Well maintained and clean. Sites were level. Showers and restrooms were impeccable. Built on the side of a mountain. You will always be walking up a hill. Site spacing is pretty tight, but the hillside construction kind of mitigates the “look at the side of your neighbor’s coach’s vibe. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

This is our favorite campground. We love the top tier, deck sites at the top of a steep but doable drive. Everything is super clean & sites are policed as soon as a camper pulls out. Great hookups, cable & WIFI. We had a truck problem & they worked very hard to accommodate us while we were waiting for the repair completion. Great location near the Blue Ridge Parkway & Asheville, but you feel very much apart from the activity. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a grocery store, gas station, car wash & post office in a small shopping center at the bottom of the hill. The hop-on, hop-off tour in Asheville was informative & parking was free.

Tips for other Campers:

This place is built on side of Mountain. We disconnected before pulling in and reconnected when we left at area near interstate. The spots at mountaintop are great but steep climb. You walk up and down everywhere. Dog walking areas are few but useable. But again uphill one way or the other. For sure gets step credits. Good place to visit the area though and there are some stores close by.

I can't say enough about this CG. The roads are very steep, so take a deep breath and step on the gas... There are 3 levels, we're on the second, site 25. Sites were close, but seemed private with cedar trees between sites. Gravel sites with a little grass, fire ring and picnic tables and some small trees at rear. The laundry facility was immaculate, you could have eaten off the floors, not a speck of dust! You will need to have a car here, as walking is extremely hard with steep inclines. The 3rd level was unbelievable with the views! You need to reserve 1 year in advance for 3rd level and in season. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

Very clean campground. We were in site 45 which was at the beginning of the loop. Absolutely no privacy. The site was level, but we paid for a view which was blocked by trees. We have a large motor home and the turns were very tight when leaving the campground. We probably would come back again but definitely a different site. Probably 35 or 36...more money (about $18) but gorgeous views and much more private. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

Phenomenal views on the upper sites with a deck and swing. The only negative I have for this campground is that the water was turned off from late morning to late afternoon, and no one from the staff informed us. That could have had disastrous consequences if the ice maker, washing machine or dishwasher was in use at the time. I doubt the management would be agreeable to paying for repair or replacement. Great property on the side of a hill/mountain. Pretty steep interior asphalt roads with terraced nice level gravel sites. The people running the park are nice and do an excellent job. They escort all new arrivals to their site and are always busy cleaning. The upper level is cleared and has great views of the nearby mountains, lower level sites are more shaded. Great property! Overall Rating:

This is an excellent, clean RV park which is easily accessed off I-40. Check-in was efficient and friendly. There are 3 tiers with the top tier having awesome mountain views everywhere you look. However, there is no shade, so that is a trade off, but there was direct sun for a just a few hours each day, so wasn't bad at all. The lowest tier has shade at most sites with the middle tier having limited shade. The drive to the top tier was not bad and totally doable. We were quite surprised by some of the negative comments we've read regarding the drive to the top. We found it to be no big deal. You are escorted to your site. The WiFi was excellent, the cable had plenty of channels, and we had good Verizon cell service. Our FHU, pull-thru site was gravel and was level. Our site was comfortably spaced from the neighboring site. There is an Ingles grocery, CVS Pharmacy, post office, and a few restaurants an easy drive right up the road. We would definitely stay here again when in the area. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

We camped on the top tier and the view is beautiful. It is a steep incline to the top, but we had no problems. They provide an escort. It was a little dusty at the time of our visit. We will camp here again. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

