We just returned from a weekend at Mama Gertie's. After reading the reviews and knowing a couple that stays there frequently, we were excited to finally get a reservation. Please note the layout of this campground is tiered, so there is a lower, middle, and top section. We booked the very top of the hill on site 37 with a wooden deck and patio furniture. The site was level from side to side and the views were very good. Our site was clean and spacious, owners working diligently to clean out fire pits and any wood scraps left as soon as other guests left. The bath house at the top is very clean, and appears to be fairly new. This is a mountain campground, so be aware it is steep to get to the sites. We have a 37 foot Travel Trailer pulled with a long wheelbase 4 door pickup, and it was very tight in some spots to get to the top. All sites at the top are gravel and appear to be newer than sites near the lower tier. The lower tier has shade, the upper tier does not. Our nightly rate was $77, but apparently I didn't read closely enough, that rate is for two guests only if your children are 13 or older there is a $5 per child per night fee. So our cost with two teenagers was $87. We did receive a Good Sam discount which lessened the sting a little, but these prices are approaching what it costs for us to camp at Disney. We will return, as the group we were with all agreed it would be great in the late summer or early fall when all the trees are in full foliage and maybe some color deeper into the fall. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Travel Trailer.

I am not sure why this campground gets such great reviews. The sites are on a STEEP slope. Just getting into a site requires extreme measures. I was not impressed when I stopped in to check out this campground. We went elsewhere. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We had a great stay at Mama Gertie's Campground! It is a beautiful campground on a mountain side. The upper sites have amazing views! The lower sites (where we stayed) are nicely terraced between sites, you have good privacy. The staff was friendly and the campground was very clean. We had absolutely no issues and will definitely be back.

Our site (#14) was adequate, but the patio area was a bit tight. Next time we would definitely get a mountain top site, maybe even the one with the deck. The views are amazing. We have a 30' motorhome and tow-dolly. We had enough space to disconnect the tow dolly and put it off to the side, and pull the car in behind my rig. The site was just big enough but not spacious.

One of the best features of this campground is the location. It is only about 2 miles from I-40. Right at that exit, there is a grocery store, shopping center and gas stations. It is also close to downtown Asheville, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and only 5 miles to Black Mountain. We enjoyed walking round Black Mountain, a quaint little town with lots of shopping. Also, don't miss a visit to nearby Montreat college... beautiful location. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

By far the nicest RV park we've found. Our 25ft Airstream was comfortable in site 16. The site are gravel and very level. Upon entrance we were met by a friendly, competent staff who clearly take pride in this property. The staff escorts you to your site which expedites the check-in process. We noticed the cleanliness all around, from the dog park, trash collection, check-in area, and more. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Out new FAVORITE campground. Security gate, best WiFi ever, full services, roomy and FLAT gravel sites, and friendly staff ... all near the top of a mountain with seriously breath-taking views. The winding, steep-grade road up to the sites may be challenging for a new driver, but navigating IS do-able. All this beauty is only about 15 miles from Asheville with great restaurants, shopping, street entertainers, farmers market and Friday night drumming circles. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

Very clean facilities, some of the best we've seen. The only negative is the roads within the campground are very very steep and if driving up and down narrow mountain roads bothers you, this is not the park for you. Very nice views from the top of the mountain. We have big rig and had no troubles but it can be scary. Friendly helpful staff took us to our site. Good selection of stores and places to eat within 8 miles. We disconnected because I did not the extra weight when going down the mountain. Went to ACE hardware, about 1.5 miles away, to reconnect. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

This mountain-setting campground is one of our favorites now! We were on the very top level, but not at one of the patio sites. The view was beautiful. Hookups were excellent. Cable and the WIFI worked very well. Restrooms were spotless as was the laundry area. The whole campground has the feel of meticulous care. The ride to the top is very steep, but you have a guide to your campsite. We love that! This is an excellent location to visit the Asheville and Black Mountain areas. This campground is beautiful! We loved it here! We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Located about a mile off I-40. Narrow roads to RV park. Office on hill, won't be able to unhook. Check in easy, staff very friendly and helpful. Our site was at top of park on side of mountain. It's a steep climb to the top, however, our 40 ft plus tow had no issues. We were escorted, which made the climb easier to navigate. Our site was gravel, pull thru, full hook up, close to level with picnic table & fire ring. Site was long enough to fit Rig and tow.

We were in an open area, although surrounded by trees, we were able to get satellite. They have cable too. WiFi worked great. Unfortunately, we were here when Hurricane Irma decided to come thru, but we still had a great view.

Best maintained park we have ever stayed at! Office with small store, laundry room and exercise room located in front of park. There are bathrooms & laundry room located at top of park too. There is a gate at front of park, and you are given a code. Only one dumpster located at front by office. Small dog areas, some grass but didn't walk dogs because of storm, so there could be additional areas around park. This is a beautiful park and we will be back again! We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Motorhome.

Beautiful well kept park with large level spaces. We didn't need any blocks to level the wheels. The hill to the mountain view spots is very steep but easily negotiated by large rigs. They will escort you to your space. Bath rooms and laundry are spotless. Very secure, every one gets their own gate combo. Pet friendly. Our space had two sewer dumps, a huge grassy area in front and lots of room for our tow vehicle. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This was a really a beautiful park. The people were great. We used the laundry, and were pleasantly surprised that it was brand new equipment. There is nothing bad that I can think of to say about this place except for the price. But sometimes you get what you pay for, and this place is great. Read the reviews & decided to try this CG. Ended up with a spot on top & the view was great. It's a good brake test getting in and out as it's really steep, but worth the trip if you get a spot on top. We were just there overnight on trip to AZ. The showers & bathrooms were spotless. I would recommend this CG. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is one exceptional campground. This facility is located on the side of a mountain and the top of the same mountain. It is a little intimidating going up and coming down. We were guided up by a staff member in a golf cart to our site. Our site was on the top of the mountain and the view was spectacular. The site was gravel and very level. WiFi and cable was offered and both worked very well. The registration office is also the "General Store". Not much in there to buy. They do sell ice. We are constantly looking at the pictures of beautiful mountain views and magnificent sunsets. If you are in the area make it a point to stop over at this campground. You won't be sorry. We just recently camped at Mama Gertie's for four nights and were pleasantly surprised with the campground from top to bottom (literally!). The owners have created a terrific place to stay: clean, polite and impeccably maintained.

We tend to camp at state parks or other public campgrounds that afford more space and privacy, but Mama Gertie's gave us all that and more. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Tent Trailer.

This is certainly one of the nicest private campgrounds that we've stayed at so far. The staff were quite friendly. The campground is very well maintained. Very clean restrooms and showers. Nice amenities, the wifi signal was pretty decent at our site. It is built into a hill so there are different levels. The very top level has pretty amazing views. It is hard to book one of those. Very close access to I40, grocery store, gas and Asheville. We were on a concrete pad but most sites appeared to be gravel. We will certainly be back. This is a beautiful and well run rv park. Even though the park is in a very hilly region, the sites are level. Everything is clean and well maintained. Good cable reception and wi-fi. The restrooms and showers are all very clean. Some sites are up at the top of the hill and have fantastic views. It is very convenient to Asheville but in a quiet setting.
