We stayed 7 days and had a wonderful time. We were assigned site #58 which has full hookups and a level concrete pad with a patch of grass. The only bad thing about the park is it can be a tight squeeze with longer rigs with all the trucks parked at the end of their sites. The sites can accommodate motorhomes and 5th wheels up to 45 feet with no problems. The only thing that separates this campground from the ocean is a sand dune. We love staying at family run campground which is half the price of the two bigger campgrounds one block down the road. We camped at Ocean Waves Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here one week while taking day trips "up and down" the Outer Banks. Located on ocean side of the OBX (Outer Banks), this campground provides very good access to the beach. Sites are back-in and have concrete pads that are perpendicular to the paved roadways. Since sites are close together, some bigger fifth wheels have difficulty backing into sites. No problems for a Class A getting on to site. Rest rooms and showers are clean but dated. No camp fires are permitted and no rugs and mats are allowed on the grass. We camped at Ocean Waves Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a terrific park. We were situated half way between the ocean and the pool. The beach was amazing and was patrolled by ATV. Evening camp fire on the beach was an added bonus. The owners are very friendly and really care about their campground and clientele. We camped at Ocean Waves Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This was the perfect spot for us to stay for our time in The Outer Banks. We were basically here to sleep. We were out sightseeing the entire 4 nights here. The least expensive place to stay in the area. Our 43 foot motorhome did fit, but was snug. Wifi was good, satellite worked. Cable TV available if needed. Beach access here but we did not use it. I would return. We camped at Ocean Waves Campground in a Motorhome.

Very nice people extremely helpful we needed air for our tires and the owner went out of her way to help us, she suggested the Blue Whale Grocery Store and Shell station FREE Air with access for a Big Rig. We had a nice large shady site as almost all other sites are full sun. Cable TV was excellent, WIFI was good, great access to the beach and a nice pool, well stocked store. We are planning a return trip to the outer banks and will stay at Ocean Waves. We camped at Ocean Waves Campground in a Motorhome.

This is a much smaller park than their neighbors and lack some amenities but if you spend time around your campsite, traveling, and at the beach this place is better. Simple layout and enough space for most - the only possible problem is getting into your site as most tow vehicles are out front of campsites and can make the backing in a bit difficult but nothing crazy. Beach is a short walk and easy. We camped at Ocean Waves Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Oh my, what a lovely campground with easy access over the dune to the beach. We were there shortly after they opened, and there were about 15 other campers. It is a small campground, especially compared to the two behemoths down the road. There are some shade trees. The sites are paved with easy access to the utilities. The price quoted is the off-season "weekly" rate - pay for 6 nights, get the 7th free. The beach here is beautiful. We camped at Ocean Waves Campground in a Motorhome.

In fairness we arrived on the second day of the season, stayed for five days and saw no evidence that the bathrooms had been cleaned...perhaps staff was just getting geared up? The location right on the beach is very nice, great for long walks. I think the place fills up totally in peak vacation season, but in March it's quite empty, as is the whole of the Outer Banks. We had 3 rigs traveling together, and were glad we actually got sites together. The park is much smaller than the two down the road, but we were glad for the shelter of the trees that lined the park when the winds were blowing at 40 MPH one night. Bathrooms were bare bones with no outlets, towels, or hand soap. Sites were nicely spaced, with concrete pads. Other local area campers were very friendly. Lots of fishermen staying here. We would recommend this park. We camped at Ocean Waves Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This was the first time staying at Ocean Waves Campground and we enjoyed it very much. The sites are cement pads and worked well for our 32' 5th Wheel. As you would expect the sites are close together, but there was ample room to park the truck in front of the 5th Wheel without any crazy maneuvering. We had full hookup and everything worked well. The bathrooms must have been cleaned numerous times a day because with the beach and sand near by you would think they would get nasty, but they were clean every time I visited. The beach is just a sand dune hop away. The beach is large and the ocean is beautiful - what a dream! We enjoyed a beach fire a couple times during our stay - loved it (you can get the free permit at the campground office). The camp office / store has a small/good selection of last minute things. They also have a selection of rental movies- although we never got one. We wanted to stay an extra 4 nights and we found that the staff was very helpful with this. In the end we only got 2 nights due to a full campground. We look forward to returning!! We camped at Ocean Waves Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a very nice RV park, which is very family-friendly! Back-in spaces only, so big rigs have to work at getting into space. Looked like the only campground on Hatteras Island which had shaded spaces. Pool was very nice! Easy walk across dune to beach. We camped at Ocean Waves Campground in a Motorhome.

There is significant bridge construction on the 12 South of the 64. Be prepared for lengthy delays. Off season special buy six nights and get 7th night free. Total was $312 plus 6% tax or $47.25/night avg rate. Due to mechanical issues, we could only stay 5 nights. They were not obligated and did not issue a refund even though we referred a customer who stayed for one month. Reservation process was a bit of drama. We reserved during the winter when the CG is closed. We had to complete a form from their website and snail mail it after January 1st. The website explicitly says if you mail it before January 1st, they will ignore it. Upon arrival, check-in was courteous and efficient. We were given a choice of campsites which was nice. The sites can be tight to get into but it shouldn't take you 30 minutes to maneuver into. A neighbor might need to move a vehicle but everyone is very friendly. All hook-up's worked well. CG wifi was hit or miss. We had good Verizon cell, Sprint Mifi and DirecTV signals. The bath houses each have a very (very, very) bright exterior light. This disrupts star gazing and (in my opinion) it would be awful if one was shining in your window. I suggest they swap these bright lights for low amber-tone lights. The laundry room did not have enough machines for the park so it was awkward doing your laundry with others watching and waiting for you to finish. The office has an extensive DVD ($1/night rental fee) and book library. The beach is easy to access. However, the sand has tons (tons and tons) of broken shells. If you're barefoot, be careful not to cut your feet. There is always wind - sometimes a little and often times a lot. There's a reason the kite surfers love OBX. Ocean Waves is a good value for the location. If I returned to the area, I would certainly consider staying again. Overall, for me personally, OBX was nice to visit but I'm not interested to return. I didn't think it was that special or the beach was that pretty. We camped at Ocean Waves Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Orange Blossom is a MUST - famous for their Apply Ugly but the Cinnamon Roll is to die for. Check their hours before you go. Stop at Cape Hatteras Lighthouse to learn about the amazing engineering how it was moved completely intact. It's free to visit but a fee to climb it. Wright Bros Natl Monument is underwhelming but compulsory when in OBX. Take your Natl Park Pass. Try the calamari appetizer at Outer Banks Brewing.

Taking the area into consideration this is the best place to camp. Close to the beach in the upper area and clean and ample restrooms. Nice staff. Sites level and hook ups good. Sites very tight for big rigs and parking the truck was tricky. As long as everyone obeyed the rules and parked off of the already narrow road all was fine. Cozy little campsite located on the ocean in the Outer Banks. Friendly staff, excellent location, reasonably priced. The downside? My 52' rig (truck + fiver) was crammed into the smallest campsite imaginable. It was nearly impossible to get the rig situated, took over 30 minutes of back and forth jockeying and honestly was a joke. This place would easily be a 10 if the sites were roomier, especially in light of their beautiful beach. Unfortunately, I won't be back because of the tight site.
