Beautiful well kept park with large level spaces. We didn't need any blocks to level the wheels. The hill to the mountain view spots is very steep but easily negotiated by large rigs. They will escort you to your space. Bath rooms and laundry are spotless. Very secure, every one gets their own gate combo. Pet friendly. Our space had two sewer dumps, a huge grassy area in front and lots of room for our tow vehicle. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This was a really a beautiful park. The people were great. We used the laundry, and were pleasantly surprised that it was brand new equipment. There is nothing bad that I can think of to say about this place except for the price. But sometimes you get what you pay for, and this place is great. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

This is one exceptional campground. This facility is located on the side of a mountain and the top of the same mountain. It is a little intimidating going up and coming down. We were guided up by a staff member in a golf cart to our site. Our site was on the top of the mountain and the view was spectacular. The site was gravel and very level. WiFi and cable was offered and both worked very well. The registration office is also the "General Store". Not much in there to buy. They do sell ice. We are constantly looking at the pictures of beautiful mountain views and magnificent sunsets. If you are in the area make it a point to stop over at this campground. You won't be sorry. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We just recently camped at Mama Gertie's for four nights and were pleasantly surprised with the campground from top to bottom (literally!). The owners have created a terrific place to stay: clean, polite and impeccably maintained.

We tend to camp at state parks or other public campgrounds that afford more space and privacy, but Mama Gertie's gave us all that and more. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Tent Trailer.

This is certainly one of the nicest private campgrounds that we've stayed at so far. The staff were quite friendly. The campground is very well maintained. Very clean restrooms and showers. Nice amenities, the wifi signal was pretty decent at our site. It is built into a hill so there are different levels. The very top level has pretty amazing views. It is hard to book one of those. Very close access to I40, grocery store, gas and Asheville. We were on a concrete pad but most sites appeared to be gravel. We will certainly be back. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This is a beautiful and well run rv park. Even though the park is in a very hilly region, the sites are level. Everything is clean and well maintained. Good cable reception and wi-fi. The restrooms and showers are all very clean. Some sites are up at the top of the hill and have fantastic views. It is very convenient to Asheville but in a quiet setting. Nice to come back to after a day of sightseeing. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

We stayed here for 9 nights to attend a conference at the Montreat Conference Center about 8 miles away and to do some Asheville exploring. This campground is a gem. At first we were taken aback by the hills, but after getting situated in our level, long, wide gravel 50 amp spot, we fell for the place. Some 30 amp spots down the hill are smaller. Each spot has a table and fire ring and grassy area. There are views galore from some locations. The place was spotless. The cabins and tent area looked very inviting as a small stream ran past many sites. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Travel Trailer.

The very nice and fun gal that checked us in answered all our questions and then we were escorted to our site. The laundry, bathrooms and showers are immaculate. The park is situated on a hill, so there are different levels for each site. If you take it slow any size rig can make it just fine. The gate adds another level of security. Very quiet and a stream is close by to listen too. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This is a lovely park that has tiered levels to stay. We stayed at the top level and the only negative thing I could say is it's a little scary making some of the turns to get to the top, but once you are there the views are spectacular. The site was level and wide enough for us to park the tow car beside the coach. The ground are well maintained and the restrooms are modern and very clean. Staff was super friendly and even hand delivered several packages to us. We stayed here in a 40 foot MH and would definitely return. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

Road into campground is 18 to 20% grade. Difficult for towing a vehicle. Suggest you unhitch before you get off the freeway or crossover to do it first. People were rude about it when we were surprised. Difficult to unhitch the jeep. Area in front of office for a check in is on a steep incline not easy to unhitch there either Even though they believe it is. Wi-Fi is good, worked all the time but not secure. Spaces while they may be level once you get into them are extremely difficult to enter and leave with the severe drop off on the hill. We scraped our front bumper and our back bumper and hitch while trying to get in and out of the spaces. Did not check mountain top ones but not sure how you get up there without a tow truck. Is convenient to Asheville and nearby sites if traveling during tornado season because the mountains block them. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Lots of art galleries and studios to visit. Biltmore was very expensive so we did not. up to you. Lots of nice antique stores with some very reasonable prices. Blue Ridge Parkway nearby also a great drive and not too far from the smoky mountains. We would come back to the area but not to this campground.

Overall Rating:

We've loved this campground since our first stay. It's not a huge place and maneuvering can be somewhat intimidating due to the hills and curves, but the folks there will help you get to your site in one piece and with minimal stress. Once you're set up, you'll be rewarded with a heaping helping of peace and quiet. Road noise here is nearly non-existent. The grounds are well kept and clean and the gate at the entrance helps one feel a bit more secure in the evenings. Only a few of the sites are paved, so if that's your preferred landing pad, call ahead to ask. The sites at the top of the hill provide extraordinary views but are, unfortunately, closed during the winter (can't blame them - would hate to get stuck up there in the snow!). There are a pair of pinball machines at the main building that we normally love to dump quarters into. They too, however, are not available during the winter months. The pinball preservationist in me worries about their long-term health... There's also a horseshoe pitch that we didn't take advantage of and, I believe but cannot confirm, there's also a pool table in the main building. Our site came equipped with a sturdy picnic table and a really neat fire pit. Firewood is available at the office for $5 per generous bundle. If you happen to forget to pick up your wood prior to the office closing, the Ingles supermarket in town usually has some in the produce section. We had no problem with satellite service (the one owned by the phone company) or Verizon cell/data service. They do offer free wi-fi, which seemed passable, as well as digital cable, which we didn't use. As others have said, there is a church with a large parking lot that's normally empty and makes a great spot to disconnect your toad, should you have one. You could disconnect in the reception area of the campground but it would be tight and could slow others down. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

While here, check out Okie Dokees Smokehouse for great BBQ (try the jalapeno hushpuppies!). Head out of the campground, go straight over I-40 and take a right at the three-way intersection. If you instead turn left, you'll find an Ingles supermarket, a post office and an Ace Hardware in a nearby shopping center. Black Mountain is a few miles east and has more dining choices and some neat local shops.

We visited Ashville to tour the Biltmore Estate during Christmas. Outstanding. And Mama Gertie's was a great place to stay - just about 10 minutes away but much nicer than the closer RV parks.

It is on a hill and it can look a little imposing when you first arrive. But the staff is so helpful and friendly and will help you get into your site. The roads are plenty wide and recently repaved. Turns require some care but are good for even the largest rigs.

Views are amazing especially from the upper parts of the campground. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
