Stayed 3 days. Excellent staff, friendly and informative. After checking in one of the staff escorted us to our site and helped us back in. Check out sites up above the lower sites with views. Cable TV 60 channels, HD worked very good. Site clean, Had option of two sewer connections, ( not sure if that holds true at every site). Water, electric 50/30, Good. Very clean showers, Laundry room very clean, we washed clothes there. Probably in the top 2 campsites we've stayed at! Plan on going back again. Right off 40, Easy on/off to sites in and around Ashville. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This is a very nice park. We were only there for one night on our way north but wish we could have stayed longer. Check in was quick and easy, staff friendly and we were escorted to our site. You are in the mountains so the interior roads are a bit steep but not a problem. We were in the lower section so our pull-thru site was terraced into the slope. The site we had was nicely graveled and did not require leveling. Plenty of space and lots of trees and native flora. There was a table, fire ring and the utilities and septic were well placed and no issues with electric. Cell phone and wifi worked well. The restrooms and showers are the cleanest we have encountered. The showers are separate little rooms across the hall from the restrooms. Our rate was with Good Sam discount. We would most definitely stay here again if in the area. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Based on reviews here along with online videos, we chose Mama Gerties. We had high expectations and we certainly were not disappointed. Everything was perfect. We liked it so much we are headed back for a couple nights again next week. Since they are very busy this time of year, all we could get was site #20 which is a back in for our 24 foot class C. We knew going in it had electric and water but no sewer. Nice wide and shaded lot with a wonderful creek at the rear. Like the entire park, it was spotless. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

Day 28, 2,188 Miles. Today Misty and I are at Mama Gertie's Hidaway in Swannanoa, North Carolina - just east of Asheville. Rate is $53.10/night for a "Mountain View Site" with a Veteran/Military discount (or Good Sam). My site is pretty nice, gravel and level with a picnic table, fire pit and grass "yard." Easily long enough for my 39'6" and toad. 50-amp with well laid out hook-ups. There are a few "Deck View" sites which look really nice. The park is more or less carved from the side of the mountain. The roads are a mix of blacktop and gravel and at first may look a little daunting, but nothing to worry about. The park, laundry, bathrooms, etc. are extremely well-kept and clean. There is a decent "camp store" and exercise room. It is a "closed" park with a key-pad gate. WIFI is the best I've experienced at a park for some time and the cable is good with 62 channels (did not try OTA). My Verizon signal is strong as well. I am using my Dish but on the lower sites, satellite would be difficult, even with a tail-gater type satilitte due to trees. If you want a good pizza and wings, I highly recommend Pepperoni's Gourmet Pizza just down the road n Black Mountain (they deliver). I had the "kitchen sink" pizza and lemon pepper wings - best wings in my recent memory and the pizza was sooo good! I really like the park and being able to look out towards the mountains of Pisgah National Forest - amazing. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

Located about a mile off I-40. Narrow roads to RV park. Office on hill, therefore we unhooked before arriving. Check in easy, staff very friendly and helpful. Our site was at top of park on side of mountain. It's a steep climb to the top, however, our 40 ft had no issues. We were escorted, which made the climb easier to navigate. Our site was gravel, pull thru, full hook up, close to level with deck, swing & fire ring. Site was long enough to fit Rig and tow. We were in an open area, although surrounded by trees, we were able to get satellite. The bottom half park has mature trees at the sites. They have cable too. WiFi worked great. One of the best maintained park we have ever stayed at! Office with small store, laundry room and exercise room located in front of park. There are bathrooms & laundry room located at top of park too. Used the laundry room, wash - $2.00, dry - $1.25. Machines worked well. There is a gate at front of park, and you are given a code. Only one dumpster located at front by office. Small dog areas, but plenty of internal roads to walk dogs. The park was full when we stayed there, but very quiet. We didn't run AC because it was cool at night, and there was no outside noise. This is a beautiful RV park and we will be back again! We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome. The facility is well cared for and highly maintained. Interior roads are paved and sites are gravel and pretty level. This campground has been carved into the side of a mountain so a lot of the lower sites where I stayed have been terraced into the hillside. While you are close to the next site there is good separation with the terracing and plantings. Out site had mountain laurel that was at least 8 feet tall.

All the staff I interacted with were very nice helpful folks. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We stopped to tour the Biltmore Estate but changed our mind cause I'm cheap. I was unwilling to spend $146 to gain entry. I've heard that it is quite a work of art though.

