We were looking for a CG that would be convenient to the Folk on the Rocks music festival grounds on Long Lake and downtown Yellowknife. We're self-contained and don't use the facilities except for an occasional shower. We stayed a week in late July in our 8 metre (25 foot) MH. This is a very nice large CG located 2 km (1.5 mi) from the music festival and 4.5 km (3 mi) from downtown Yellowknife. It is clean and well maintained. The staff are helpful and friendly. There are over 100 sites in 4 main loops. The sites vary significantly in size and shape - some are quite long, some are wide and round, some have elevated tent platforms, some are tucked in between rocks (Canadian shield), some connect to others with common areas, some are surrounded by trees while others are open and others are near the beach. Loop D is relatively new with larger sites that are more open with smaller trees. Most are level gravel. There's a mix of electric only and unserviced sites. We were in site 21 on a road connecting loop A and C. It was long, level and shaded. The push button showers were clean with ample hot water and pressure. There's a dump station and potable water near the entrance. We made reservations for the music festival weekend anticipating the CG would be full (it was). There were several sites to choose from to extend our stay during the week. There was good ATT cell coverage while roaming on Bell and good Verizon coverage while roaming on Telus. The CG is located across Highway 3 from the Yellowknife airport. There is airport/road noise during the day. We heard airport noise only 1 night during the week. We camped at Fred Henne Territorial Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The Folk on the Rocks music festival in mid-July is great and alone worth the drive. The city of Yellowknife is fun with all services available - grocery, camp supplies, restaurants, etc. The Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre is a nice museum focused on the culture and history of the area. Highways 1 and 3 to Yellowknife are paved. The CG has a beach, playground and hiking trails.

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is conveniently located to the city of Yellowknife. I had a back in site which was at the end of a row of sites so that I had privacy on behind and to one side of the coach. It was near the end of the season so there were no other campers close by. I was located near the clubhouse and could get wi-fi in the coach although that supposedly wasn't possible outside the clubhouse. It is a beautiful, wooded park. The site was gravel and was long enough to park the tow car in front without sticking out into the road. Water and sewer were available near the exit. Would definitely camp here again. We camped at Fred Henne Territorial Park in a Motorhome.

If you're here in late August, early September be sure to drive out into the countryside to see the Aurora Borealis.

Clean, quiet, pretty park just outside the city of Yellowknife. Most sites are large enough to accommodate any size rig. Nice wooded level sites, most of them. I would definitely stay here again when in the area. We camped at Fred Henne Territorial Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Site was a level gravel back-in with 30 amp electric. It offered privacy as it was at the end of a string of campsites and surrounded by plenty of trees. A table and fire grate were at each site. Water fill and dump station were at the exit of the campground behind the office. One of the restroom/shower buildings had handicap access. Playground equipment and a beach at Long Lake close by. For hikers there is a 4 KM trail. We camped at Fred Henne Territorial Park in a Motorhome.

Great hiking trail in the campground. We were able to fill water tanks and dump in camp. Other territory parks have WiFi, but this one does not. Friendly helpful staff. The day use people drive through with their boats at a fast speed. Not many choices in this part of the country, but overall a nice park. We camped at Fred Henne Territorial Park in a Motorhome.

Clean park, Showers and restrooms very clean. About 1.5km to city services. Wi-Fi available only in hotel/motel complexes. Staff were helpful in both camp and for tourism related info. Sandy beach on Long Lake, boat launch, handicap access toilets/showers, sani-dump. We camped at Fred Henne Territorial Park in a Truck Camper.