Stayed 3 days. Excellent staff, friendly and informative. After checking in one of the staff escorted us to our site and helped us back in. Check out sites up above the lower sites with views. Cable TV 60 channels, HD worked very good. Site clean, Had option of two sewer connections, ( not sure if that holds true at every site). Water, electric 50/30, Good. Very clean showers, Laundry room very clean, we washed clothes there. Probably in the top 2 campsites we've stayed at! Plan on going back again. Right off 40, Easy on/off to sites in and around Ashville. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This is a very nice park. We were only there for one night on our way north but wish we could have stayed longer. Check in was quick and easy, staff friendly and we were escorted to our site. You are in the mountains so the interior roads are a bit steep but not a problem. We were in the lower section so our pull-thru site was terraced into the slope. The site we had was nicely graveled and did not require leveling. Plenty of space and lots of trees and native flora. There was a table, fire ring and the utilities and septic were well placed and no issues with electric. Cell phone and wifi worked well. The restrooms and showers are the cleanest we have encountered. The showers are separate little rooms across the hall from the restrooms. Our rate was with Good Sam discount. We would most definitely stay here again if in the area. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Based on reviews here along with online videos, we chose Mama Gerties. We had high expectations and we certainly were not disappointed. Everything was perfect. We liked it so much we are headed back for a couple nights again next week. Since they are very busy this time of year, all we could get was site #20 which is a back in for our 24 foot class C. We knew going in it had electric and water but no sewer. Nice wide and shaded lot with a wonderful creek at the rear. Like the entire park, it was spotless. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

Day 28, 2,188 Miles. Today Misty and I are at Mama Gertie's Hidaway in Swannanoa, North Carolina - just east of Asheville. Rate is $53.10/night for a "Mountain View Site" with a Veteran/Military discount (or Good Sam). My site is pretty nice, gravel and level with a picnic table, fire pit and grass "yard." Easily long enough for my 39'6" and toad. 50-amp with well laid out hook-ups. There are a few "Deck View" sites which look really nice. The park is more or less carved from the side of the mountain. The roads are a mix of blacktop and gravel and at first may look a little daunting, but nothing to worry about. The park, laundry, bathrooms, etc. are extremely well-kept and clean. There is a decent "camp store" and exercise room. It is a "closed" park with a key-pad gate. WIFI is the best I've experienced at a park for some time and the cable is good with 62 channels (did not try OTA). My Verizon signal is strong as well. I am using my Dish but on the lower sites, satellite would be difficult, even with a tail-gater type satilitte due to trees. If you want a good pizza and wings, I highly recommend Pepperoni's Gourmet Pizza just down the road n Black Mountain (they deliver). I had the "kitchen sink" pizza and lemon pepper wings - best wings in my recent memory and the pizza was sooo good! I really like the park and being able to look out towards the mountains of Pisgah National Forest - amazing. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

Located about a mile off I-40. Narrow roads to RV park. Office on hill, therefore we unhooked before arriving. Check in easy, staff very friendly and helpful. Our site was at top of park on side of mountain. It's a steep climb to the top, however, our 40 ft had no issues. We were escorted, which made the climb easier to navigate. Our site was gravel, pull thru, full hook up, close to level with deck, swing & fire ring. Site was long enough to fit Rig and tow. We were in an open area, although surrounded by trees, we were able to get satellite. The bottom half park has mature trees at the sites. They have cable too. WiFi worked great. One of the best maintained park we have ever stayed at! Office with small store, laundry room and exercise room located in front of park. There are bathrooms & laundry room located at top of park too. Used the laundry room, wash - $2.00, dry - $1.25. Machines worked well. There is a gate at front of park, and you are given a code. Only one dumpster located at front by office. Small dog areas, but plenty of internal roads to walk dogs. The park was full when we stayed there, but very quiet. We didn't run AC because it was cool at night, and there was no outside noise. This is a beautiful RV park and we will be back again! We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome. The facility is well cared for and highly maintained. Interior roads are paved and sites are gravel and pretty level. This campground has been carved into the side of a mountain so a lot of the lower sites where I stayed have been terraced into the hillside. While you are close to the next site there is good separation with the terracing and plantings. Out site had mountain laurel that was at least 8 feet tall.

All the staff I interacted with were very nice helpful folks. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We stopped to tour the Biltmore Estate but changed our mind cause I'm cheap. I was unwilling to spend $146 to gain entry. I've heard that it is quite a work of art though.
