We had 3 rigs traveling together, and were glad we actually got sites together. The park is much smaller than the two down the road, but we were glad for the shelter of the trees that lined the park when the winds were blowing at 40 MPH one night. Bathrooms were bare bones with no outlets, towels, or hand soap. Sites were nicely spaced, with concrete pads. Other local area campers were very friendly. Lots of fishermen staying here. We would recommend this park. We camped at Ocean Waves Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a very nice RV park, which is very family-friendly! Back-in spaces only, so big rigs have to work at getting into space. Looked like the only campground on Hatteras Island which had shaded spaces. Pool was very nice! Easy walk across dune to beach. We camped at Ocean Waves Campground in a Motorhome.

The sites were concrete but some were small for big rigs. The staff needed a little more positive attitude. All sites are back in. We camped at Ocean Waves Campground in a Motorhome.

This was the first time staying at Ocean Waves Campground and we enjoyed it very much. The sites are cement pads and worked well for our 32' 5th Wheel. As you would expect the sites are close together, but there was ample room to park the truck in front of the 5th Wheel without any crazy maneuvering. We had full hookup and everything worked well. The bathrooms must have been cleaned numerous times a day because with the beach and sand near by you would think they would get nasty, but they were clean every time I visited. The beach is just a sand dune hop away. The beach is large and the ocean is beautiful - what a dream! We enjoyed a beach fire a couple times during our stay - loved it (you can get the free permit at the campground office). The camp office / store has a small/good selection of last minute things. They also have a selection of rental movies- although we never got one. We wanted to stay an extra 4 nights and we found that the staff was very helpful with this. In the end we only got 2 nights due to a full campground. We look forward to returning!! We camped at Ocean Waves Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

There is significant bridge construction on the 12 South of the 64. Be prepared for lengthy delays. Off season special buy six nights and get 7th night free. Total was $312 plus 6% tax or $47.25/night avg rate. Due to mechanical issues, we could only stay 5 nights. They were not obligated and did not issue a refund even though we referred a customer who stayed for one month. Reservation process was a bit of drama. We reserved during the winter when the CG is closed. We had to complete a form from their website and snail mail it after January 1st. The website explicitly says if you mail it before January 1st, they will ignore it. Upon arrival, check-in was courteous and efficient. We were given a choice of campsites which was nice. The sites can be tight to get into but it shouldn't take you 30 minutes to maneuver into. A neighbor might need to move a vehicle but everyone is very friendly. All hook-up's worked well. CG wifi was hit or miss. We had good Verizon cell, Sprint Mifi and DirecTV signals. The bath houses each have a very (very, very) bright exterior light. This disrupts star gazing and (in my opinion) it would be awful if one was shining in your window. I suggest they swap these bright lights for low amber-tone lights. The laundry room did not have enough machines for the park so it was awkward doing your laundry with others watching and waiting for you to finish. The office has an extensive DVD ($1/night rental fee) and book library. The beach is easy to access. However, the sand has tons (tons and tons) of broken shells. If you're barefoot, be careful not to cut your feet. There is always wind - sometimes a little and often times a lot. There's a reason the kite surfers love OBX. Ocean Waves is a good value for the location. If I returned to the area, I would certainly consider staying again. Overall, for me personally, OBX was nice to visit but I'm not interested to return. I didn't think it was that special or the beach was that pretty. We camped at Ocean Waves Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Orange Blossom is a MUST - famous for their Apply Ugly but the Cinnamon Roll is to die for. Check their hours before you go. Stop at Cape Hatteras Lighthouse to learn about the amazing engineering how it was moved completely intact. It's free to visit but a fee to climb it. Wright Bros Natl Monument is underwhelming but compulsory when in OBX. Take your Natl Park Pass. Try the calamari appetizer at Outer Banks Brewing.

Taking the area into consideration this is the best place to camp. Close to the beach in the upper area and clean and ample restrooms. Nice staff. Sites level and hook ups good. Sites very tight for big rigs and parking the truck was tricky. As long as everyone obeyed the rules and parked off of the already narrow road all was fine. We camped at Ocean Waves Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Cozy little campsite located on the ocean in the Outer Banks. Friendly staff, excellent location, reasonably priced. The downside? My 52' rig (truck + fiver) was crammed into the smallest campsite imaginable. It was nearly impossible to get the rig situated, took over 30 minutes of back and forth jockeying and honestly was a joke. This place would easily be a 10 if the sites were roomier, especially in light of their beautiful beach. Unfortunately, I won't be back because of the tight site. We camped at Ocean Waves Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Moved to this campground after two nights at Camp Hatteras and due to the cost of Camp Hatteras. Was well worth-while. Price was better and park had some protection from the wind. Back-in sites are a bit difficult but big rigs didn't seemed to have many problems. Good store, cheap laundry and lots of videos to rent. Not as big as the more expensive parks but didn't matter since all have the same access to the beach. Would have stayed longer but needed to head for the mountains. We camped at Ocean Waves Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Sites are close together but adequate. The campground is smaller than the others in the area, and very friendly. We rode our bikes through the other two parks close by and liked Ocean Waves the best of the three, and it was the least expensive. The beach is beautiful! Cable is extra and the free wifi is so slow that it's almost unusable. We camped at Ocean Waves Campground in a Motorhome.

Very nice park, helpful staff, clean facilities, spacious sites. There are rules that are posted by the staff that may seem lengthy, but this is why this is a very nice park at a very reasonable rate for peak season. We camped at Ocean Waves Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Buy your beer, groceries and gas before you leave the mainland. Campground has ice and necessities at the office store. There is a dollar general just south of the campground. Watermans bar and grill also a "must try."

Very friendly and accommodating staff. Our spot was dry even with 17" of rain over the last two weeks. Other sites didn't fare as well but drained quickly. Our site was very close to the ocean, just over the dunes. Cable and Wi-Fi were excellent. We will definitely will stay here again. We camped at Ocean Waves Campground in a Motorhome.

What a lovely family run park. Very clean, level concrete pads, excellent WiFi and cable TV ($3/night extra), small laundry room but only $1. The only problem was heavy rain (tropical storm) and lots of standing water, however, the office worked hard to put you in as dry as possible sites. Of course, being just over 1 sand dune to the beach is the best "amenity". Sites length and width of drive a little small for today's larger RVs, but they have maximized the best they can. We camped at Ocean Waves Campground in a Motorhome.
