Absolutely wonderful park! Do not be discouraged by comments about heights - the terracing is very well done. We stayed in the middle section due to concerns about the steepness (big fear of heights!) and were thrilled with our spot - booked for the top terrace for the Fall after checking it out! Walking the park would be for the uber conditioned camper but it's all about the views, relaxing and breathing the sweet mountain air. Staff could not possibly be nicer! We are hooked! We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Check out Bittersweet Antiques right at the bottom of the hill - great finds and good prices. Also - Ingles grocery store right down the road with excellent food and wine selection. There are very RV friendly gas pumps right in front of the grocery store as well as a Burger King and a Bank of America across the street. We rented an Enterprise car - reserve early!!!!! They book up quickly. They will pick you up at your site and gave us a Mama Gertie's discount.

Stayed on a mountain view sight with beautiful view and weather. Some clouds below us. Very clean and well maintained. Gravel with grass strips in between site. Convenient to interstate and grocery store. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

8 miles to Biltmore House, 2 miles to grocery store. Nice grill and fire pit.

A well-maintained & lovely park, not too far off the interstate. We stayed at the very top level and the views were exceptional. It is a steep drive to the top, but it is escorted and very doable in low gear, even for big rigs. Lower levels have lots of shade but no shade at the top. If you camp at the top level, you may need to drive down to the restrooms & showers, which are sparkling clean. The WIFI worked OK, but no uploading or down loading allowed. Cable, you get a remote from the office & hook up your cable line. The remote works the box, which is outside, but both our TV's had to be on the same station. We loved the top level and got the deck site, with a wood deck, big swing and metal patio set. It was expensive (our rate was Good Sam), but a very special few days. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Down the hill about a mile is a BBQ place called OKIE DOKEY'S that had delicious food at a reasonable price. Ask at the office for directions.

Excellent campground. We read the reviews and mentions of steep roads in the campground. We have a 43ft. motorhome and didn't have any problems. They are steep up to the top sites, but nothing difficult about it. Just drive up, the view is amazing! Super clean and well maintained. When people leave their sites, the hosts rake the gravel smooth so it looks nice for the next person! This has been one of our favorite parks so far! We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Unhook your tow vehicle at the church at the bottom of the road into the campground. It's not far after you get off HWY 40. That makes moving around the campground easier.

We had a lovely time at Mama Gertie's. I don't understand how anyone can rate this campground negatively. Yes, it's terrain is steep. It is on a mountain, though, and if you go for the mountain view sites (highly recommended), you might bite your nails a little on the escorted way up and way down. But a site on the top is simply breathtaking and worth it. As I did not use any facilities, I cannot comment about those. Also, I do not think this is a park geared towards family activities. What you get is a well-maintained CG in a quiet, beautiful setting. Camp hosts were very helpful and pleasant. We were so pleased we booked a return trip already. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

I would add to the other tips that there are a few wineries nearby, or within a day trip's drive. We stumbled upon the Linville Winery and found that to be very enjoyable. Hot Springs, Grandfather Mountain, Blowing Rock are all nice day trips from the camp base.

Wonderful RV park with very friendly staff. We were on the next to the top shelf and next time would try for the top. Great view. Spaces were very nice with good amount of room between rv's and nice landscaping. Good water, sewer and electric. Stayed an extra day we enjoyed it so much. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

Wow! This is a small park outside Asheville, NC and it is beautiful. The road is slightly inclined, but well worth it. The staff was very helpful getting us to our site and helping us park. The office staff was polite, very knowledgeable about the area and just plain great. The camp itself is terraced and beautifully landscaped. It is very evident that someone took a lot of time and thought in the lay out. There are small trees that separate the sites, which are level. Some are gravel and some are concrete. The views from the top sights of the mountains are breathtaking. Restrooms and showers are immaculate as are the laundry and other facilities. This is a beautiful park and we will certainly stay here again. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

Hard not to like this campground. Beautifully maintained and everything works as it should. We stayed in site 32 (the best $55 site) with a beautiful view and plenty of space between sites. As this campground is on the side of a mountain, the roads are steep, but paved roads make the trek uphill manageable. Laundry has ample washers and dryers with change and detergent/softener machines on site. Bathhouse was clean and well maintained. Wifi is powerful. Premium sites ($70) Also have decks, however sites 35, 36, and 37 have better views than sites 33 & 34 (views have electrical wires). We saw wild turkeys every day. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The nearby town of Black Mointain has lots of nice shops and restaraunts without the parking challenges in Asheville. The Asheville Farmer's Market has an incredible array of fresh fruits, vegetables, cheeses, and meats along with lots of crafts and snacks. Worth a trip during your stay.

