First COE park we've ever stayed at and we would definitely return. We had a spacious site with plenty of room between us and our nearest neighbor. Although we had an electric site, we weren't charged extra for it (we ended up not having to use the electric). It was a short overnight stay, but we availed ourselves of the showers. Very nice campground hosts. The check-in process was a bit different - you had to stand near the information board to make a call to secure and pay for your site. But all worked out well in the end. There also is a dump station. We camped at Mel Riemen Rec COE in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here in a travel trailer and the price reflects our golden age pass. The campground has pit toilets, did not find the showers but didn't need them. Site was not level but wasn't difficult to level the trailer. Friendly helpful campground hosts. Would stay here again. We camped at Mel Riemen Rec COE in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Very nice small campground primarily aimed at fisherman as it is adjacent to the reservoir. All the roads are paved and the sites are gravel with grass, a picnic table and a fire ring. Some have electric. Lots of trees and shrubs but not between all the sites, so you can see your neighbors. Our site was pretty level, but some looked less than level. Site number 2 would have a great view of the lake and the sunset.

Two pit toilets and two flush toilets with shower stalls. All were extremely clean, as was the dump station. Be aware that there was no way to pay cash when we were here after Labor Day. There was a cell phone hotspot so campers can call or go online at recreation.gov, but the service was not that good even at the hotspot. It is an Army Corp of Engineers facility and they honor the 50 percent national parks pass discount. We camped at Mel Riemen Rec COE in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

I should have read the reviews first - I chose a 54 foot long site for my truck and trailer (which are 46 feet total). The site may have been 54 feet long, but the pad stopped halfway back, so leveling was an issue. Moreover, I barely was able to get into the site because it was off of a very tight curve. It took about half an hour, and I was close to just leaving. All of the sites are like this, and the pull through sites are a very tight curve. This camp really isn't appropriate for anything over about 35 feet. Also, the GPS coordinates, and the notation for Mel Rieman CG are wrong both on the Army Corp website and google. There is a small sign where you turn off, but it is confusing, because the road branches and it isn't clear which is the main road and which is the branch. The correct GPS coordinates are 47.032427, -98.071123, and on google maps, it is labelled as "Baldhill Park." I interacted with an Army Corps officer and two individuals working in the park itself. None of them displayed much professionalism. They weren't rude, just appeared not very interested in their jobs. The park itself is pretty and quiet. Verizon signal weak. We camped at Mel Riemen Rec COE in a Travel Trailer.

This park is unsuitable for larger motorhomes. But you cannot tell that from the web site. We showed up with our motorhome, looked at the site, and left. There is no way we could have leveled our rig in the site. Plus getting our 42' motorhome into the site would have taken a shoe horn.

This would be fine for a 30' motorhome if you have lots of leveling blocks or you get one of the few level sites. We camped at Mel Riemen Rec COE in a Motorhome.

We used one of three pull through sites. One is in use by the campground host. The site was a very tight turn and we needed to use the grass to turn in our 35' rig and toad. The campground is 12 miles off of the interstate, however, it was peaceful and quiet. Cows and their calves greeted us in the morning from the pasture outside our windows. We will return here and investigate the rest of this campground. We camped at Mel Riemen Rec COE in a Motorhome.

We last reviewed this park two years ago, and it's improved since then. A proper dumping station is now available, along with a station with potable water for the rig. Our Tracfone did not work here, but the Verizon air card did. We raised six channels on the antenna. In two years, the price for 50% senior discount has risen to $11 from $8 for an electric-only site. We like this place and would stay again on our way through the area. Campsites are not especially long, and the main attraction here would be just a bit of hiking and fishing, and being alone. We camped at Mel Riemen Rec COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

The park has about 10 electric hookups, with at least one 50 amp site. No water or sewer hookups, clean vault privies, with showers available at visitor center in restrooms. There is an unmarked opening in top of the holding tank for the vault privies as a dump station; you have to know to drive on the grass to get to it; no flushing water available. Campground has a bizarre reservation/drive up system. Our site was "reserved out" from under us, even though we submitted payment in the self-pay box, and we had to move. Drive up folks, pay close attention to the directions. Sites were generally not level, but could be adjusted to level easily. Some sites were shallow; we saw two pull through sites. Price reflects a 50% discount for Senior Pass holders (age 62+), making this a very desirable place to stay in spite of the limitations. Also, the views are fantastic. We saw plenty of white pelicans just below the dam, and a huge 100 unit wind farm further up the lake. A lovely scenic byway starts at the dam and heads south for 62 miles. We'd stay here again, or at any of the other campgrounds run by the Corps of Engineers on the lake. We camped at Mel Riemen Rec COE in a Motorhome.

A North Dakota best kept secret: big rig pull-through sites, level, electricity, (about 10 sites) mostly sunny with view, large sites w/table and fire ring, near lake, COE (Corp of Engineers) site so Golden Age and (Am the Beautiful) pass is 1/2 price ($8). Restrooms-showers are immaculate as well as park grounds; boating, fishing, swim beach. No water or sewer at sites. Take I-94 Bus loop through Valley City, then about middle of town go north on 5th Ave NE, under the magnificent Hi-line RR Bridge (this is an all-round cool little town and area, with lots to see for a couple-three days), then fork to left on County Rd 19 (paved) for ~10 miles. Turn right into campground before Bald-hill dam. If Reimen is full, although its a gravel road, even a big rig could go through campground and East for ~3-4 miles and hit County Rd 21 to Eggerts Landing where there is about 40 camp sites. We camped at Mel Riemen Rec COE in a Motorhome.
