We stayed at Sully Creek State Park based on the "Excellent" reviews. We registered and paid for 2 nights, but only made it through one night before we relocated. The ambiance of the park is just okay. No real enduring factors.

Issue 1: There is a sign posted when entering the park about driving slow due to the dust. This was certainly not obeyed. Issue 2: The site across from us ran their generator all night (I know this isn't necessarily the park's fault, but the host should enforce the rules). Issue 3: its a fairly rough road to get down into the park. Issue 4: you're basically setup in an open field with no shade (there are some shaded sites, but bigger rigs don't fit). Just wasn't our cup of tea so we relocated to an RV park in town. We camped at Sully Creek State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Definitely attend the Medora Musical. It was awesome. The pizza place downtown (can't remember the name, but it's next to the musical's ticket office) was excellent.

This park is usually the first night and last night of a several week trip to Montana and Wyoming. It is just the right distance from home for one hard day of driving.

I am there in the fall and at times there have been few or no other campers, other times the horse portion of the campground a bit busy.

It is quiet and away from interstate noise, will at times hear trains but along way off. Have your choice of open or in tree cover depending on preference and rig size. Place was well kept and clean, the park ranger very nice.

This is the type of quiet off the beaten path places I always try and find, hate crowed and overly commercial campgrounds. We camped at Sully Creek State Park in a Truck Camper.

$10 per night was for a primitive site on level gravel with a fire ring and picnic table. Additionally, we purchased the annual park permit for $20 for our RV and $20 for our tow vehicle. There were water spigots throughout the park as well as at the dump station. There were very nice pay shower stalls within the campground. If you like walking/hiking/biking/horse riding there are trails and roadways inside and outside the park. The southern entrance to the 120-mile Mah Daah Hey trail begins in the campground. The main campground loop is out in the open and any size RV will fit on the sites. The Muddy Breaks loop, which includes corrals, is devoted to campers with horses. The Cedar loop of the park is set up for camping units that are no higher than 10’ or wider than 9’. The last half mile drive into the campground is on a red dirt road which is quite dusty when dry and muddy when wet. The night sky is gorgeous, as are the sunsets. The campground is out in the country but only three miles from the town of Medora and the southern unit of the Theodore Roosevelt NP. There is some shopping in Medora and several good restaurants but prices seem a bit high. Cell phone service on AT&T is two bars of 4G. Verizon data coverage is was 4G LTE so we used our Millenicom Jetpack for Internet access. There was no over-the-air TV. We camped at Sully Creek State Park in a Motorhome.