It is a beautiful campground. From the minute you arrive they help you. The guided us to the site helped us back into spot and asked if we needed anything. The site was clean spacious and well manicured. The next site was just the right distance apart. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Unhook your toad at church parking lot just south of exit 59 off I-40. We didn't know to do this. Big mistake!

Patton Cove Road leads up to campground from the church lot. It's a narrow road with steep drops. Watch out for the blind, sharp turn just before the Mama Gerties' sign. Traffic to the right doesn't have a stop sign. Enter campground.

To register, you can either take steep stairs or go around to the left of the brown building and take the ramp. I took the stairs, not realizing there was a ramp. Quite a workout.

Office staff was very efficient. We had an escort who helped us disconnect the toad and lead us to our site, thankfully. Very hilly, but he knew how to get us into our spot. Everyone gets an escort.

Gravel sites were actually level. Space between sites was good.

This is one of the best maintained parks ever. The staff is always working. I saw one worker actually turn over picnic tables to clean underneath. Laundry with new washers and restrooms were immaculate.

Staff is helpful, too. One rig across from us left the awning out overnight during a hard rain. The awning collapsed, and five of the staff members helped the owner remove the awning which was a total loss. Probably a two hour assist.

We had a site on the lower tier, but the upper sites have amazing views. Very hilly to get to these, but doable for the courageous driver. Not us.

Cable was outstanding with many channels. Wi-Fi was good most days. Verizon coverage on Android was spotty, but OK on iPhone. Fenced dog park.

Mama Gerties is close to all the Asheville and Black Mountain attractions. Blue Ridge Parkway is near and easy to reach. So much to do in the area. Beautiful views as you drive to them.

Great place with wonderful, hard-working staff who take pride in the park. Taking pride seems to be a vanishing attribute in many RV parks we've visited. We appreciate it when we find people who care about the customer. Reasonable prices. Very quiet, peaceful mountain setting. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

You need to make a reservation now to tour the Biltmore Estate. There's a toll free number to do this. Try Phil's Barbeque. It's the next exit east from Mama Gerties. Terrific food. Reasonable prices. Ingles Grocery is at the same exit. Sign up for their free Advantage Card to save on groceries and fuel.

We stayed at this park in the first part of May. It was beautifully cool and very nicely landscaped, with level graveled pads. Our site was amazingly private.

A note, the entry street is through a residential neighborhood and quite steep/narrow. Just when you think you might be lost, the sign for the campground appears.

It's a mountainous campground, so the internal roads (paved) are quite steep, but after check-in, one of the staff cheerfully guides new arrivals in and helps direct the back-in process very efficiently.

We were very, very pleased with everything there and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone or to go back for a repeat visit. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Do go to Biltmore Estate. We bought the two-day tickets right from the campground and couldn't have been more pleased with how things turned out for us. You'll need to call ahead for a time to tour the house. Be prepared for crowds inside. The gardens and grounds tour wasn't nearly as busy/crowded. Make sure to take the time for the free wine tasting at the winery.

Great park and great people. Roads a tad steep but go slowly and take your time. You are guided to your site and welcomed warmly. The grounds are kept spotless by a nice young man. Good fenced dog run and doggie bag stations through tout the park. We will be back in the future. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here for one night on our way to Myrtle Beach, and then again for a night on our return home.

The place is beautiful, wooded, and next to (built into) a mountain. A very peaceful setting with a little creek running through it.

On our first night, we were down on the lowest level, and while the site was fine, we could not get a satellite signal for our dish. But, not to worry, they have cable and a lot of channels compared to a lot of other campgrounds.

On our return trip we stayed up on the middle level, and had no problem getting a satellite signal for DirecTv. That site overlooks the lower level and the huge dog park area, and you can look up (way up) to the upper level sites.

I have heard that the upper level sites are amazing, but I cannot imagine driving our 32' Class C up there! We watched a guy try and drive his rig up there (the kind that has a front that looks like a semi truck) and it took him several times to get to the top.

This is a beautiful campground ... so peaceful ! We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

Beautiful park. The roads are very steep, but don't let it scare you away. We had a lovely site with a concrete pad, picnic table and a lawn tucked among the trees. The staff was very friendly and the young man that escorted us to our site helped me with backing in as we are not very experienced (note: his instructions are 1000% better than those my husband gives!). The location is convenient to all that Asheville has to offer and an easy day trip to Great Smoky Mountain National Park. They are very dog friendly. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The Biltmore Estate is close by. In downtown Asheville we parked in one of the parking structures and they didn't charge us. Farm Burger downtown had a completely unique take on burgers that were excellent. There is a farmer's market that is very nice. Phil's BBQ a few miles up the road from the park was really good.