Last time we were at Mama Gerties was 2008 and wanted to come back to see the new upper sites. Mama Gerties is still a great campground that is very neat and well kept. The lower and middle sites are shaded and and relatively private. But since we came back to try out the upper sites, we stayed up there this time (we were in site 29) We liked these sites very much as they have great views- views you wouldn't get at many other campgrounds. And all of the sites have their pluses and minuses. Sites 27-32 have nice views without the premium pricing, but are pretty close together. Sites 33-37 have the best views of them all and are the nicest sites in the park...although they are preminum priced. Sites 38/39 are off to themselves, but their awnings do not face the nice view - something to know. Sites 40-45 have decent views, but not as good as 33-37 since there are sites in front of them. One more note on the high sites, the drive up and back down is tricky for big rigs. Ours is 44 ft and although we did not have any issues, it was a bit nerve wracking but doable if you go slow. Again, the campground and the grounds are immaculate and the staff is very helpful and friendly and we would definitely come again. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

This park is very unique. It was carved out of a mountainside. The lower sites are tiered and very level. As you get higher there are sites for larger rigs and the top of the park have the beautiful views. Showers are private with doors and seats. Impeccably clean. Mature growths of trees and shrubs give the park the look of a cool quiet woods. Some sites are very shady and some in the sun. Laundry is also very clean and they have a coin machine as well. Staff could not be friendlier and you are lead to your site. Although very steep, it is possible to do with all size rigs. Cabins looked very nice in wooded section as well as quiet tent sites. Very well done campground. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Mama Gertie's is a fantastic campground. It is in a fairly convenient location just off I-40 near Asheville and you can easily get to a huge number of attractions in less than an hour. (Asheville is less than 15 minutes.) It is built on a sloping mountainside property and at the very top there are premium sites with decks and amazing views. The regular sites lack the views but the CG itself is immaculate, attractive, and perfectly maintained. Even the washing machines in the laundry are new. The sites are level gravel and all the interior roads are paved. There are full hook-up sites and some E/W only. There are tent sites and cabins in their own little area and these do not seem to be as popular as the main CG. This is not a huge CG but there are enough different areas to be ok for walking dogs (and of course there are thousands of parks and trails nearby). Mama Gerties is not the kind of CG where there are a lot of kids - instead we saw a lot of older people with pets and upscale motorhomes. The landscaping is exceptional - lots of trees and birds and two different streams running through the property. Very enjoyable stay! We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

Less than 5 minutes away (in Swannona) is an excellent restaurant/bar called Native with a creative menu. There are also excellent dining options in Black Mountain which is slightly closer than Asheville and much easier to park.

We just returned from a weekend at Mama Gertie's. After reading the reviews and knowing a couple that stays there frequently, we were excited to finally get a reservation. Please note the layout of this campground is tiered, so there is a lower, middle, and top section. We booked the very top of the hill on site 37 with a wooden deck and patio furniture. The site was level from side to side and the views were very good. Our site was clean and spacious, owners working diligently to clean out fire pits and any wood scraps left as soon as other guests left. The bath house at the top is very clean, and appears to be fairly new. This is a mountain campground, so be aware it is steep to get to the sites. We have a 37 foot Travel Trailer pulled with a long wheelbase 4 door pickup, and it was very tight in some spots to get to the top. All sites at the top are gravel and appear to be newer than sites near the lower tier. The lower tier has shade, the upper tier does not. Our nightly rate was $77, but apparently I didn't read closely enough, that rate is for two guests only if your children are 13 or older there is a $5 per child per night fee. So our cost with two teenagers was $87. We did receive a Good Sam discount which lessened the sting a little, but these prices are approaching what it costs for us to camp at Disney. We will return, as the group we were with all agreed it would be great in the late summer or early fall when all the trees are in full foliage and maybe some color deeper into the fall. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We had a great stay at Mama Gertie's Campground! It is a beautiful campground on a mountain side. The upper sites have amazing views! The lower sites (where we stayed) are nicely terraced between sites, you have good privacy. The staff was friendly and the campground was very clean. We had absolutely no issues and will definitely be back.

Our site (#14) was adequate, but the patio area was a bit tight. Next time we would definitely get a mountain top site, maybe even the one with the deck. The views are amazing. We have a 30' motorhome and tow-dolly. We had enough space to disconnect the tow dolly and put it off to the side, and pull the car in behind my rig. The site was just big enough but not spacious.

One of the best features of this campground is the location. It is only about 2 miles from I-40. Right at that exit, there is a grocery store, shopping center and gas stations. It is also close to downtown Asheville, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and only 5 miles to Black Mountain. We enjoyed walking round Black Mountain, a quaint little town with lots of shopping. Also, don't miss a visit to nearby Montreat college... beautiful location. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.
