is not for the faint of heart, but it was really easy. We were rewarded with a beautiful site with an astounding view! This area is new with packed gravel, very level, all full hookups, and clean. Only new trees at this time. Great staff! Slow internet, good facilities - grade them A! Look forward to going back- We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

We really enjoyed this quiet park. The park is on 3 levels; the top level is the newest and still expanding section with views of the Blue Ridge Parkway. They have done a nice job of providing landscape to help separate sites and more importantly cover the the hook-ups from each site. So when you are sitting outside of your site, you don't have to look at your neighbor's sewer hoses. The park's workers were extremely helpful as they escort everyone to their site and guide you in. Very convenient to Asheville, Black Mountain, Blue Ridge Pkwy; it's only 1/2 mile off I-40. Our Verizon mifi did not work nor did our cell phones; that might reflect our site location, not sure. We had good wifi provided by the park. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.
